Since apparently some of y'all aren't the sharpest fish in the cookie jar, you do this so you can quickly develope a feel for distance and spin. The key word being develope. You want to be able to repeat the same successful muscle movement every time at certain distances. You have a bullshit aiming system in your head that says, "yeah this will probably hit it!" No matter how good you get, that system isn't real until the knife hits. However, your bullshit system is upgraded to the Deluxe Pretty Fuckin' Accurate Bullshit System when you get your muscle memory down and have an accurate idea of how much spin to add at which distance with which force. So the question is whether you want your shitty bullshit system, or you want the deluxe model. His way will help you get the deluxe model. And by the way, once you do what he does enough, and practice at different distances later, you can more accurately smooth out your bullshit system intervals, so it doesn't have to be exactly every six feet to get the spin right. It's gets less accurate there until you practice there too, but it's definitely more accurate and you have a higher success rate than if you had no muscle memory, because your brain does the calculations for you. The more info you give, the better the bullshit system, is all I'm saying.

@@Meloncholymadness no spin is even worse, the knife needs to make a 90 degree rotation from ANY distance. at least in the spin technique the amount of spins is proportional to the distance, in the no spin the knife needs to rotate exactly the same from any distance you throw it from.

@me Me there is a difference between cutting down live trees and throwing knives at them, when you cut them down, you are probably using resources, so you aren’t killing it for nothing, when you are throwing knives at it, it damages the tree, and the tree could get an infection, fungi, or bugs could move in, which would cause more problems. Use your brain before making a stupid comment

Why would you throw a small knife (possibly your only weapon left) with an impact that is similar to a dart game? We trained with combat knives and had to put enough force to go through the plywood. Either way, you still had to decide if it was really worth throwing your last weapon once and end up with nothing,.. or keeping a grip on it and going hand-hand.

So that implies you have to be a specific distance from a target for the technique to work... in a defensive situation, you'd have to gage that pretty quickly while the attacker is moving. This would seem to be a bit unrealistic to do. I assume there must be a way to do it, but I haven't researched this beyond this video.

Knife throwing as defense is incredibly risky and sub-optimal.
@Zombiefighterguy
@Zombiefighterguy 6 жыл бұрын
You really only have to judge when they’re gonna be a few feet away from you. As in, as the attacker moves closer to you, it’s most effective to judge when they would be about 3-4 feet in front of you and throw it then. Then, the blade will strike without spinning, retaining more energy and having more stopping power. More likely though, if you only had one knife, you’d probably just want to keep it as a melee weapon. Even a good stick isn’t always debilitating, it is a puncture wound after all. Throwing won’t always be the most reliable option, in a defensive scenario.

My question is, is there any practical reason to learn to throw knives? The big draw to me is that with skill you can throw knives, large nails, and even screw drivers in a pinch, but most of the time i would probably have a handgun so it wouldnt be preferable. Is knife throwing effective enough in combat to be a viable alternative in a pinch when firearms are unavailable? Or should i just work with cover to get in close. Do you think it is worth the effort to learn? Could it possibly save someones life?
@alexpilkington3257
@alexpilkington3257 5 жыл бұрын
Actually sort of answered my own question, you would probably be better off throwing a heavyier blunt object like a rock or wrench and then charging the enemy while they are staggered. Which just about anyone can do and doesnt take training.

In a true survival situation you probably wouldn't want to throw your knife. I have a set of 6 large throwing knives with numerous cut outs and am pretty good at spin throwing and learning no spin though it's not nearly as much fun. If I had time in a true life or death situation I would make several spears.2 for throwing and one for hand to hand, assuming I had cordage. I don't concentrate too much on combat applications as I do have and carry guns. I just really enjoy throwing. And once you become experienced you will become proficient at judging distances

You really limit the power potential with that faster spin rate and handle grip when compared with a blade grip and half spin at 12 feet...more of a slip release and a bonus long distance sync at 1.5 rotation to target with the same spin rate ...should be around 20 feet or so

Nice video, but your grip doesn't give the knife power of penetration. Try full blade or handle grip and do a full shoulder rotation like you are throwing a power punch. The knife will embed well into the target. Start with half rotation and then add distance and rotations.

+Leaf Rusenov and Dustin , thanks for the laughs, yes I myself watch a lot of youtube and watch survival programs on tv. The fire starting does make me laugh , I mean one person is trying to out think the others on the best way to light a fire. If you have equipment then use it ie, a bic lighter , if you hunt use a gun or learn to trap, but in cases where you have not the luxury of equipment then you must know how to light a fire with friction ( remember you have nothing ) you must trap game and gather berries, edible veg, also catch / trap / stick a fish. That is real survival .. Luckily very few find them selves in this tough position. I think if I could choose one thing in a bad situation it would be a quality knife. You can make so much with a sharp blade . Thank you. and thanks Dustin , I can throw a knife very well but was interested in how you went about it.. Dont worry about the Camo' if it feel good wear it ... Cheers .. + Make more vids

Seanie P, C Thanks man, great comment. We will be making more videos soon! This was the easiest way I could teach someone to land their knife throw. Most of the people buying throwing knives in our store are kids (New Hampshire) who don't know where to start.

I would recommend starting with cardboard as a target. That way you can see what your doing and if you're doing it correctly. great vid otherwise

So say if I'm learning from a video to throw a knife to "protect my self" I'm going to want to step up to the person trying to hurt me/attack and then go "heal to toe" and say hang on let me back up 6 steps stand still I wanna get this right.

The physics formula of one rotation for every six feet is for knives that are 1 foot long.
