In merhaba I think the word you were looking for was a silent H. So you don't speak the H at all. English has a lot of those. I really enjoy Turkish. It is very systematic and fun to learn!!

The h in merhaba is not silent, it becomes silent in daily speech or if you are from thrace region of turkey (like me) where we don't pronounce h's most of the time (it's something specificly people of this region do). In a formal setting you should say merhaba with r and h clearly pronounced. In a less formal setting, let's say with your friends or acquintances, you can say it without h. Same kind of rule with "naber" (hi/how are you doing). Normally it is "ne haber" but we don't say ne haber and shorten it to n'aber. You can use n'aber in very informal settings to ask how someone is doing and the formal version would be "nasılsın". But just go with merhaba and nasılsın/nasılsınız most of the time and you should be fine.

*here's some "real" phrases for you:* 'ayırlısı be gülüm (literally means we'll see my rose but you can use this phrase to anyone in the meaning of "i dunno we'll see") note: it's actually hayırlısı but it sounds cooler without an h yuvarlanıp gidiyoruz (literally means we keep going while we're rolling but it means "well the life is not that bad I'm living anyways") çünkü neden olmasın? (because why not) n'apıyorsun? n'apçam.. (literally means "what are you doing" "what will I do" but this answer means that you're not doing anything special)

Great video. I moved to Istanbul 4 days ago and I have found the language very difficult, making it even harder to meet people. A lot of people here have been very patient with me as I have tried to pronounce words instead of just using the phone screen. I hope that I can pick up the language a little easier soon as it is making it impossible to have conversations. Thank you for some great phrases!
