I appreciate so much that you take the time to give as much detail for the more “basic” skills as you do the more advanced ones! You have a magic way of explaining things that make me think “oh, I can do that”.

Julia: speaking as an amateur skater, and pro photographer, I just have to commend you on those ice-level closeups of the feet. Best I've ever seen in a skating instructional. This is what sets you apart from the other good coaches on KZbin, you are using the medium of photography correctly. We NEED to really see what the feet are doing, and we can't unless we get a shot that is close enough, from the right angle, and probably in slow motion, otherwise we just can't learn through our eyes and would have to rely on conceptual descriptions, or being told how the move should feel. There's a lot going on. The footwork is subtle and hard to see, and you have to be equally skilled in photography and coaching to make it visible. Takes practice. Exaggerating the motion was a good move, too. Not sure what your method was to get a stabilized camera that low, but all I can say is YES, YES, YES, thank you! BTW I enjoy doing two-foot turns, and they are also a lot of fun to do in a straight line. And may I put in a plug for outward-facing crossovers, which I never see anybody doing, but feel really cool... 🙂

Dear Julia, I am a very big fan from Germany. I am skating since I am 6 years old, but only in the winter on a frozen sea where I live. So the circumstances are rare and only a few weeks of the years. But with your videos Incan now do the waltz and I was never more proud of myself. Therefore I wanna thank you for your detailed and very clear videos. You are doing great and I hope your channel will stay for a long time. So I can learn more at they upcoming winter skating seasons in Germany. Greetings & a big hug ❤

Dear Julia! I have been skating for about 6 years now, but only with your explanation I have been able to learn things I haven’t been able to do before! It’s amazing!! Thank you soooo much for making these movies!!! I would really love you to make a movie about chocktows and outside Mohawks (or maybe I just missed those videos) especially the chocktows are like impossible for me.. I would be very grateful!!!! Thanks again for being such a good teacher and sharing your knowledge to us wanna be ice skaters haha!! ❤

I've been struggling with this for weeks and was just searching last week through your youtube channel for a tutorial on this specifically, so I'm REALLY happy you shared this! I'm learning figure skating in a country where I don't fully understand the language, so having other references like yours really helps

OMG I am struggling with the two-foot turns while seeing this video coming up! 🥹 Thank you so much for the tips! ❤ Today I just passed all my core blade exams. And I found this is the most challenging skills for me.. 😢 I can do it in a very slow mode, but when adding speed and trying to turn, I will fall.. 😢 Now after watching your video, I am feeling more confident - will try again next time!! 💪

I just discovered your channel. I’m trying to learn how to skate as my son wants to play hockey, so we’re learning basics together. I love your explanations, it makes things very clear what I’m supposed to do when. It’s been a big help for my beginning skating journey as an adult beginner!

One thing I found helpful for 2-foot turns is when entering the turn, to twist my torso as far as I can facing the circle before turning (or away from the circle for backwards). Almost to where my chest is 90 degrees to the direction of travel. That way it feels like the blade starts turning on its own, and all I have to do is wait for that feeling, ride it through, and check out. Once my torso is in the right place, it's super effortless; it's like the turn does itself! It's also important to keep your weight straight up and down while turning. I've seen people try to do 2-foot turns while leaning really forward, and their balance becomes a mess on the exit because their flailing their weight around.

It took me a month to finally get 2-foot turn. A couple key things that worked for me: getting used to going backwards, even slowly; making sure feet are close; keeping the whole body straight and tightened, which my coach put as "turn as if you're a lazy susan"

Hey Julia, you truly inspired me and I want to thank you! You really sparked my love for figure skating and I'm going to do competition figure skating next year. I would really appreciate it if you made a tutorial on how to know which way you turn. I'm righthanded but foot wise I have no idea. I used to surf a lot and I feel like regular and goofy might work here as well....

This is really great, *especially* the slow motion. I feel like something like this for outside 3-turns would be hugely beneficial. I've watched Coach Julia's 3-turn videos I don't know how many times, but for some reason still over rotate those and immediately after the turn plant that second foot. Even had three coaches look at it and still haven't figured it out.

Hi Coach Julia!! Thank you for the video. Is this the same as the 2 foot turn you learn in basic 2. It looks a little different so I’m not sure. I am struggling a little with this (and I love how you break everything down) So I just want to make sure I am using this tutorial to help me. I am not so happy with group lessons, and private is just sooo expensive! I find your videos help me understand better and how to position my body. My group classes did not break down forward crossovers, and now I am learning it backwards (barely having it forwards, and backwards is terrifying! Are you going to do the app (basic LTS) skills? I hate to say this…but with all the coaches I’ve had in group classes, you rally set the bar high for them when it comes to teaching. I wish I were closer to you so you could be my coach 😢. I love the videos. Thanks for all you do 😊

Funny how this is one of the easier turns but I’m a bit scared to try them. Lately, I’ve been working on straightening my 3 turns for jump entries by squeezing my right shoulder blade behind me, and that has really made my right shoulder muscle cramp up. Shucks…

facing circle - engaged, core, blah blah blah it just aint gonna. 6 months of learn to skate with numerous expensive opens/free styles/private coach and zip. nada. there are just those - ME - that aint gonna be able to do something so simple. although - I am thinking of a whole new rink/lessons. or get a 10 year old who just learned them to show me the way. the coaches that have been on ice for 30 years show ONCE and then begin downright rudeness for that person that isn't getting it. i am an abused ice skater wanna be. probably because I am old. Oh --- we never worked on scooter pushes, etc. just skimmed thru as fast as we could, we look like fools - and were given we passed pieces of scrap paper to hurry and sign up for next classes. oy. i am ready to chuck the $400 boots $300 coronation ace blades and call it a day.
