Wanted to say thank you for the entertaining and informative videos you are making for people to use trying to learn Japanese. Also happened to notice that you (unless someone else uses the name and title) do a little translation work for some manga. I waned to thank you for that as well for the people who aren't good enough with Japanese yet to be able to enjoy stories we might not otherwise. Additionally its nice seeing someone translate in a non-"dirty weeb" or deviating from content way, too many years I've seen people translate but not seem to understand little things such as honorifics not meaning anything in English so either removing them or using a more appropriate context (such as Fern calling Frieren "Mistress Frieren" because of their relationship and not Frieren-sama within an English sentence). Once again thanks and keep up the great work.

Thank you Sensei Misa. It's always a joy to see a new video from you again. I appreciate learning the phrase about a cat's paw that means needing all the help one can get. I hadn't heard that idiom before. I think an English expression involving hands that I thought of is one used more by teachers in a classroom where a teacher might say "please hand in your homework." Which is like please turn in your homework. Glad to hear you're feeling better. Take care! :)

I have a short history with learning Japanese, but I had to postpone it for later, as I also have to learn Chinese for my university degree. Still I enjoy to come back to your videos from time to time as they're very entertaining as well as informative. On top of that, it's nice to see you getting the recognition you deserve. Maybe I'll be able to get back to learing Japanese someday. In case of that, I bet I'll get back here to smoothen the process of learning foreign language.

Thank you very much. That was really good. The cat idiom was interesting. We have an expression, in English it's lit. ''Her hand is sweet'' - used toward someone (female) who is very good at cooking. And not before the person, but when the person is not there. It uses honorifics, so it sounds as a praise. It it's male, it'd just be He is good at cooking or a good cook.

Two English hand idioms are "sitting on your hands" and "my hands are tied." Both mean a person who is aren't doing anything. If someone is sitting on their hands, it means they are choosing to not do anything. It is their choice to not contribute. If someone has their hands tied, it means they cannot do anything. There is something preventing them from being able to contribute.

トルコ語で「el atmak」があります。意味は「手伝う」。Literal translation is “hand + throw”, or “throw a hand”. This is just n idiomatic way of saying “to help” though. Simple/direct way is “yardım etmek” which translates literally as “help + causative-do”. I just realized that there are at least two types of “do”s in Turkish…

It's really common to see 手 or the radical form of it in the names of sumo winning techniques (kimarite). This comment may just be an excuse for me to encourage all of you watch the current sumo tournament, where someone new to the top division (Takerufuji) is putting on a legitimate historic performance 😁

As far as hand expressions, in portuguese there is the expression "passar a mão" that means to steal, either in literal or figurative sense, even if a literal translation to english would be close to "grope" of "fondle". You' d use in a phrase like "O juiz passou a mão no Vasco no jogo ontem" that wouldn't mean any kind of sexual harassing, but that the judge "stole" the game in favour of Vasco Da Gama's (a football team) opponents. Just be careful because, depending on the context, the literal meaning is still valid (you can make some edgy jokes with this ambiguity).

Recently-ish I learned the words 奥手 and 手入れ. Naive as I was, I thought they were somehow related to 奥の手 and 手に入る, expressions that I had already learned before. But as it turns out 全然関係あらへんわ. The overarching lesson is that the advice "if you know Kanji, you can kind of guess the meaning of many words" doesn't really work all that well in many cases.
