Harps, the voice of angels. I'm 90 and not a musician but am so blessed listening to Christy-Lyn and Carrie. I listen to the 3 hours of Christmas music by Christy-Lyn every day (6 months now). Such a blessing to everyone. Thank you, thank you. Noel in Vancouver Washington, USA

How long does it take to learn, let’s say a mid intermediate piece?

A lot depends on your practice time. Also do you know how to read music? There are basic skills that you would pick up with beginner pieces going into intermediate, such as hand placement, fingering, arpeggios, Left hand chords, 2 notes, 3 notes, 5 notes, etc. I’m a musician and it took me a few months before I began working on early intermediate songs. And every harpist arranging songs has a sliding scale on what would be considered early intermediate. Carrie and Christy-Lyn do a good job at placing music on those scales. Someone like Anne Crosby Gaudet, focuses all of her music on specific skills to learn and places them that way. In Christy-Lyn’s teaching courses you can either purchase music to go along with the course or learn by ear, but it can be difficult to remember songs well once your repertoire builds. If you don’t read music I recommend taking their music fluency course. It is excellent for learning to read music. I was playing flute semi-professionally prior to learning harp. I grew up playing clarinet, as well as singing. So I had a good music background. But I could not read bass clef. I never needed to learn it. That took me a bit of time. Now I am 3.5 years in and take private lessons as well as I have been in her program since the beginning. I play mid intermediate fluently, and work more on late intermediate. I am not yet to advanced pieces. I could be, if I focused solely on one piece of music until fluent. But I like to work on 4-5 pieces at a time. I get bored easily. The song What a Wonderful World (the last song in this video) is a late intermediate piece. The chords are complex and there are lots of lever changes, 31 I believe. That is a lot. So for me I would say that it is at the high end of late intermediate. It is a difficult song. Everyone learns at a different pace. And if you are a senior, then I hate to say it but we don’t tend to learn as quickly as someone who is young. Go listen to “Miriam’s Music Room” channel here on KZbin. She is 12 now I believe. She is in Christy-Lyn’s group and also takes private lessons from Carol Kappus. She is an excellent example of how quickly a young girl learns. You can see her first videos, and where she is at now. She is at my level and now even a bit beyond me. We began at the same time. Or about. But it is about the process. I was impatient! Sorry this is so long!😊

Thank you for taking the time to respond! Yes, I have several years of musical backround, but like you, i wasn’t familiar with the base clef when i first started playing the harp. I’ve been playing for 2 years now, but I would like to have some referense on how long people spend on each piece in generall . You know, to know if I am playing too difficult or perhaps too easy music. It usually takes me a week or so to ”perfect” a piece, do you think that is normal?
