Thank you, Ira. In English we too debate the names of the meals. Breakfast: upon waking or the first meal of the day and we have breakfast although one can say we breakfasted. Brunch: a meal taken before but close to lunchtime. Lunch: a meal at mid-day (whenever that is for each person relative to his/her schedule) and we can say we had lunch or we lunched but it's more common to use to have lunch. Lunch is also called dinner and people argue about whether or not dinner is at mid-day or if it is in the evening between 5 and 7 pm. Tea is a snack or light meal in mid to late afternoon and we might say either let's have tea implying a beverage and a light meal/snack. Dinner and supper are used interchangeably. Although some would argue that supper is a late meal after 8pm. English is so flexible at times and meals are no exception. Dessert is десерт. As usual in English we have many words for everything because we borrow freely from every language and retain vocabulary from languages imposed by conquerors. And then we discuss how best to use those words. It's more fun when the topic is one of mynfavorites: FOOD! Thanks again. Дуже дякую!

For many, Tea is still tea even when it is the main meal of the day in the evening. Lunch is a very middle-class word especially when used with 'take' rather than 'have'. Afternoon tea even more so. Dinner is the main meal of the day when it is in the middle of the day. Confusingly, the French use 'diner' for an evening meal which is the main meal of the day. I don't know whether English dinner or French diner came first, perhaps somebody on here knows.
