I've been working on the solo and have listened to the song for so long and have never really been able to think about it without overloading my brain. This is absolutely the most comprehensive analysis of this song I have ever seen. Subscribed!

Could you do a breakdown like this on Earth Tones by Grover? BJ is playing on a magical level. I've been attempting the inversions for 30 years but just can't get Bob's spacings right. And further, that (Hard Day's Nightesque mystery chord) that Bob plays at 6:05 in Earth Tones . You can settle a bet.

@@weeklypiano I would be happy to Venmo you for a vid...Not sure how to bid for it. Have no clue what something like this would cost. I wouldnt want to insult you given you've helped me quite a bit over the years. Im with helping you create content. I can honestly say every keyboardist I grew up with knows about and has subbed you due to my excitement about your content along with Lot2learn.
@weeklypiano3 жыл бұрын
Hey Pete, I really appreciate that. If you wouldn't mind, I'd love to test out the WeeBID functionality rather than do venmo. The idea is that you can bid any amount that you want, and then you can bring friends in to also ask questions and bid on the ones they want answered. The bid is only committed when I actually answer a question, so no money is lost on those that don't get answered. My hope is that I get a bunch of awesome questions from different people, rather than just one-off exchanges. I'd also love your feedback on that whole concept, and any problems or critiques you can see in the model.

Greg, at 2:08 mins, sounds like you're saying B minor but you're playing a Bb minor 9th. Just wanted to let you know - maybe I misheard. But this video corrects the changes from the Sher chart. Thanks
@KendrickCreates Жыл бұрын
Awesome demonstration, but there's some clarity I can provide in regards to jazz theory standardization. You're sonically correct, and as we all work towards a common communication method, perhaps others will find the following useful. There's no such thing as a #5 on a dominant chord. 5ths are perfect, and since you can't have more than one chord member per chord, a #5 would prevent a nat 5 or b5 (alt). That's why we spell it #11 b13. You can simplify the scale you're playing at 3:00 as A diminished, which is half step, whole step, h, w, h, w, etc. This is not an uncommon scale to use on a fully altered Dom. So after C-, you've got a ii-(sus)V to Ab, but deceptive to Asus. Then another ii-(more stuff instead of V) to E-. All those "chords" are subservient to the melody and bass melodic line, I agree. Maybe someone smarter than us can explain it better. Thanks for the video. This helped me a ton!
@RageOfDankology Жыл бұрын
This is incorrect... You can have #5 on a dominant chord, it's called augmented.
@KendrickCreates Жыл бұрын
@@RageOfDankology the 7th of an aug chord is a M7. It would also preclude you from using a #11. What you meant to say is "I agree, it's called a b13." See? 1-3-5-7-11-13, they all play well together. And remember folks, a 5th is perfect.

Hi My Friend Greg Spero, after watching all your giant Steps Tutorials, practicing recordings on KZbin, I took a few of your idea's to heart and tried to wresttle with them..This was the result(also because I think Giant Steps is a sterile and mathematical composition that lacks the bow of tension that normal compositions tend to have in a way because it is too much paterns i tried to break with that and make it more melodic...: a compsition 32 bars built upon Coltrane changes, but drastically changed, Form: A1 A2 B here follows the chords: 1Bmaj7 -D7 IGmaj7 F--#dim-- IEbmaj7 - Cm7b5 D7#9(F# is melodie) I4 Ebmaj7 D7 Gmaj7 5 F#7#5 D7 IEbmaj7 D7+5 Gmaj7 I6Gm7 C7 Cm7 F7 I7Bbmaj7 G#7#11 IG7 F#7 II(A2) Bmaj7 F#7+5 Gmaj7 F--#dim-- IEm7 A13 IC--#m7b5-- F#7-13 IAm7 D7 IBm7 E7Gm7 C7I Em7b5 A7sus4 Cm7b5 F13 I Bbmaj7 break on 5th count three tones pick up F G A II18(B-Part starts:)Fm7 Bb13 I19 Ebmaj7 (Bbmeldoie) (Bbm7) IAm7b5-11 Cm7b5-9 d7#9 IGmaj7 b7#9 I Emaj7 Gmaj7#11 F#7+5 ICmaj7 Em7 A Bb A G meldoie slur IAmaj7#11 Abm711 Gm711 I--sus lick I Gm7- C7 I Cm7 F13 IBbmaj7 G7#9 I Cm7 F13 i IEbm7 Ab7 IC#79 f# 13 I Ebm7 Ab7 C#m7 f#7 : II This is the Chord-Progression Fully melodie follows...

This is great thank you. One thing I always hear differently is does that Bb minor 7 actually have a Gb (flat 6) in the left instead of an Ab (7th) ? Making it more of a Gn major 7 (add #4)/Bb. I think that’s what he is playing.

What I like of your lessons is that you teach on a mature level, and not explaining for the million time what a root or a tonic is, Also I did look to this Tune in the past and consider it as the most difficult till now, i did snuffell a bit on Dolphin's Dance Soon my Prince will come moment;s notice Lazy bird Stablemates Humpty Dumpty, those are Tunes I worked on, maybe you could do some films over those Tunes>
