Sync Bin is amazing! Used clips from 4 cameras - all clips (different angles) contains about 45 minutes from a concert - and DaVinci resolve synced all in about 2 minutes! Fantastic! Love it!

So I have never had success with sync bins. for some reason They never show up. I followed your method and It says no Clips synced. I sync the same way but it just doesnt show up. Its not a super big inconvenience, i still sync using the cut page method. its great. Do you have thoughts as to why it wouldn't be working? I am using 2 angles and one audio file. Each video file has audio also.

One of the better sync bin tutorials. I wish you had gone over using a separate audio track, deleting unwanted footage, and when you're all done in the cut page, do you just flip to the edit page to add transitions, and titles?

Dear Alex! I couldn't thank you enough for all the help your nowledgeable and at the same time highly enjoyable Resolve tutorials have given me along the road changeing from Premiere! I hope you will keep going. Now I have a question om my own. If I want to sync, let's say, three videos from three different cameras, where each video is split into three clips by the camera, how would I go about it? When I try to sync from the media pool to use from the sync bin it only makes nine different camera angles, and when I try to create a multicam timeline it seems to sync randomly even with the right box checked (detect clips from same camera). I try to sync by audio. What to do?

I shoot music videos with only one camera but with 3 angles or more angles. Can i synchronize these clips in multicam and than just make montage in real time while video is playing? For example Sony Vegas had this feature when i saw 3 or more angles in the same time and clicked on numbers of my keyboard and it automatically cuted clips and maked one track from all of angles. Hope you'll understand what i mean.

This looks great... but I could not find a way to use an audio track from a digital recorder with this... I included it in with the files to be synced and it looks like it was, but I can't drag it to the timeline.... is there some other step needed for this? I feel like I am missing something because without the ability to do this, it's pretty weak.. and DR is not known for that!

Great video on this feature but a question (or two). I am a newbie and I come from a Premiere background and to do multicam there it was as you explained....My workflow in Premiere: I create one timeline with all my cams, use audio to synch. Then I would bring that timeline as its own clip into another timeline....then using the Premiere multicam window I can just hit play on the timeline then click on the shots I want , real time.....much as like when a director calls a show....and the timeline updates. I can see all the cameras rolling "live" just by playing the muilticam timeline. When the shot is "right" , I click to switch to that camera....then watch the other cameras and watch for my next great cut, click and move on.....and so on down the line....when I stop, all the edits update on the timeline immediately. Does Resolve have any function for doing it that way easily? Can that be done somehow in the sync bin utility? Seems like once I use sync to place the clip I would then have to play with ins/outs..... not a huge issue for shorter pieces where artistic cuts are massaged constantly. But for long format (think 4 camera, 2 hour theatrical events) stuff, I am not sure sync would be the right tool? I should also mention that I shoot everything in either XAVC (Sony x70) or AVCHD (Sony handicams)...I understand there may be issues with clips and audio sync for those formats? BTW, love your presentation style...easy to listen to and thorough enough to be thorough but no overload for the newbie. Thanks for posting these videos!

Amazing feature, Thank you for the inf. Question: what if you have 38 clips of different lengths. A wedding for instance with 2 cams but totally independently filmed. One cam may have long clips and the other short clips. Would the sync still work (obviously there will need to be a min length for DR to recognize the audio to be able to sync)?

I'm almost convinced of switching from FCPX to Resolve 16.x. I would like to ask you something if I may. On my projects, I use a lot of very short multi-cams cuts (some of them with a length of a second, and even less). The best time-saving workflow I'm using so far in FCPX is to create all that angle cuts on the flight, as I watch it. I just press play and while I watch the multiple angles I use keyboard shortcuts to change the active angle, which creates a multi-cam angle sequence on the fly, that I can refine after if I need too. Wonder if this is possible on Resolve 16.x. Thanks in advance and keep the great work!

Wonderful tutorial. Thank you so much. Very well explained and articulated. I wonder if you could talk about a little but about switching audio sources when switching cams as well? I once recorded an interview with 2 cameras with their own audio but found it a nightmare to switch between audios when switching cameras because everything was sync'ed in Premiere based on the audio from one particular camera. So it would be interesting to learn how DaVinci will resolve that.

I have 2 cameras and an audio file I need to sync up and sometimes use both camera shots at the same time (side by side). Our cameras only record 10 minutes at a time so we start the cameras several times for an hour shoot. Each clip is being treated as a separate camera when I make a sync bin or any kind of multicam set up. Is there any way to sync several clips from 2 cameras to one long audio file?

This will be very useful to me as I do almost exclusively multicam video. However, my footage cannot be synced by audio or timecode but I'm guessing there is a manual sync option. I'm also hoping that this method allows multiple audio sources too. I do flying videos that have cockpit audio as well as ambient sound and all must be synced. I have an additional issue that the audio recorder runs at a slightly different speed to the cameras, but that's a topic for another video I think.

Resolve everytime loose some footages from PluralEyes XML, so I open XML in Premier and export new XML - and Resolve work with it well. 2. If I have a few shots from one angle? Sync Bin will groupe them? Sync Bin can do what do PluralEyes or not?))))

Евгений Балабанович I have failed with trying to sync a 3-camera setup with audio recorder (Zoom H6) for a concert. Somehow the metadata for angle seams not work for syncing audiotracks on the Cut-Page. But, with Resolve 16.1 it was the first time, I could manage to sync the same files to a Multicam-Clip without errors. Just treat your audiotracks like videotracks, define them as a separate angle in metadata (A, B, C, D, or so on, stereo-tracks as the same angle ...) Like that it 100% worked.

the problem with syncing by waveform and using non-professional cameras like dslr, gopro etc. is, that the image has always 2 to 3 frames delay to the recorded audio due to the slow image processing power of the cams, resulting in way out of sync videos, just like this one... ;)) is there a way to slip/offset the audio automatically? love your vids anyway... keep up the great work! :)

Great feature! But my problem is that I have multiple clips that stop and start. I use Sony so I have enabled time codes. So the sync is pretty close. However, since I have so many disparate clips, Resolve thinks that my two camera set up is actually 9 cameras. How do I get it to recognize that only two cameras are running? Tks.

It would be very good if you could integrate what you say about the sync bin with some of your other other videos on editing video and especially audio. I do videos of live classical chamber music, and two cameras with a separate pro digital soundtrack are a minimum, with three being the norm (the third actively "in hand", the other two on high tripods). When I mess up, or Murphy strikes, redundant SYNCHED video, and occasionally sound from one of the RODE mics is needed to save the day. The new Sync bin seems a godsend, but colour must also be matched, and sound cleaned up and sometimes seamlessly "spliced".

I like the way you make a complicated feature, simple to understand. very good job. As i mainly working on Avid Media Composer, i must say, sync bin is a very complicated way to edit multi cam . on media composer, you just sync a number of cameras to one multi cam group clip. and that's it. you put this clip on the timeline, and you can cut to any of the cameras at any given place and time. no need to go back and forth to a sync bin or anything else. just add edit and choose your cam of choice. Why BMG make this feature so complicated?

The problem with the sync bin, as far as I can tell, is that you have to know which clips you want to sync together BEFORE you add them to the timeline. This is aproblem, because I need to see the track lengths as well as the sound waves to know which clips should be combined into a multicam clip. There's no way to create a multicam clip when you already have them manually synced up, is that right? I've already got my clips synced. I had to do it manually, because without knowing which clips go to which, and since Resolve cannot create multiple multitrack clips from multiple clips on multiple cameras all at the same time, the sync bin isn't helpful for me. The other problem is that with resolve, the media bin doesn't show the filename when you hover over the files. So if you have a long filename, all you see in the media bin is (example) "NINJA _V_S001..." for each file. Pfft. There's no way to tell what the clip name is unless you right click on the file, then weed through the menu to find "Show Attributes" and click again. One by one for each file. That, plus the fact that when Resolve brings clips in, it doesn't display them in chronological order, they're just brought in in some random looking order.. The workaround would be to rename all the files to short filenames Resolve is capable of displaying in the media bin, but that isn't always an option.. Either that or sit there for an hour playing a memory concentration game with Resolve... So to figure out what clips go to which, I still have to use my old editor just to line them up easier. BlackMagic could make the tool actually useful for people like me just by making a few simple changes. Just let me see what the name of the file is without having to go through 3 mouse clicks, geez!

I saved this because I knew I'd need it in the future, but it doesn't seem to work with sequential clips, such as GoPros from multiple angles. Creating a timeline with them or even a compound clip doesn't solve it as sync clip doesn't treat it as one continuous file. Is there any workaround that doesn't require spending hours exporting each angle to a singular clip?

Hello Alex! Great video as always. I want to give an idea for a topic that no one is talking about. Its called ""FRUSTRATION"" of a cut page. When I try to work in CUT page , from the first second , I am so confused and always i switch to the edit page. Why? Simply because when you select some part from a clip and you want to start from the begining, Resolve mysteriously put the clip somewhere in the field and it is always away from 00.00.00.00 at least visually. This thing just drives me crazy always.

From the video it appears that resolve is layering the clips, each with its own audio. So the sound from all the layers would play at the same time. With a master audio track this is fine, since the other layers will most likely be muted. But I'm also curious to know what happens if we actually need the audio from the clips... 🤔

I try to use it I conjunction with the ATEM Mini Pro ISO, but I end up just stacking up the clips on the Edit Page and synching manually, with better and faster results. This is a perfect explanation, thank you. I see though that Resolve still doesn't handle very well when the clips are different. In my case it wasn't recognizing the audio to sync because the original clips had different channels/mono/stereo configurations. I changed those via "clip attributes" even though resolve should be smart enough to figure that out on its own. After I did that, it seemed like it wanted to sync but it keeps crashing. The clips also have different frame rates and that's something I will never be able to control. I tried to give the attribute of 30fps for both clips in clip attribute. Now it just crashes every time I try to sync. Also, clip attributes cannot be set in bulk. Any ideas in regard?

shortly Blackmagic is trying to create Plureleyes inside Davinci resolve. that is a great idea. but, this feature works only for single clips, if you have 20 clips from camera 1, 20 clips from camera 2, 10 clips from camera 3, sync bin won't help you. you have to go to plural eyes or similar software.

How does this work, if one of the clips in the sync bin is Audio Only from an External Audio Recorder?

It doesn't. You'll need timecode or to do it manually. Note sync by timecode in DR is not reliable at all. Even now at 17.2

It would be great to see it work but it does not. Davinci fails to recognize properly audio.

I'm about to start editing another music video, so I was really interested to know more about this. But I usually work with 10/18 camera angles in sync. I guess multicam might still work better for that task.
