Learning A Song By Ear for Beginners

Mike, your tutorials have been so helpful! I started playing bass a few years ago when our praise band needed a bass player. I had never played bass before, but wanted to help out if I could. 3 weeks later I was on stage giving it my best shot! I’ve learned a lot since that first time, but I’m finding there is sooo much that I still don’t know. Your tutorials are helping me take it to the next level. Thanks so much!

Our church band has a similar issue and I feel God has put it in my heart to help , I played many years ago but this guys tutorials are really helpful . picked my bass from church tonight after bible study . ready to get started

Thanks, Mike! I learned something new today! I didn't realize that the #6 cord was in the mix. I learned to play Bass runs by ear in the '60's by picking the bass parts out of the songs of the times. Over the years I have done some not so serious studies of the bass. I am impressed with the development of You-tube and the tutorials that are out here and I enjoy the simplicity of your tutorial style!!

Hi Mike! Thanks for this tutorial. I am new to bass and trying to learn the instrument. I was a saxophonist for my worship band and I usually do 1, 3 and 5s of thr scale. Surprised that 1, 4, 5 and 6 works too. In your opinion, does 1, 3 and 5 work on thr bass as well?

I have a rule of thumb: If someone is trying to teach beginners anything about the bass guitar and they step up with a 5-string bass, they clearly don't know how to teach. So I give it a thumbs down and move on.
