it's a good rundown. i would also include the chinese jump smash. it's neither a stick smash nor a jump-out smash because your body is turned in preparation but you don't rotate your hips. we saw this one a lot from lin dan and also LCW, and it is used by a lot of players now. also any of these smashes may include some degree of forward or reverse slice, and of course power variations. the trick is to not only master it all technically, which takes a lot of work, but also to develop awareness and tactical skill so you intuitively know how to craft your attack for the situation, which takes even more work

Hello Greg & Jen, Thanks for this video it has really helped me a lot. If i may ask, I have a question about recovery from injury. I have injure my lower back (piriformis muscle which is affecting sciatica nerve) . I have been in this pain for months , I have been in limited movements due to this injury. Have you or any other athletes had this issue due to overstretching while hitting a smash or taking a hit by stretching yourself to an arching lower back position to the back of the court? have you had a similar injury and what therapy worked best for you? I will appreciate it if you could share some light on this topic.

Hi Greg and Jenny! Just a question, When you do a jump smash, is it important to raise your non racket hand in the air and the legs be bent like a 90degree angle?
@BadmintonInsight Жыл бұрын
Non-racket hand up = yes definitely! This helps your timing, balance and rotation. For the legs to be bent to a 90 degree, no this isn’t important! But some players do it when they get a loooot of height on their jump and it helps them to really stretch out their chest!

Hitting a smash is also a bit like throwing a punch from another perspective. When you are getting ready to punch, you keep your hands relaxed and loose and only clench your fist ideally at the moment of impact. Likewise, you should tighten your fingers around the racquet only at the moment it hits the shuttle or just before.

How would I know if my smash is powerful? What should I focus on ? The feel, the sound, the inability of my opponents to intercept with their racquet ??
@zzzkyosuke Жыл бұрын
You will know it when you have a good rotation on your body you feel it in your core like you feel a hard something in your body
@ovtroll1199 Жыл бұрын
you would know if you hit a clean powerful smash, the feeling even for pros and us club players would recognise immediately if its a clean powerful smash. you should focus on timing of your smash more than adding strength. i think the misconception of just swing faster or get bigger muscle is the way to power, although yes it does affect it but timing is by far more important, from my experience even timing any shot from the back of the court creates more power and in some cases accuracy. if you hit a powerful smash and a person was able to return it then im sure 99% of the time they didnt realise they returned it. i used to hit slice smashes a couple years ago without realising but that was due to me being a little ignorant with my positioning so i end up slicing a smash unconsciously than put in a powerful smash
@streetninja23 Жыл бұрын
@@ovtroll1199 My smashes are pretty standard. Nothing extraordinary nor weak/flat. But sometimes it goes like a rocket @ such an angle which surprises both the opponent & myself if it travelled through the net ‼️ And I really don't know how to replicate the same.. because there was nothing special about it till the moment it left my racquet.
