Till 46:46 only the foundations are being laid. At 45:45 GM Vidit asked *Why is Self-discipline so tough* The actually needful stuff starts at 47:55 {Here are my timestamps along with my notes for this lecture} • Limbic system(peeche wala) is the bachha , it's the reason of distractions. •PFC (aage wala) has 2 parts- OFC (orbital FC) and Medial PFC 49:10 Medial PFC resp for Motivation, OFC defines what's not appropriate/inappropriate in the society. •OFC not imp for the disc •limbic system bolega "chahiye" aur Medial PFC literally defines what we must do. So our goals are stored here in Medial PFC but limbic is the problem to achieve goals. 53:19 DLPFC resp for RESPONCE INHIBITION, ye hi rokenge limbic ka raj hone se. Stronger the Dlpfc the stronger is our capability to say no to limbic's demands, like mujhe abhi khana hai, mobile wo check krna hai etc. 58:46 DLPFC helps us to formulate plans. MEDIAL PFC batadega chahte kya hain, but pura hisaab ki 11 din hain test aa raha hai, 1 din me itta krna hai, itte ghante padhna hoga and all. 58:59 Dlpfc makes Makes Multitasking possible, if not for it, we won't be able to take up the major task again after loosing focus. •Alcohol attacks DLPFC, so the response inhibition is lost,ab jo man me aaega bol dega. 1:01:44 diag of how Dlpfc works 1:04:00 If dlpfc is strong, then let's say call aya while studying, only some focus will be lost, and getting back would be easier. 1:05:59 Dlpfc ≈ Willpower Stringer the Dlpfc higher the Willpower. 1:06:48 Thanks to Vidit they talked about Meditation. •when we meditate and we bring 'back the attention to the breath' it's the Dlpfc which is literally doing it, Dlpfc brings the attention back to the part breathing is involved with 1:08:52 Vidit's experience with Meditation is so relatable.(asks how does this strengthen the dlpfc) • experience basically-it gets easier over time to get back. •question basically -easy kaise hojata hai, iow, dlpfc strong hua hai, but, actually hua kya hai to jo strong hua ⭐1:09:49 Ans-the "coming back" while meditating is itself the forming of a neural connection, everytime we do that successfully, 1 connection made. And the more times we do it (i.e win over distractions, the more neural connections are made and the easier it becomes to keep working lagatar without breaks (except those that need rest) (I mean distraction wali breaks) 1:10:32 This neural network (a bunch of neural connections) is basically what muscle memory is. ⭐1:19:09 medicine me jo itni padhai hai, it's actually important to build strong neural networks for better diagnosis of diseases, you see more the data to compute from (padhe hue symptoms) the better the diagnosis. ⭐1:19:45 we can train our dlpfc to be happy (probably by being more happy and ..idk) •so maybe we can also train ourselves to be sad (man it's so amazing) 1:33:35 social media imprisonment 1:41:00 How to discipline (other than meditation to train the dlpfc) •Scheduling (also making a plan) •remove all the distractions (Idk man)• 1:46:00 keep switching between 2 subject as when the attention starts to drop, reason being when we start to get bored our attention level starts to drop. •change your self identity to a disciplined person.

Summary: 0. Limbic System: Pleasure or Pain, Wants 1. OFC: Who do I identify myself with? Log Kya Kahenge? 2. DLPFC: Response Inhibition Discipline: OFC: System Discipline DLPFC: Self Discipline Either of the two discipline has to be present to prevent chaos OFC: School Timings, Military Training etc DLFPC: Self Control (Marshmallow Test) OFC Discipline (System Discipline is like DLPFC has outsourced its workload, always good to have if they align with our interests) OFC: Environment Design in such a way that you don't have to exhaust your muscle i.e. Willpower DLPFC. "OFC and Limbic" is nicely connected so it is way easier to follow discipline if that is decided by society. So System Discipline is easier, more helpful. Like religion ke rules. DLPFC: Games like batata 1 2 3 4 batata... that is response inhibition of 5 Also DLPFC: Do it! Actual execution. DLPFC: Mindset Shift. If you are working and gets a disturbing phone call, how easily you can let go and come back to your studies is DLPFC strength will decide. So this way Multitasking and mindset shifts. Again in a certain way it is a response inhibition of distraction and response execution of work. Seems like you got weak DLPFC? Do all the activities to strengthen it by self denial. Like meditation and letting go desires, stoicism. If today it is difficult to let go, its a good sign to practice it more. And once you practice, tomorrow will be easier thanks to neuroplasticity. Children are disciplined to train their DLPFC. For example, I don't set password to my laptop and my child can play video games at any time. No Discipline so far. If I hide laptop and now...System Discipline is established. If my child doesn't have urge, no problem so far and that is ultimate goal. But it will have someday and then when child has to force let go this urge or goes ahead and forgets untill next urge kicks in: there you go, you trained DLPFC. Simplest Takeaway: System Discipline (OFC): Outsource discipline to OFC by designing environment because it is easier said discipline. Main Man (DLPFC): Response Inhibition. Practice more self denial for easier self discipline tomorrow. Door ka soch chote

@Ishi GP chess players also need to have fixed schedule. They also have to practice their openings. They have to try each thing continuously. They face failures. They also stumble. They have a bad day. They feel the need to improve. They too have a schedule to work on. From a broader perspective they aren't much different from a usual athlete. Even though you are correct from one perspective, you can't just undermine the other person's opinion and perspective. 👍😬

11:45 things which happens instinctively 58:58 dlpfc can switch btw tasks it tells u like when u focus on unimportant task that this task is not imp do the imp one now... 1:19:11 pattern recognition in medicine 1:19:45 we can train ourselves to be happy by dlpfc Society rules are only useful when you are going to do bad things (like harming someone).it's not useful in ur person life.we gets punished when we do harmful jobs ...but when let's say i choose a career which people don't like then they also punished me by their talks but the intensity is too low.we can outsource discipline to society by what they think. 1:33:35 dopamine effect of insta . always use it in the end bcz it gives u so many dopamine if u use it in a start ur expectations of dopamine for a day is way higher and u will feel miserable.. Chaos of bubble 1:39:58 use every part of ur brain dlpfc, ofc all utilise all to get optimum o/p. Change ur identity like i am this type of person 2:04:01 dlpfc training through loop .. self denial loop

Thank you so much for this. I have been search about this topic from a long time but all the content that is available is philosiphical in nature. There was many things helping in this stream. 1) we all are dealing with same issue even a neurologist, a chess player and others. 2) Personally i struggled with ,"why can't i be in discipline for more than 5 days in a raw and now i know. So many ppl have specific questions that got answered. 3) Then obviously the solution part. Which is interested because there is no exact solution, there are hacks only. For me when it comes to consistency in exercising, hack that works is personal trainer. I have yoga teacher which is inexpensive and i show up everyday for yoga. Here is some suggestion. Another topic that i have struggled with is SOCIAL MEDIA. Can you do a intreactive session on that as well? We need hacks for that.

Sid which part of the brain is responsible for linking the same pattern to different events ?? This is from where creativity comes ryt ? Is it conscious distraction comes in to picture ? Or is it only distraction and we assign value to it or we are not able to find the meaning to other things but some distractions are limbic driven and some are solely pfc in nature . And what actually are distractions as they play a major role in this learning surviving process !! Please answer or discussion in future streams And thanks for creating such a lovely community!! Edit: Is this because pfc is energy consuming and limbic goes on like your heart muscles Can we callibrate it ??

Summary points • Discipline takes from chaos to order. • discipline - have some Have to(s) Visualization - actions are the car and discipline is the Driver which will take to us to the destination. Discussion on this visualization:actions to him karenge hi jab bhi hum work karenge, but it's more about the Driver's efficiency (quality of discipline) that how much work will be towards the goal (or how much work we would be able to do towards the destination without getting distracted or moving away the path we must have) Therefore: Better the discipline (driver) faster we reach the goal(destination) while we are assuming that the action is constantly happening (the car is moving) which itself would need the driver (so we now know that it's only the discipline which will decide whether we reach our goal)
