Comprehensive insurance is almost always cheaper than third party only (and often significantly so). Not many people believe that but just try for yourself, you’ll see! I can only imagine it’s because over time, the algorithms have detected that people who have higher insurance costs generally select third party only to try save some cash. Add additional drivers one by one and compare how each one affects your quotes. My mom for example, has an auto only license and actually brings my insurance price up quite significantly so watch out for that. Self-Employed additional drivers are a godsend because you can be somewhat “creative” when putting down their career. When asked to provide you estimated mileage, don’t go too low! I’ve found the sweet spot is 3500 miles (obviously be honest - but nobody is expected to provide a 100% accurate estimate so you can play around with it). Those tips apply whether you have a car in mind or not, the next are a few unexpected tips when picking a car. Avoid new cars! If you’re lucky enough to be getting a new car as a first car, probably choose something a year or so old. Brand new cars have mental insurance for some reason. You can try this out for yourself. Run a quote for a brand new VW UP (or any usually cheap car to insure) and then run a quote for a slightly used faster car (you’ll be amazed). Don’t be afraid to go bigger in size (dimensions). Often people expect that a smaller car (in terms of dimensions) will be cheaper to insure, but this is not always the case! You should play around with this a bit because sometimes you can get a cheaper quote for a mini or even a standard than a supermini. Go for slightly rarer cars or cars which are less common amongst people who have accidents. No disrespect to anyone, but if I was an insurance provider, I also wouldn’t want to insure a 17 year old on a Golf GTI. There’s plenty of cars that are as fast for the same money but are slightly less desirable amongst the crowd the insurance companies are trying to avoid, all you have to do is google them. A good example of this is BMW. Imagine you want a 1 series, but insurance is too high. Well, there’s plenty of 3 series cars for the same price but which essentially cut insurance by a third! It’s strange but it tends to work. And my final tip - the algorithm is not too keen on anything rear-wheel drive or automatic. For example, something like an automatic 1 series would be much pricier to insure than a manual a3. This is despite the fact that depending on the engine, they both go roughly the same speed. These tips won’t work for everyone because car insurance is a complicated game run mostly by computers, no single person fully understands it. But, try some of them (especially the ones which are not related to the type of car you pick) and see what happens.

ive been fully comp from day one and still am , think that what also saved my year no claims when hit by uninsured driver old lady false plates. mine was £1900 a year for 2007 fiesta 1.4tdci 70bhp not a fast at all but lightweight so fun to drive that age 32. now i got no claims protected but when i asked to protect on my first year i could not even tick the box to protect but some how they were so that could only be because fully comp that all i can think the reason why, but £1900 a year for 70bhp diesel fiesta at 32, many years ago my mate at age 17 a 306 diesel turbo 90bhp had good top speed he paid £700, but he had rich parents and a driveway, so being wealthy too also lowers your insurance it seems. going at my mates rate but in 4 miles in a town near a big city (coventry) what i thought be right would be £1200 max less powerful car much older and in town known for wealthy snobby people because we in Warwickshire it should been lower than £1900. i did move from N Wales were grew up things seem to be cheaper, age and lower powered car really should be less than £1k but as old lady killed my first car i basically got my money back and car gained value and so how protected no claims so some plus points

wow auto insurance is so different in UK... here in New Zealand 95% of cars are automatic, and they don't even ask what job you have etc... just how long you've been driving and if you've had any incidents etc...

I'm in North Nottinghamshire and we have all sorts of colours! My route is orange but we also have yellow, blue, red, green, purple, pink and indigo! I drive with a friend as well as an instructor and we go to drive throughs a lot lol More importantly- did Riley pass? She was brilliant in this video and deserves too!

From Manchester, grew up with orange and white buses, then Stagecoach and blue magic buses, now they have the yellow bee buses. Newport and Cardiff have green buses

Glasgow - we have black cabs like London. Most of the buses are First Bus which are kinda blueish and white.

I just default went for a black box policy. Got a 0.9l car (keeps up with the big boys regardless lol). Mine was about £900 for the year so just going with that to get a start on my NCD and then probably go for a different type of policy come renewal time
