Gracias, Bendeciones

Hi sir, can you do a tutorial on grip pressure, and angle of nib contact? Being a beginner, I'm using a Tachikawa holder, Gillot 170, Rhodia paper, Beth style script from Postmans knock. I'm having issues with upward curves on the capital Z, E, O, Q. The transition from fine to fill on a downward stroke is good, but my nib is catching on the upward stroke transitioning from the fill to thin lines. To remedy this I've rotated the angle of the nib contact point up slightly (moving my thumb up slightly on the holder) to glide over the paper. And I also lowered the holder angle by moving my thumb up on the grip - are those valid techniques?

Sorry Paul, you are right, the number of thirds don’t need to amount to 1!

How can you have four, thirds in a line of predetermined length? Has it something to do with the X height plus ascender being divided into 3, and again the X height plus descender being divided into 3? I think that would make the body rather large and the extenders too short. What have I missed?

1:57 With all due respect, I think it should be 1/4, 2/4, and 1/4 in proportion. Or if the 2/3 proportion is in the straight line, then each top/bottom should be 1/6.
@PAScribe6 жыл бұрын
Look at the more recent ones. The new system I have come up with is 1/6, 2/3, 1/6

Thanks for the clarification, it makes sense now. I'll try to check your most recent video.

@@PAScribe thats still quite tricky to work out - as in I wanna teach my kids this in class (or at least try it) and getting them to draw a random length line freehand, then work out thirds, keeping two, but then dividing the remaining one in half (to give you the first 6th) , then I guess drawing in an extension to the end of the line in order to calculate the last 6th...phew ! Thats what i have thought of so far, but isnt there an easier way ?
@PAScribe5 жыл бұрын
joe2grand I don’t really understand what you are trying to teach. This MY method. If you need something different you will need to develop it. This method works wonderfully for everyone I teach. You can’t teach kids Copperplate, they don’t have the dexterity for it.

@@PAScribe thanks for the reply and sorry for any confusion- What I meant was I just want to teach some year 2 about Universal line of beauty, and I'm not sure how to teach the method required to mark off a 1/6th, then 2/3rds and another 1/6th .....is there a simple way of judging these divisions by eye ?
