I beat you! I'm 72. I had two old violins that my Dad owned and played. I took one in to be refurbished and re-strung. It had not been out of its case for about 50 years! I don't think I'll be playing in an orchestra, but I'd be happy learning simple tunes. One thing the man in the violin shop told me was to NOT touch the horsehairs on the bow -- it might pick up oil from your fingers.

After having cancer 4 times in 2 years, and twice being given 6 months to live, I retired so I could enjoy what time I had left (that was 2018-2020). I am now in remission, and feeling reasonably well so decided to take up a new hobby. I have been playing piano since the 1960’s, so I already have extensive musical knowledge, but always fancied violin. Before this week I had never even touched one! It took me 2 days to be able to hold it correctly. (I have small and slopey shoulders so I now have a shoulder rest. As I am on benefits there is no way I can afford lessons, so thank you so much for doing these! You are doing it at a sensible speed too, but not in a patronising way. I am so looking forward to being able to play a few tunes. Thank you

I'm nearly 78 and just bought my first violin. But music runs in me and my family. My cousin Reba Nell used to sing with Elvis before he hit the big times. On Saturday nights back in the early 50's Elvis would come down to Little Rock to a musical get together they held at the Robinson Auditorium. My cousin Reba (who was older than me and drop dead gorgeous!) and Elvis would sing duets on stage. My great uncle Ray Winkler owned radio stations across Texas and Arkansas. As a result he rubbed elbows with many country artists. One of these was "Gentleman Jim Reeves" of country music fame. Uncle Ray Co - wrote the country hit "Welcome to my World" with Gentleman Jim. He also wrote over a hundred others some of which made modest hits across the South. I've been wanting to play the violin forever but am just getting around to it even though I've played harmonicas all my life. As a boy there was a younger kid, friend of my kid brother, that lived down the street from us on the outskirts of Little Rock. His older brothers loved music and even though they were dirt poor, had many friends in the rock/country music genres. Guys like Roy Orbison would swing by to jam with them every so often. The kid's name was Richard Shook who went on to form the group "The Merging Traffic" and sing the one hit wonder "Bit by Bit". Well guys I've overstayed my welcome but look forward to sawing away at my soon to arrive violin! Carry on dudes and dudettes! 👍😎👍

I am left handed, so I am literally just going to hold a right handed violin upside down and place it on my right shoulder. 40 years ago when I learnt the guitar, I just turned it upside down and started playin it straight away, so I thought, I will do the same with a violin and just see how I go. I will keep you posted.

Hello I found your channel today and decided I'm going to go through the 30 day course. I am in the process of taking a violin I've had for over 20 years into a fellow to put new strings on it and hair on the bow. I don't know how to play it but I've wanted for as long as I've had it. It's a German violin and has a French bow which I'm told is one I shouldn't let kids play with. lol I've rented a violin a couple of times over the last 10 years but I'm not a note reader and have no desire to learn. I learned the guitar when I was young most by ear but started with a few basic cords. My dad used to play guitar at home all the time and I've always been wanting to play music especially the violin and piano. So wish me luck I just subscribed and hope we can all walk away proud to be able to play this instrument with a smile.😉

Greetings from Ukraine! Have just saw your video, everythig is so amazing! I'm a piano tech and music composer, song writer and multy-instrument player, love music and singing. I's my childhood dream to play violin, so I've started to learn about 19 months ago and arter while from my start i've heaard about Suzuki method, mut I had never try that. Thank you so much for such a great explanation. It's a brilliant videos to me and I'll practice in just a way you showed here. My first 3/4 violin was gived to me since I've started to learn. After a year or something I got another 3/4 violin with better sound. But it became broken at violin neck and the violin itself doesn't feets all the measurements, so it's immpossible to use it. :( It's war in Ukraine and me with my family had to move to other town for about 9 months ago. I'm searching daily for any order of composing and producing music and I understand that I have no budget to just buy a nice sounding violin. I'm not sure the one I have can be fixed or repaired. But I would love to practice a lot and then (when I will learn to play vibratto) to use the violin in my music compositions. If you or anyone you know have any violin (3/4 or 4/4) and doesn't need it, can that be possible to ship it to Ukraine? I would love to buy a good one, but we are struggeling to survive here and the violin music helping me to take my attention of the war and the news and to find some peace to my soul. Please let me know if you are interrested. There's some music on my channel, please welcome to watch. Thank you so much for taking your time to read my comment. Kind regards...

You are an amazing teacher! Thank you so much for these wonderful videos! It is a blessing beyond measure! I’ve always loved the violin but never played it before but would dream of pouring my heart cry out through the strings of this wonderful instrument! You give me such confidence and I’ve only started on your first lesson for beginners! I am 32 and am finally fulfilling my dream! And it’s even more possible because of your wonderful teachings! Thank you so very much!

Thank you for the video. Regarding tuning, what do you consider way out of tune? A semitone? Whole tone? So I can know to use the top knob or the bottom. Thank you in advance

Hi Justin, for any out of tune note more than a tiny bit out of tune you can use the pegs. Provided that these are easy to operate, which is not always the case. Fine tuners are literally that: to fine tune the notes and no more than that.
