Hi! A suggestion: using video examples from elite matches is really great, but I feel we are missing something by not having you demonstrate and explain yourselves the way a private coach would a student. There are lots of details that you mention verbally but don’t really show how to put them together one by one. As an example of what I mean: when you say that all those small movements happen very fast one after another, you could demonstrate the individual parts: seeing a full shot, even in slow motion, can make it a bit difficult to understand everything that’s going on. Since it’s the two of you, you have one pretend to be a beginner for a moment and the other correct their form for example (“here Greg’s elbow is too low, let me push it up”, etc.). Not sure if that makes sense?

I think this technique is not for beginer, you're at least 1 or 2 year-played and training, have solid basic techniques, then you can follow this video by yourself or helping from a coach or a better player near you.

yeah your right, if it would be that way then the video is fit for beginners. Their videos are mostly focused for intermediate players. But a lot of beginners also watch their video. In a case, beginners should watch basic badminton rules/specifics/techniques and other stuff related to amateur badminton which their channel had posted. This video is specifically for intermediate players who can play out the shot. In any case, Before beginners watch this video. They should learn basic things such as rotations and positioning, this video is fit for me an intermediate player. But im not saying you are wrong tho, you are absolutely right in a way

It works the best for me to jump the distance and not so much the height. It's meant to be used quickly (see first minutes in the video) to stay in front of the shuttle with a flat return. Train to jump the distance and keep your core and feet straight. Follow the shuttle with your feet, not your arms (don't bend your back). The height comes with lot's of strength training. Speed is key here. It's better to do a softer smash and stay in balance than do a hard one and not being able to keep playing because you got out of balance (see end of the video).

Really great tutorial, the body movement to generate the power definitely is the trickiest part for me. It is definitely satisfying seeing you all perform this shot so effortlessly 🚀.
@crazybeebob

the power generating indeed makes it a more advanced shot. But being able to give a quick (sometimes slower) return is satisfying.

Another great video guys. I never really attempted jump smashes myself because I had trouble generating power. My regular standing smashes were always harder for some reason. By the way, can you guys do a video focusing on reducing/preventing knee problems? Several people I know are struggling with that. Seems to be a very common injury!

Thanks Greg and Jenny for this amazing tutorial and those helpful tips ! By watching your video, I just figured out was my biggest flaw with this shot : I use to hit the shuttle to close to my body. I should try to hit it when its like 30cm away of my body and not when its above my shoulder. That way I should be able to hit the shuttle earlier and could rotate my torso better. 🚀🚀 See you next Sunday ! Cheers ❤️

Very nice video. It breaks down all the large "steps" but like Romain G below has mentioned already. It needs more detail demonstration in the small steps. Like you said in the video, the small details are the difference in a great jump out smash vs an OK jump out smash.

@@BadmintonInsight Time stamp 2:16 noted the right foot is pointing out to the right, not towards the net. This will get more stability and reduce the risk of injury when landed (like rolling your right ankle). Time stamp 3:34 do you point your feet forward to the net when weight lifting? I was told to point my feet like a "V". Maybe how to find or identify shoe that has a firmer abkle support. Time stamp 5:34 small movement. Too much follow through on a jump out smash will smash a shuttle into the net. Do you want to distinguish the difference between a jump out smash vs a jump out drive? I hope you understand what I am trying to explain.
