Hi teacher, I really like your lessons. You make me understand more and bring my basic knowledge in English back. I come from Vietnam and now I'm in grade 9. This is the last grade in secondary school and English is one of the most important Subject of my test to become a grade 10 student. But my English is not good, especially in tenses. My sister has found you in KZbin. I look at your list of tenses, it only has 3 videos. I know that you do your best to add more. But I really need it now. I hope to see more videos sooner. Thank you for your teaching.

Thank you so much! Much appreciated. I hope to learn the present perfect one day, in my opinion it's the most difficult one of the present tenses.
@LearnEnglishLab
@LearnEnglishLab 7 жыл бұрын
I agree, it can be quite challenging. I will be making lessons on the present continuous first and then come to present perfect. But if there's anything particular you are finding difficult about the present perfect, let me know, and I will make a quick lesson on that :)
@nathand.384
@nathand.384 7 жыл бұрын
I don't want to bother you with too many questions because you must have a lot to do, but can you just confirm if this is correct or not. 1. For the present perfect it's about time that started somewhere in the past and is continuing up until now. 2. I can always use subject + has/have + past participle of the verb to form the present perfect in all cases. 3. The difference between present perfect and present perfect continuous is the fact that PFC has an ING ending whereas the PP has an ending with the past participle, and they also differ in time. PP for actions that have generally finished and PFC for actions that may continue for a longer period of time. If you can confirm these 3 rules are correct, then I think I know what the PP is finally about. If it's incorrect, then I will just have to wait for your lesson about the PP haha! :)
@LearnEnglishLab
@LearnEnglishLab 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, you can ask as many questions as you want :) Rule #2 is correct. 1 & 3 are generally correct but there are other uses for the present perfect that are not covered by these two rules. For example, "I've been to France three times." - This shows life experience - there's no action here that started in the past and still continues. Instead of typing up a longer response, I can take this as a lesson request and make a quick lesson on the present perfect simple and continuous tenses. I can put it out in a couple of days - would that work?
@nathand.384
@nathand.384 7 жыл бұрын
Okay I see. If I take that example you gave me there with "I've been to France three times", can we then say that it's a PP tense because it happened somewhere in the past (always unspecific time for PP if i'm not mistaken) but the action is finished. Basically I think I'm having a hard time separating PP from PPC (I can see that I wrote PFC before but that was a mistake regarding the abbreviation of present perfect continuous). Yes I'm sure it would help a ton with some material on the rest of the present tenses. I would really appreciate that! Whenever you got time! Much appreciated!
@LearnEnglishLab
@LearnEnglishLab 7 жыл бұрын
I must have missed this comment, hence the late reply. You are correct, Michael, the time is nonspecific here. Also, in "I've been to France three times" we use PP because the time period we are talking about is my life, and that time period is still unfinished (I'm alive!). Even though the actions (three visits) are finished, the time period is not. That is the connection it has to the present. I will be filming the lesson on present perfect vs. past simple on Tuesday, so that should clarify some of these points :)

Question: We add a base form of the verb for "You" (which is plural). But what if "You" is singular in a sentence? We add -s or -es depending on the verb? (I read "you" can be singular and plural depending on the sentence. Is it right?)
