Very useful and informative video sis, but it would have been better If u did write the words/spelling on the screen :) the easiest one for me is the water... Not too sure the spelling.. Is it tuk? I have heard all of it, but not sure the spelling 😀, nice one.. And salute to ur husband coz he is learning ur language too.

Hi, I’m a kid who’s Cambodian but I was born in America and none of my family members talk to me Khmer while growing up. But, now that I’m older my family randomly decides to talk to me in Khmer and I have no idea what they are saying. So, I’ve been trying to learn on my own. Thanks for the basics!

Same thing happened to my polish friend when his family moved to Germany. Now he is learning so he can speak to all his cousins, ants, uncles etc. His parents wanted him to seem like any other German kid. For me the same i live in Holland and parents never taught me Farsi (Iranian). Crazy thing our parents all thought the same, that we should be regular local kids even though we probably didn't look it, haha. U know we should all be proud of where we're from. Worldly folks know what's up. Only knowing one culture is boring. Does your family make Lok Lak? khnhom sraleanh kampouchea. Lea sun haey.

@@daryushnadjafi6673 my family does make Lok Lak. also you’re right about only knowing one culture is boring. That’s why I’m trying to learn more about my culture and heritage, by listening to the stories my family tell and looking it up (obviously); since I don’t know much about my own culture. My family doesn’t teach me Khmer (language) instead they just yell and tease me about not knowing my own language.

@@leahthach96Soustei Leah. my family is the same, they make fun of me for not knowing Farsi,. I probably know more Khmer words anyway. There's an app Ligo and another called Ling u can try, it has Khmer as a language option to learn, i use it whenever I go to Cambodia to refresh my mind. Hmm yum, Lok Lak. I made a full length video of my good friend, who's a chef, to try and re-create the dish. even brought the right sauce straight from Phnom Penh, but somehow her's is always better. I can't wait to go back. The wife and me help two kids from this family we kind of adopted with education. Riti is a 2year old boy and Kanika is almost 11 and goes to English school.

@@leahthach96they screwed you. It’s easier to learn to languages if your parents teach you both from a very young age. That way you grow up speaking both Khmer and English fluently.

A very delightful video of useful things to say in Khmer. I had so much fun with Khmers because I learnt the Khmer words for young, half, never, I think, and I am sorry, my wife has all the money, which I learnt in an emergency situation. My wife's son and I were about to go up the 100 or so steps on Mount Kulen. I saw that all the way up on both sides of the steps there were hundreds of Khmers asking for money, so I asked my wife's son to tell me how I can say "Sorry, my wife has all the money"; he told me it's "Som doh, proh barn knyom mien loi." I've got to tell you that worked like a treat, the Khmers all loved it. PS. I didn't have any cash on me at the time. I lived in Siem Reap for 7 years.
