Very nicely done! Your videos will help so many players with the steep learning curve. I've played IL-2 right back to the original sim, and I learned a few things from your video too. Bravo!

Cheers Francis! That's been my goal with my RoF series and carried forward into this BoS series. The easier the learning curve can be for people the better because it's the only way we can get the genre to grow. I want to be able to show that simming isn't as difficult as it may appear. Thanks for subscribing!

I agree wholeheartedly. Back in the heyday of Hyperlobby there were somewhere in the neighborhood of ten thousand players playing FB/1946. With luck, and with work like yours, hopefully this new game will draw many times more players than that. I want this game to last, and grow. Someday I hope to have dozens and dozens of plugin planes for this sim spanning every theatre of the war, and for that to happen we need lots of returning customers. Your vids will help keep new players from feeling frustrated and alienated by the complexity we all love in IL-2. I will share them with noobs whenever I get the chance :)

So glad I have found your excellent tutorials - just what I need to help me get started with my newly acquired BoS. I find it too difficult to remember keyboard commands especially when switching between different games and planes but a touchscreen and custom made Helios profiles makes things much more convenient. After watching all your 'Aircraft Familiarisation' videos's, I hope to compile a list of essential keyboard commands so that I can then create a 'generic' helios profile. Maybe someone has already created such a list and would be willing to share??

Cheers Aldo, it's nice to see familiar names from RoF in the BoS community, so it's even better that you are making videos for it as well. I've gone with this new style to these to make them look a bit more slick than my previous series and its been well received. The funny thing is I still get subscribers to my old channel, so I'll probably have to upload an example video there showing what is happening in the new channel to get the word out a bit more. ~S~

IL-2 Tutorials by Requiem Requiem, I could use some pointers/Schooling on embedding KZbin Videos on the IL-2 BOS Forums...tried their "help/support" but I'm afraid their is a language gap. I can only seem to post links but not have the video window appear in the BOS Forum posts (for me). s/f Aldo

All you need to do is use the youtube link of your video and paste it into a post. There is no need for any embedding codes or anything special like that. I get the links by clicking on the youtube "video manager" then click on the video I want so it loads, and then copy that link in the address bar and paste it into a BoS forum post. Presto :)

Excellent videoes Requiem. Keep up the good work! However, I have a request if you're up for it. There are a few more performance parameters that I would like to see in your video. Along with airspeed at different altitudes, climb rate etc., that you're allready including at the beginning of the video, it would be awesome if you included corner velocity, roll rate and turn rate degr/sec (at corner velocity). If you (or anyone else for that matter) have any info regarding those parameters for both the Bf 109 F-4 and the LaGG-3 series I'd be interested in hearing about it.
@RequiemsACTL
@RequiemsACTL 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks Baardeh :-) Unfortunately I don't know those numbers,as I don't really worry about knowing them precisely, plus I don't have spare time to spend testing and figuring them out for each aircraft. I have my hands full, but at some point someone will figure them out, so then I'll add an annotation in that section of video to include them.

I didn't use an external free camera since it isn't enabled yet, so I picked the external view of a vehicle then moved into position. After that I moved the view using the SHIFT key and the mouse so the truck was no longer in view, and that gave me that stable camera view :-)

Pretty cool. Im nothing like that to take off. Suppose to lock the rudder in BF109? Is that how they are in real life? BF109 only plane like this during take off (rudder right)?
@RequiemsACTL
@RequiemsACTL 3 жыл бұрын
You can't lock the rudder, but you do lock the tailwheel once you're lined up straight on the runway. Keeping the tailwheel unlocked will help during taxiing. This is a general rule you can apply to any aircraft which has a lockable tailwheel, but some airplanes don't have this feature.

Huge thanks for your tutorials - I'm still at the "pretty much grounded" stage of trying to PLAY this game, but I'm getting there. Just got Track IR and now I need to re-do my keybinds (they didn't really work well before for me anyways lol). I was wondering, what settings do you have for your pitch/roll/rudder sensitivities and deadzones? Is that information out there somewhere? I'd like to mirror what you're working with until I feel comfortable tweaking it - googling has left me with many different answers styles, but I figured going with the tutorial hero's personal settings is a good place to begin.

Yeah they are automatic generally, but if you switch to manual mode the two vents underneath each wing near the wing root will open/close when you give the commands.

thanks I love your vids! Have another subscriber :) I have a couple of questions: How do you get the aircraft to start the mission under the camo net like that? And what's the difference between the F4 and G2? I prefer the F4's cockpit because it has more visibility but the engine seems very prone to exploding in the F4....
@RequiemsACTL
@RequiemsACTL 10 жыл бұрын
Starting under the camo net was part of the single player missions they made available for a little while. They aren't available at the moment though...F4 vs G2 simply put: Cockpit visibility and an engine with less maximum power. 1.3 ata is max in the G-2, and 1.4 ata in the F-4. Keep the manifold pressure below 1.4 ata in the F-4 unless its an emergency, you can fly with 1.3 ata all day though.Thanks for your input and subscribing!

Callum Jerwood A long time ago the devs put out single player missions with certain aircraft, which is what you see here, but they have removed them for some time now because they need to be changed with each patch. I imagine they will be back when BoS is fully released.

It would be very nice if you could make a tutorial on engine management for the German planes in this game. Whenever I fly the BFs or the JU my engine always ends up quitting on me and spitting oil on the windscreen. With the JU I think it has something to do with using 100% throttle too much so now I fly at 85% to 90% but it still happens. It also happens in the BFs even though the radiator and mixture is supposed to be auto. Anyways I'm a newb in BoS but I could use the info to figure it out.

+Alexandre Radburn You have to watch your RPMs. Keep them below 2400. 2000-2200 for cruise. Get your ata around 1.0 - 1.5 for normal flight (i think that is usually about 50-60% throttle). Anything higher runs serious risk to your engine. If you have auto prop pitch on you only have to control the throttle to do this.
@rawnukles
@rawnukles 10 жыл бұрын
Just so you know the F4 in the sim climbs to 6k in just under 5mins. Maybe its the extra power from the cold/ air density. The G2 however using the derated engine loses what it gains and ends up still performing about the same... 6k in just over 5mins as you G2 tutorial says.

i just can't keep the damn plane straight on the runway , it turns left as soon as it starts moving, i try to use right wheel breaks , at low speed it stops, otherwise it keeps turning left and i take off from the fields :) , i don't know how to control the damn thing . Heavy stuff like He111 i can keep straight but these damn fighters no :(
@RequiemsACTL
@RequiemsACTL 10 жыл бұрын
This may sound silly Adi, but tap your brakes and look down to double check that the toe brake control isn't activating both toe brakes at once instead of just the left or the right. The 109 isn't the worst to keep straight on takeoff. If you still have a lot of trouble you could try applying full right rudder before you increase power. Then you can decrease the rudder input as needed to keep straight as you speed up.
@proautoscan
@proautoscan 10 жыл бұрын
The Air Combat Tutorial Library Thanks for your reply, i watched the brake pedals and they are working fine, i just can't seem to understand what is going on . For example, i cannot taxi the plane except towards left, the left wheel helps steering left but the right one has no effect except for stopping the plane all together at lower speeds , you may be right , it;s like the right brake blocks both wheels but it seems to work fine from inside the plane :(.He111 is fine, i can keep it under control but Stuka and 109 (the worst of all) just start moving directly left and i cannot control them . In your video, did you used anything else except right wheel brake to keep the 109 straight ? BTW : i can taxi the He111 both left and right without any problems
@RequiemsACTL
@RequiemsACTL 10 жыл бұрын
Adi Prodi Something is weird because the 109 shouldn't be giving you that much of a problem on takeoff. I believe I saw you post a thread in the BoS forum as well, so I want you to do something there. Try and takeoff again, but record the track and upload it to your thread so I can look at it. Press CTRL+R in-game then try and takeoff. Finish the mission, go to records, and rename your track. Then find it in the C:\Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\Tracks, zip up the folder with the name AND a .trk file with the same name and submit it in your thread. I'll download it and have a look at what you're doing from your perspective to see what you're doing wrong or if its a controls problem.
