The best advice I can give is to just wear them, wear until you start feeling it natural with it. Stand up and do little steps by step while holding on, do the exercise shown in this video. Take a break and sit, then go back. Do this until it start feeling natural, you’ll start getting good results. Don’t rush, just know that this will be something that will take days.

I'm getting back into inline skating after 20 years and I'd always use wrist guards..they saved me from shattering my wrists many times in the past. First instinct when you fall is to put your hands out, the guards absorb and redistribute the force going into your wrists... Excellent video.

@@SASPayne1D that's the point 😊 when the wrist skid, although it might make you hit with elbows etc they prevent the wrist catching which is what usually makes it fracture. just like mc gloves are designed for us bikers. you want to skid along because the slower you stop, granted your kit is good enough to not rip off the less blunt force trauma you get.

Just a suggestion on wrist guards: Absolutely get them. I was an avid rollerblader in the VERY early days of its resurgence in the very early 90s. We did handrails, big steps, halfpipe and bowls and just a whole lot of random stuff. You have wheels on your feet. This is fine for when you fall forward. But when you are just starting to learn, you are not only learning to skate but you are also learning to fall. And one of the most dangerous and extremely common mistakes is falling backwards. Your will automatically throw out your hands and try to stop your fall, arms straight and essentially take your whole body weight + momentum force on your wrists. They will break. This is the most common 'serious' injury that I have witnessed, repeatedly. From beginners to experts.

Great video!! It was a great help for my 4 teenagers!! They followed all your recommendations and were skating in no time. However, I would still recommend using the wrist guards... I purchased all the safety equipment, however, they all removed the wrist guard as you mentioned it gives zero wrist mobility... After 1 hour, my youngest (14) felt on her wrist and ended up with a fracture and a cast for 3 weeks! Ouch!

Glad I could help! Sorry for the injury though- get well soon! Yeah wrists guards really still have me undecided; I guess it’s also because I’m from a hockey background and you can’t hold a stick if you use them.

I just got my skates yesterday and I just laced this so this is a huge help! I'm working on carpet right now cause I just got my protective gear but I feel like I should work on building a better foundation before I go outside. I'm gonna work on all these things beforehand because I have no foundation at all.

For anyone wondering about wrist guards. His hypothesis about it forcing other types of injuries is correct, as I fell backwards as a kid with these on and they caused a double fracture in my forearm at the end of the wrist guard. I recommend going with protective gloves to help with falls :)
@elementalgolem54982 жыл бұрын
as a biker (mc) I can tell you right now the wrist guards are a god send. they might not be exactly like a mc set of gloves. but the premice is the same, you want the plastic protector to skid along the asphalt completely preventing road rash, and a very common fracture forc accide TS where the skin simply catches on the ashphalt, grips too much and twists your wrist 180 degrees the wrong way. a stiff one also helps prevent that fracture

@@MarcelsHockeySchool btw how long do you recommend these to do these drills for? I’ve just started and I have about 20-30 to spend on skates every other day
@MarcelsHockeySchool6 ай бұрын
@@MohamedMahmoud Honestly with these drills try to progress through them as quickly as possible. Once you feel comfortable with them you don’t really need them anymore. I have the next progression of drills here for you. You could chose 2-3 of them that you like and work on them for about 10 minutes each. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppy9fphnjZJ0rZIsi=1JvOUgNbFdViAK9t
