I would really like to recommend that men just start investing in makeup, beauty products, and fashion (like women have been doing for decades) if they're insecure about their looks. This has been a thing for a while called "Metrosexual" (apparently taking pride in your appearance as a man is so rare that it needs its own special label.)

💯% true. When i was in highschool, my aunt bought me a "how to be a man" type book. I think it was translated from South Korea, and it was full of advice on makeup, skin and hair care, and even perfume. Does it help? No, i don't even like face wash. But it did make me more aware of my own shortfall.

I have a dental technician diploma, and bones can definitely change, when you move your teeth with braces, they do move across the actual bone, very slowly. When a person has a very narrow jaw, palate expanders are used to apply pressure to their upper molars and palate to make the maxilla grow wider. The thing Xander describes where you put a rubber band onto hooks is for fixing malocclusion, that can also affect face shape, but it's mostly for the sake of correct chewing and jaw muscle position, malocclusion can cause headaches and teeth deterioration. I'm not sure about mewing, haven't seen any studies about that, but it's a fact that constant mechanical pressure affects bone growth, moreso in children/teens, but it's possible in adults too
@geovaughan82613 ай бұрын
@@thedrakonishe5138 I doubt a person has the same level of strength and precision as an orthodontic device. You’d literally have to keep up that exact level of pressure and tension for hours on end, and I doubt the middle schoolers doing it have a dental technician diploma. If it even has any effect at all, they’re just as likely to mess up their jaw as they are to fix it.
@thedrakonishe51383 ай бұрын
@@geovaughan8261 moving teeth does require precision bc they're rather small and the correct position of them is crucial for a person's health, they need to be in an interlocked pattern in order to not put unnecessary strain on jaw muscles. However the vague goal of "make jawline more masculine" doesn't need to be that accurate with pressure, and while the result might take longer to achieve than straightening teeth by wearing braces, I wouldn't dismiss this activity entirely. It is., after all, availible for free, unline orthodontic treatment, and that's the biggest benefit of it. I would need to read actual studies to tell HOW effective it is, of course, but my main issue with Xander's words was that he straight up said bones can't change at all, which nah they definitely can if enough pressure is applied on regular basis.

The cooler teachers in my day, if mewing existed, would have wasted no time making an unresponsive mewer the focus of the class's attention, and not in a good way. Humiliation as a punishment was the name of the game, and if the kid in question is truly attempting to pull this face in the hope that he's magically going to change his looks so that girls would like him.....boy oh boy, that's a gold mine for roasting a teenager. Really makes me admire the teachers I had, cause they'd often point out how stupid us kids' behaviour was by simply bringing us down to earth and making us question the logic. And they wouldn't mind wasting some time to do so cause it was honestly just really funny for the whole class. The teacher talking about mewing on tik tok seems very nice, and progressive, sensitive and respectful etc. but that ain't gonna cut it with dumb teens. If a kid is too busy mewing to engage you gotta hit em with the "hey class. Jake's too invested in trying to fix his ugliness to answer. Anyone have any suggestions for him?"

Regarding the teacher, it seems she's seeing the newest form of irony poison sweeping through the student base. Irony poisoning is easily one of the worst things to come out of the internet. It spreads bad ideas while making the act of challenging or engaging with those ideas and the world a contemptable act, all under the guise of jokes . . . It makes actually tryinv to take things seriously a fucking nightmare, all because the internet thinks mocking people willing to show their emotions at all is le epic funni trolling or whatever.
@mattboy52964 ай бұрын
I've heard it described as "internet culture believes actually caring about things is cringe". That kind of cynical dismissiveness ends up creating a sort of nihilistic apathy in people because they think nothing matters and everything is a joke so why bother caring about serious issues when we just meme on the absurdity while everything burns. I'm not saying never take time to joke or meme on absurd world events, humor is a core human trait and coping mechanism. But we can't let it override our capacity to understand and care about serious issues that have a tangible impact on people and the world. That kinda shit is how we ended up getting Trump and the rise of the alt-right and encroaching fascism, because they actively feed on that stuff to allow themselves to take power without any resistance.

This is just posture for your face. It's probably good for what it is, though I doubt it's the most efficient way. Also body posture is still more important for a good presentation and for your health. ofc this won't give you a prominent jaw or wide chin if your problem is bone deep, you only train your facial muscles to align your existing bones differently.

@@phillipanselmo8540 I'm not convinced that mewing doesn't tbh. Of course people who voice train don't think that they're molding their throats into new shapes, they are aware of it being all about simply training the muscles and enforcing new habits, while people that mew seem to be under the impression that they're literally shaping their bones. But that difference aside, it might work all the same, just teaching your muscles a new behavior that they eventually do on their own. For example, I used to hate my smile, it looked too weirdly wide and toothy to me, and at some point I started consciously controlling it to be a little narrower and tightening the corners of the lips to have those cute dimples form. A couple years later and my mouth got completely used to it, just happens naturally every time I smile. Obviously I don't believe that I changed my lips or bone structure or anything, it's simply a habit and better facial muscles control that effectively totally transformed my expressions.
