Description: "René Magritte was born in Belgium in 1898. After attending art school in Brussels, he worked in commercial advertising to support himself while he experimented with his painting. In the mid 1920s he began to paint in the surrealist style and became known for his witty and thought-provoking images and his use of simple graphics and everyday objects, giving new meanings to familiar things. With a popularity that increased over time, Magritte was able to pursue his art full-time and was celebrated in several international exhibitions. He experimented with numerous styles and forms during his life and was a primary influence on the pop art movement. He died in 1967."

Né à Lessines en 1898, René Magritte a étudié à l'Académie des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles. D'abord influencé par le cubisme, il s'impose rapidement comme la figure de proue du courant surréaliste, jouant sur le décalage entre les objets et leur représentation. Parmi ses œuvres phares, l'artiste décorera notamment d'une immense fresque le casino de Knokke-le-Zoute, entre 1951 et 1953. I'm more a Dali man, my favourite Magritte paintings are The Menaced Assassin (26.44) and one with unrelated objects receding into the distance (9:33), don't know title. Both poetic and strange but more realistic than most.

Those are called grelots, which are essentially jingle bells. Maybe it has something to do with the horses Magritte grew up around.

It may appear that LearnFromMasters holds Rene Magritte in high esteem. But that's not true. By allowing the automatic "Ken Burns Effect" to run (that's the long slow zoom in to each frame) unabated, the intention of the artist is buried in an AI-driven mechanical effect. It's not anywhere near "special", this effect. Indeed, it's mindless and trite.
