I'm here to share about my field because I enjoy it so much. What is a L&D role and what does it look like in Tech? In this video I'll share with you what this field's scope is and why this role exists, as well as breaking down some of the related roles you can find at tech companies.

I sometimes really dream about working in tech, I feel like there are so many different opportunities and some of the organisations are just huge, so it feels like the overall impact on the industry and the market can be great😀

Hi Sakura! I found this video so helpful. I'm considering a pivot into L&D and I am so appreciative at how you broke down the different types of roles within L&D. I didn't know it then but I was doing L&D work at nonprofits I worked at in the past. I am utilizing a lot of my writing skills in my current work but I miss the people aspect! Once I do more field research, I can see myself looking for roles in smaller companies in and outside of tech, because as you put it, I might feel limited in a role where I'm only doing training coordination. Can't wait to review your other videos!

I’m so glad this was helpful :) and that’s great! It seems you already have a solid foundation so I’m sure you’ll be able to find the right role for you. And definitely recommend being open to other than tech industry, we can learn anywhere

Thank you for sharing your experiences. A quick question: Do L&D professionals deliver the lectures themselves or the coordinate and seek out a facilitator to deliver the lectures?

Great Video! I been an instructor for a long time and am considering transitioning into L&D. I been considering Instructional Design but there seems to be a big learning curve to learning all the necessary tools. I live in the SF Bay Area, CA. I have been looking into L&D roles here for quite sometime and it seems they are saturated with applicants or there are too many requirements. I have some tech skills where I got familiar with the Articulate ecosystem of apps, like Storyline and 360, Vyond, etc. but am not an expert. Also, as an instructor I have a lot of transferrable skills. Perhaps you can give me some input on what industries I can consider seeking these roles and also what areas I can consider in L&D in addition to what you mentioned in this video? Thanks.

I’m excited for you to want to pivot to L&D :) I think definitely already having experience with LMS and elearning design platforms (we used Articulate at my previous company), as well as your transferable skills definitely gives you a leg up especially in Instructional Design. Like I mentioned in the video I think breaking into tech directly as entry level L&D is difficult, but I’ve seen many of my colleagues come from many different industries - airline/travel, retail, and a lot of folks also from vendor / BPO sides. You definitely sound like you’re on the right track!

Hi there! Thank you so much for making this video. It's super helpful! If I'm interested in a Program Manager role within L&D, what job titles should I be searching for so that I'm not ending up with results outside of the L&D space?

Also, for someone who doesn't think of themselves as particularly "creative," do you think a Program Manager role would be the best fit?
@Sakurambo
@Sakurambo Жыл бұрын
@@erinmcraebroberg6198 Hey Erin, glad to hear it was helpful! and great question. I think Program management itself is definitely a key word, but some to specifically look out for would be "L&D program manager," "L&D Programs," "talent development program manager," "L&D consultant." Definitely just make sure to add L&D or Learning and Development and you should be fine. As for your second question -- program management means a lot of different things at each company, so getting to understand that role you're applying to is probably most important in thinking about fit. But personally, I think Program managers are strategic, goal/action oriented, and business-minded folks who can understand the bottom line, so I don't think being particularly creative is a must have IMHO. Hope it helps :)
