There are actually 3 types of dives. In addition to the ones you mention, half dive and full superman dive, don't forget the pseudo dive aka trip. When executed properly the racket is often tossed into the air in a dramatic fashion followed by hands, knees and hips impacting the court in a rhythmic fashion. This is seen frequently at the amateur level and while playing drunk. Good times :) 🤣

I dive about quite a bit and I'm pretty old now haha, It really is something that you do instinctively and some people just do it. There is one other guy at my club that dives about too but no one else seems to. If I could say a few points on this, the crash mat was good for initial practice and getting used to it safely. However, I would definitely recommend a thinner pad (like a think mat they have at the gym, not a yoga mat lol) as you still have a lot of height to that dive and that could put you at risk. When you go for that dive shot your racket will be in a low position, as your arm stretches out your body wants to follow it. Best I can describe a safe feeling for this would be deep lunge forward as if getting to a low net shot, but then sort of fall/pounce forwards from there onto the lower mat previously mentioned as that will feel similar to a safe height. Then you can work out what position feels safest to land for you when your try a dive. I hope that helps, oh and also, wear jogging bottoms or knee pads/supports to avoid friction burns as they suck. As always thanks for the fun videos ;-)

Good video, not a topic that's really been covered before. I would say some specifics about what to do with your racket and hand would be helpful. I notice the racket face tends to hit the floor after the shot, whilst singles players tend to use the butt of the racket grip to land sometimes, and maybe helps them push back up faster like a lever Also I've definitely really hurt my knuckles by landing with my body weight pretty much entirely on my knuckles whilst gripping the racket, ouch. Also I tend to clip the outside bony bit of my knee which doesn't feel nice at all! Diving is a dangerous habit to get into in my limited experience 😜 the people who should be diving (ie. Light, flexible and nimble) probably already are diving. Please don't try it without practice..maybe Jenny is right after all! Curious as to whether any coaches ever encourage or practice this or not?

I'm known in my club as a diver. I dive because I'm out of position after playing my shot. One dive that I do, that you didn't cover is a roling dive. I think somewhere between a half dive and a full dive. On a forward dive on the forehabd side, instead of landing flat, you roll so you land on your back/shoulder. Your momentum rolls you over your back ointo your feet.
@crazybeebob2 жыл бұрын
Hi. I think a roll might be slower or disorientating. But if you do it you need to scream "Rolling Thunder" (like in Haikyuu, look it up). We're not all 16 years old, so rolling is out of the question for me :P

Great video and love the human aspect of this one. Sometimes with your video's you make things look so easy and it's hard to relate to what you are saying but this one was super relatable. If you do read this, in terms of suggestions for future videos would love to see one about how to play badminton with your partner (i.e. wife gf etc). I don't know if it's a common thing but in my club basically everyone refuses to pair with their partners as we all feel like we play worse and want to rip eachothers heads off. Haha.

I can confirm that too date, and for the foreseeable future it will be very unlikely that anyone would dare put their life on the line and give couples advice when playing together. 🤣😂. @crazybeebob2 жыл бұрын
If he does it so often it might give his opponent the advantage since most returns from a dive will be the same. So his shots might get predictable. And all this jumping around is very tiring. I would play this on purpose to wear him out so I could more easily finish the point on the next shot. It's good for a save, but nothing beats fast footwork.
@hoangle80302 жыл бұрын
I love your channel, but as someone who just successfully learned to dive all by watching youtube channel, I have some to share about my journey. As a single player, diving is necessary. I will break down in few steps. Step 1: When to dive ? For single player, The smash is too fast and at high level it'll be out of reach. So, the only option is to dive. It's a mental prep. You know you will get a smash. Just ready to dive, even when it's not touching the line. Step 2: Hit the shuttle ! => the goal is to "reach" the shuttle then fall. NOT using your legs to push. Pushing with legs is the source of injury because you created force on the dive. Step 3: Do NOT jump. It's a fall. Step 4: The force you generate on the dive must have parallel momentum with the floor, any other direction will cause injury. Step 5: Dissipating the landing force! => After you touched the shuttle, do your best to create a lot of contact to the floor (your racket, your hands, your knees, and your chest) so when you landed, you SLIDE. One crucial point I see from your video is that when both of you landed, your elbows are straight. This is a no no. Bend your elbows, so the impact force goes to your muscles instead of your joints. Step 6: There are many way to dive and recover. The key is to dissipating force on landing. After few practice, I'd able to dive at ease and whenever I feel like it. There's no more fear of injury. I've learned it and I hope for others. Great video !
@quadskatesandcars2 жыл бұрын
How good was that😁 For me, half diver yes, full....no and for the very reasons Jenny pointed out. The addition to this is seeing the real worry on Jenny's face which is pretty much what most of us would be like. Again great personal connection with us all.👍

Can you make a video about determining wether a ball is out or in because I am taking a lot of out . And also this is a good video
@stevemawer848 Жыл бұрын
You need to improve your peripheral vision so you can take in more of your surroundings as you move around the court. Watch the shuttle but be aware of a wider angle of view. If you're playing doubles, get your partner to call if they see the shuttle is going out - a simple "yes" (hit it!) or "no" (leave it!) is all it takes. The worse one I've heard is "watch" which basically means they have no idea, so it's up to you, so it's actually pointless calling anything. If someone says "watch" to me, I just watch the shuttle onto the floor until they get the message and shut up!

Is it ok to use more lbs than the given tension?
