Nice job! I have four guys that I turn to assist with my DR learning, they all have mad skills, but you are a far superior teacher. You provide an excellent rationale for all the processes, and your screenshots and highlighted mouse feature make learning easy. don't go changing a thing.

Thank you so much for this video! Ive never heard these control explained so clearly; especially the Pivot control. I never understood what that control really did until now. It's almost a game changer for me. :)

I've taken alot of different Davinci Resolve courses and tutorials and as far as I'm concerned this guy is THE BEST. He explains things in a simple and progressive manner and even gets into the more advanced stuff like motion masking etc. I did purchase his courses and they are worth every penny. In fact I think it's time to go back and review and will be discarding all material other than his. Well done. This video just reminded me of how valuable your Davinci Resolve training style is. At least for me.

once again, astounding......if there was an award for best colour tutorials, you would win it. many thanks for this. its odd how we try to make grading so complicated when it can also be achieved in the simplest ways.

on tab 1 it has changed in 16.1.1 to contrast, pivot, low range high range sat and hue. What is the importance of low range and high range? Thanks. I always like your videos they are really very very helpful. Just now switching to Davinci from Premiere pro, that I used for about 20 years!

That's very helpful! These controls remind me to the ones in photo editing, most of them are even called the same there. And they are quite essential in most cases there.

I've been looking for this sort of explainer for Resolve since I started!!! Very cool, thank you for taking the time to explain! How Can you save a color profile (or create a LUT) for later?
@vingt1005 жыл бұрын
Color boost is NOT a normal saturation control for the original(input) color. It saturates the less saturated colors more than the high saturated. Only if you desaturate the image all the way down it doesn't matter... But good to know that the pipeline works differently, thank you 🙏
@TheRedValue5 жыл бұрын
It's an additive function while saturation is a multiplicative one. There was a video by some other big colorist who explained that really well.
@vingt1005 жыл бұрын
I just checked the manual: "Color boost allows you to increase the saturation of lower saturated colors without too much increase in high saturated colors." The image stays orange because one of them happens before the orange color tint, and the other one after (pipeline wise). That's what he talked about, i just wanted to point out that that's not the only difference It's a bit like adobes saturation and vibrance tools...

Bravo, excellent course on the nine other color controls. I am possibly an intermediate beginner (maybe too much credit there). I have used these controls often because they can also make up for my other mistakes along the way. But, I never new exactly what all of them were and how they should be used. And, so much can be done without the color wheels. The color wheels seem to be giant steps for coloring and the lower controls in this video seem to be a finer tuning. Great course and thank you.

Does Resolve have a feature equivalent to Premier's Ripple Trim Previous Edit to Playhead and Ripple Trim Next Edit to Playhead? I can't imagine doing a rough cut without this wonderful editing feature and from what I see so far, Resolve doesn't have an equivalent.

Good Job, I been grading with resolve for two and half years and always used those control to balance out an image. I’ve seen many color grading tutorials whereby they hardly ever touch those controls. Every time i’m scratching my head wondering why they go for the curves for simple contrast adjustments.

Hi Alex, Thank yoy for your helpful uploads. I have also enrolled in your online course and find it extremely helpful- a lot of work must have gone into it- it'definitely worth the expense. I would strongly recommend to anyone who feels overwhelmed by all this to start editing photos in a program like Lightroom first. I consider myself lucky to have that photography background (even though when I started taking pictures 40 years ago, the only colour controls were the light source and the type of film ;-) Many thanks!

Excellent video. One big question: you say that Hue it's used much in a standard workflow, but it's one that I've totally latched onto for skin correction. When I make a skin qualifier and Highlight and look in the Vectorscope, it's not uncommon for me to see what should be on the skin tone line following a different angle. The other controls scoot parts of that line around, but the Hue lets me rotate the line until it falls on the skin line. I'm sure it would be wreaking havoc with the rest of the image, but since I've qualified just the skin, it works well. I think. Am I doing it wrong?

Hi there, no offences but this is not the essence of CB (color boost) at all. What you present as the usage of the CB is only a simpler alternative technique that in a serious projet should normaly take place using multiple nodes to emphasise the series of events. In fact CB actually affects more the relatively lower saturated parts of the image than the higher saturated and that's it. It is nothing more than a simplified sat vs sat curve (from the category of the fancy staff I guess). For those comming from the Adobe world, the corresponding CB there is called "Vibrance" and it is essentially the same thing.
