This is absolute gold, thank you. I’m teaching myself to model 1920s electric trolley cars in F360, and the roof curvature has given me challenges. Your uncomplicated explanation and demonstration has made sense of it all, so I’m grateful for what you’ve done.

Man thank you soooo much! I just began working on 3D modeling couple of months ago with a car design project in mind for years! Worked a lot on Blender but i don't know why i'm more confortable working on Fusion360! Seen a lot of videos but yours is by far the most detailed for FORMS! I learned a lot and i'll follow!

Glad to hear it! I do have a newer series as well kzbin.info/aero/PLBDfGh8A8kXW2KBn0b7pMsH5q6FLfSYql and there are more car vids on here. I have a blender series learning blender slowly with some videos on doing things like edges and working with mirrors, but I don't have an entire Blender series on car modeling, just Plasticity and Fusion 360 for now.

Great! I do have another car series on modeling an early 80s Porsche 911. Might be a bit closer in shape to a 40s Merc. I did that one in a single video for the body but with chapters. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKqlo6iZhraaZ9U There are 4 videos in that series going over some detail work and even rendering, but the main body is going to be about 7-7.5hrs of video.

Can you sketch it on the side view instead of doing it this way? Would like to make my own bodies for 3d printing
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign2 жыл бұрын
I am not sure I follow the question. The only requirement with forms is that if you have an open body it will convert to a surface, if you close it all up it will convert to a solid. You can thicken the surface in both the forms environment or in the design. Depending on how big you are printing you can control the inside and outside with forms.
@LukeMaximoBell1Ай бұрын
When I box select from the side profile it only selects the outer edge and not the inside edge as well. Any idea why this is happening? It seems I am unable to box select edges that are perpendicular to the viewing plane.

@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign I have another question. When I make the form invisible there is still like a ghost of the original face that has been contorted there. So it's shaped like the new form. How do I get rid of this? It's there whether the body is visible or not...
@LearnEverythingAboutDesignАй бұрын
@@LukeMaximoBell1 Yeah that happens with any solid or surface visible in the design when you go back and edit the form. So after you "finish Form" and you are seeing solids/surfaces. just hide all of them before you go back to edit the form.

Is it possible to model a car by using a single box instead of face modeling? And what benefits it can have ?
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign5 ай бұрын
Yes its possible but I can't think of any benefits. Doing wheel arches or changes in direction are much easier if you make 2 form bodies and connect them rather than trying to work it out of a single box. If you are going to cut wheel arches and add them later with surfacing tools it might be ok. Other things that have a more square profile would work well though. So when i did a game controller design for a client I started with a box.

@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign thanks for your answer, your videos are very helpful. Sometimes when I make some changes to faces my model color changes from gray to gold, any tip on how can I flip it back?
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign5 ай бұрын
@@steevesmith1573 usually that means there is an error/issue with the form such as it overlaps itself. If it lets you view it in box form but wont go smooth you generally need to look around for self-intersections/overlaps. Sometimes when you try to Finish the form it will not let you and it will highlight the areas. The yellow/gold display also tends to happen if you weld a single vert in an area. Another you can try is the utilities > Repair Body. Those are the general things to look for.

Hey, I had the same problem as another person, At 5:02 when I used alt and control to extrude the creased edge backward (I'm on a PC), it said failed to extrude the current selection set. I have tried multiple times but there is always the same result. Can you help?
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign5 ай бұрын
Double check that you only have edges selected. If you have a vertex or face in the selection it wont work. You can extrude faces or edges, but the selection has to be 100% one or the other. Also try it on a new form body. Make a Cylinder and see if it works on that and let me know.
@goodtimesracing71365 ай бұрын

@LearnEverythingAboutDesign Жыл бұрын
Do you mean the extrude with crease? To extrude while in Edit form hold down the ALT key on a PC. If you want to extrude with a creased edge you hold ALT + CTRL and then pull.

what is smooth display and how do you control it?
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign Жыл бұрын
The display mode can be found in the Utilities Drop down menu, or if you expand the Selection section in Edit Form Dialog. I control it with ALT+1 for Box display and ALT+3 for Smooth display. When modeling in Sub-D/Forms you are defining edges/faces that will control the underlying "smooth" surface. Modeling in Box Display is critical to the workflow of making good quality surfaces. Checking the smooth display will let you know what the converted surface/solid will look like. The utility "Make Uniform" will take a smooth display and try to average the faces to be closer to a box display.

@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign Thanks for the reply and help! I have a bigger problem though. How did you get the canvases to be the same size? I've tried recreating your method but I'm modeling the new Citroen Ami. When I started i noticed that my front canvas wasn't the same size as the top or side view. I used Microsoft paint to get the canvases. I'll try to figure it out but that's my current issue

@@mrjed6912 Most blueprints online will have measurements on them and each view will be scaled already. When you insert it into Fusion go to the canvas in the browser, right click and Calibrate it. This lets you pick 2 points and specify a dimension. This is usually how I go about scaling the blueprints when brought in.

Hi. Why would my ctrl and alt not work?
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign Жыл бұрын
Not really sure. If you have the default shortcut keys CTRL 4 and CTRL 6 should be visual models. If you go into the form utilities menu and to display mode does it show short cut keys for smooth and box display? If you go to your camera settings at the bottom of the screen does it show CTRL for the visual shortcuts?
