Some more pronunciation tips for y'all: -dutch "u" and "uu" sounds are sounds that your lips round for. In English we have the sound "goose", where when we pronounce "oo" we round our lips. Dutch "u" and "uu" are approximately Dutch "i" and "ii" sounds rounded respectively -Dutch "g" sound (Northern side) is pronounced at the back of your throat, near a "k". It's what I (without linguistic jargon) call "fluid", which causes friction. With the "k" sound it's abrupt. "k". But with the dutch "g" sound you can drag it. "gggggg". If you drag "k", it would actually sound like "kgggg" with something similar to the Dutch g trailing behind. -Something I've noticed with the video is that "v" and "z" at the beginning of words sound like "f" "s". Like the "vaag" example, "v" sounds basically exactly like "f". "z" in the middle of the word still sounds like English "z" though. "puzzel".
@cutecommie5 жыл бұрын
I can't recommend linguistic jargon enough, if you want to learn languages. You wouldn't teach someobody calculus if they don't know the arithmetic symbols (++-÷=).

Maybe you could make a video on different regions of the Netherlands, too!

Als de stam eindigt op de -t, -x, -k, -f, -s, -ch of -p, krijgt het voltooid een -t. Zo nee, dan krijgt het een -d.

6:05 here's some random and useless info: what you're referring to are called voiced labial plosives/bilabial stops and voiced fricatives... Just letting you know because I learned this in choir and this is literally the first time it's ever been relevant anywhere else.
@haiironosora97145 жыл бұрын
This is actually not random and very relevant. Considering this is a video on pronunciation, all sounds and word pronunciations should be sprinkled with IPA as well as their English counterparts, so everyone can understand. FluentForever made a great video on Dutch pronunciation.
@warbossgegguz6795 жыл бұрын
@@haiironosora9714 it's relevant, but in a way that's so technical that it matters to basically no one. Hence why I made a joke about it. The way she explained it was fine and actually more to the point than using jargon that would just need to be explained on its own. This info was barely relevant to me when I was being trained vocally, let alone daily life.
@haiironosora97145 жыл бұрын
@@warbossgegguz679 You're completely right, they are too technical and not widely known, they still offer a objective explanation by giving the manner and place of articulation, doesn't mean they should replace the explanations. For example: Say she were to tell how to pronounce 'ch' in Dutch. She could present it's description, symbol (voiceless velar fricative, [x]) sagittal view, and use in a word (acht, [ɑxt]); while also giving the explanation (sound made in the throat where k is made, should sound like h). This way people who get what these terms mean can instantly pick up on them, while those who don't can safely rely on the explanation. Same could be done with a vowel (uu, /y(ː)/, /aːˈzyːr/)/(kinda has a "i" sound but with lips rounded). She still did a great job though. Edit: I don't expect her to know all those terms and stuffs, so thinking about it now asking all that stuff maybe's a bit too much

@AnimilesYT5 жыл бұрын
@@Satou-san420 Well, language is constantly evolving, and pronounciations change over time. I think "puzzel" used to be the right pronounciation, but now "puzel" is also right. If people pronounce something in different ways, then both ways can be used. Maybe one isn't technically correct, but everybody will still understand you, which is what language is made for :)

Haha. As an American I must admit that my knowledge of cities in the Netherlands is not great. Of course Amsterdam is the most well known. If I had to list more that I know they are: Enschede, Rotterdam and Haarlem.
