I know right. I thought that was very smart, wise, and cool also. You have yourself a blessed and prosperous day/weekend, and the remainder of the year, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Amen and Amen and Amen and Amen and Amen and Amen. Choose to know, trust, and believe for yourself that GOD is true, real, alive, and well. And know, trust, and believe that GOD truly do love you and so do I.

I have started looking into asl videos recently.. If u can add why the sign is so, it will be easier to remember for the one who is learning so late.. Like blue is hand alphabet b and 2 flicks Similarly yellow Black is almost like showing black eyebrow.. Something like this guide points as subtitles.. so that it's easier to grasp.. Thank you.
@Sharonneke.h
@Sharonneke.h Жыл бұрын
On the one hand I agree with subtitles. On the other hand, you now have to actually pay attention to the signing and have to learn to understand. That's similar to how spoken languages are best picked up when you get dropped in a country where they speak that language. It will be very awkward at first, but it is the best way to learn, usually

I'm glad I watched this video, the textbook for community collage class does NOT illustrate this well at ALL! They show arrows for the direction but it doesn't show what to do afterwards OR facial expressions to go along with 🤦‍♀️ Red illustration just shows the guy pulling index finger from his lip but does NOT even indicate the extra curling motion required afterwards. Yellow illustration is held downwards near the naval and arrow directs to sweep it to the right while wiggling.... 🙄 SERIOUSLY glad I'm watching ASL videos as I'm going along!

Hi, are you fluent in ASL? Also, how long did it take you to learn it?
@ASLMeredith
@ASLMeredith 7 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes, I am fluent in ASL. It takes many years, and ideally immersion! Personally, I grew up studying the vocabulary, took 4 semesters of collegiate courses, a full semester as a student at Gallaudet University (University for the Deaf in DC), and additional courses thereafter and an MA in teaching it. So it takes a lot :) but the best way to become skilled is through classes and (importantly) through interaction with native signers. Hope that helps!

It isn't easy to learn how to sign the colors in American Sign Language these days. It takes a lot of practice and patience to master the correct way to sign them with your hands silently from a professional who's an expert with the use of sign language that's used by the hard of hearing people in our community. I can't understand your gestures at a face pace. Could you please slow down? Thank you very much. 👍🏻 if you strongly agree.

The sign that you used for “gray” is very similar, almost the same as the sign I learned for “whatever/anyway”. Is there a subtle difference that I am not catching? Or are they the same sign, and you just have to use context clues? Thanks!
@ASLMeredith
@ASLMeredith 5 жыл бұрын
Great question, Katherine! You're right that context would definitely help distinguish GRAY and WHATEVER/ANYWAY/NOMATTER, but the signs are slightly different. For GRAY, the hands are in a "5" handshape, with fingers spread straight out and the hands move such that the fingers move seamlessly through each other. For WHATEVER, the handshape is less a sharp "5" and the fingers are more together, such that the movement doesn't move so seamlessly - the fingers actually brush against one another (as opposed to GRAY, where the fingers pass by without touching/smashing). I hope this helps !!

@@lessismore8533 Thanks for the kind feedback! Glad you're enjoying. I don't know the sign "doesn't matter" to be slang... it's a widely used sign! I *could* see someone saying it's not a formal sign you'd use, say, in a lecture - like you might sign "not important" instead. the sign NOT-MATTER could mean something isn't important, but also could mean "whatever" or "anyway", so its uses vary.

Hmm.. I've never seen a sign for the color GRAY with the G handshape at the forehead; is that ASL or a different sign language? Or perhaps it's SEE? Good eye! They are similar, but the handshapes are different. Meredith not sure why but no one is talking in the background? Or maybe it's my iPad, too old?

You're correct - this video does not have any voiceover :) It's one of my oldest videos and those didn't have any sound. BUT as you notice later, the shirt color indicates which color is being signed :)

Hi Debbie, thanks for the feedback! This is one of my oldest videos, which is why the format (including lack of voiceover) is different from most of my lessons. That said, did you notice the shirt color changes? That's meant to tell you what the sign is represtening here.

Forced to watch a 5 minute advertisement to get to the video! NOPE!

Hi Brett, thanks for your feedback. None of my ads force 5-minute ads. They're all the skippable 5-second kind. You'll see the 5-sec countdown and "skip" button in the bottom right corner of the video. Hope that helps!

This is one of my OLDEST videos, so had no voiceover (which I do). I haven't re-done this video though, because the colored shirts are meant to 'speak' for themselves!

There are no closed captions because there's no voiceover or sound to caption. It's just the color of my shirt (also written on screen) and the sign that's shown. For most of the video, I'm signing *only* the name of the color. Then at the very end (last 20 seconds), I repeat all the signs, roughly in rainbow order. Appreciate your feedback though and I hope to redo this video at some point in the future!
