After almost a year of having shorter hair, it's about time I learned how to style it in a way that makes me love this length. I do like this length on me, but I've learned it's not a wash-and-go style. I'm going to try to dry and style my hair two ways: curly and straight, so that it can look good from wash to wash.

The Revlon One Step would be a good option for you (the small one) in case the whole round brush + blowdryer thing isn't your thing, long-term. I found blowdrying that way very hard, personally and only after I got my Revlon, was I finally able to properly and regularly style my layered bob. It's still not my favorite thing to do in the world, exactly, but I get consistently good results fairly quickly, which makes it less frustrating, at least. Blowdrying that way regularly will affect your curl pattern, though. At least, that's my experience. I used to do the curly girl method for a while and had slightly more pronounced curls then you (although this might be a matter of products used), but when I tried my old styling routine again, a while ago, I barely got soft waves. Maybe the old 'loose ringlets in between waves' pattern would come back after a while...but switching back and forth between the two probably isn't an option for type 2 girls.

I've been trying the curly girl method for about a year now. My hair is pretty wavy (2a or 2b) and I get the best results if I do a few specific things. I commit to the wavy style from when I start washing my hair. I do the whole routine with my head upside down. I wash, condition, and apply product to it bent over the bath. Squish the conditioner in, comb through, rinse out, squish again. Squeeze out the excess water and squish in a crap tonne of gel, plop, leave for 20 minutes while I do my makeup. Turn head upside down, remove towel, diffuse upside down. When squishing I do it very slowly and hold it in the scrunched position for a few seconds each time. I scrunch right up to the root. I have also given up brushing my dry hair completely. I just comb it through when I'm dispersing the conditioner and that's the only time a brush or comb touches my hair. I use a little argan oil between wash days if it's a little too frizzy. Of course this is my own experience and my hair is reasonably thick. I think if you want to use the curly girl method you need to do it often so you can see what products and techniques work for your hair.

The longest I ever tried the full on curly girl method was for two months straight, but the results I got just really weren't worth all the extra effort. My hair didn't get any curlier or wavier than it does when I just do this once, and I didn't like my hair semi-wavy more than when it's straight/wash-and-go. I do like playing around with the drying technique every now and then though to see what waves I can bring up with different products. Gel seems to give the best results but mousse is easiest to use!

@@Loepsie it is a lot of bother alright! I'd say the one thing you could change from what you do in this video is to diffuse with your head upside down, that is if you are looking for more volume at the root.
@kitty_s23456
@kitty_s23456 Жыл бұрын
@@LornaKelso hi. I do the upside down drying technique too. Though on most days, I dry my hair with a fan (not a hair dryer). My hair is kinda like @Loepsie's in the straight hair demo (mine is 1B or 1C, thick strands). I don't use mousse or hair products after showering/ washing my hair. My hair is a lil longer than a chin length bob & has subtle layers - my upside-down drying & fan technique works, plus I avoid too much heat on my hair.

Hey Lucy! Great video. I have pretty similar length of bangs and mine are curtain too; after I blow dry my bangs I put them in Velcro rollers on top of my head just to set the volume and then afterwards I’ll spray a flexible hairspray to set the direction I want them to go in. Otherwise great job! 😊
@teddyxcore

i would grow it out a little longer so it stops flipping at your shoulders and do longer curtain bangs with light long layering and just use hair dryer or big rollers to get the curtain bags to flip back and give volume to ends

I needed to get a smaller round brush for my bangs so they would grip properly. (Which is the main problem that I have with my blowdry brush. It's the Revlon One Step and even though it does a great job on. The rest of my hair, I always need to go over my bangs with a flat iron because it doesn't have attachments.)

I recently tried the curly girl method because I was inspired by you, and I think I have type 2a hair. I used curl creme and mousse, and my hair would form a wave pattern when wet, and when I scrunched the products in, but the waves would drop the next morning and be very uneven. I was air drying and scrunching out the crunch when dry before bed. I just wasn't happy with the results, so I went back to blow drying straight and just air drying. When I air dry, I get a little wave, but not much.

After your hair is like 80-90% dry, make 2 loose rope braids and let it dry completely. It gives a very natural looking subtle wave if your hair isn't short

I think you need a professional stylist to sculpt your hair to give you well placed layers. The ends need to be cut on a diagonal so the top layer is slightly shorter. That will make your hair fall right and have more movement and definition. Yes I realize the focus or feature here is the blow dryer. But home hair cutting following KZbin isn’t an exact science and it needs some refining. I have a tymo straightener. It works great and was much cheaper than other similar devices. It’s like a hot comb that you pass through your hair like a brush. They seem to be a good alternative brand that’s a step up from typical store brands like revlon or conair

@@Loepsie oh gee. Sorry, I thought this was the growout from your at home cut! But still, go back and get some gentle subtle layers. It will really help “tame” that flip and give your hair more movement, whether straight or wavy.

Like the curly girl method and the long hair no heat methods you used to do. I use it on the odd occasion I shower in the mornings though and it’s great. In the same vain I loved the spin curl dryer but I don’t think they make that anymore 😂

You look really nice in both but I think you could improve with just simple changes. My hair are similar in length and pattern to yours so I can tell you what helped me. For the weavy style it works better on already dry hair (2nd or 3rd day after washday). I wet the ends a lot more, they need to drip. Then I apply the mousse or a gel (without scrunching), I use the finger coil technique (it does miralces on straigh-weavy hairs) and then I scruch with a towel and blowdry them. The hairs come out a lot more weavy and tidy because the weavy pattern starts at half of the lenght and all the hair strands are kept together by the finger coil. For the 90's blowdry I use to pin the already dried sections with bobbypins making curls, so they cool down keeping the shape and they last a lot longer. For this blowdry I foud a tutorial that really works, I can link it down here if you want. I hope it helped 😊

I love your hair! As a cosmetology student I was really impressed with how well you use the blow dryer, you would be amazed at how many people start school not knowing the proper way. A couple of tips you hold the brush in your dominate hand and thr blowdryer in your non dominate hand. Also preblowdrying your hair and getting a lot of the moisture out ahead of time is what we are taught in school to make it easier when doing a style. Blow dry your hair with just your fingers to get the excess moisture first, and then when about 80% dry go back and style with the brush.

Hi. I don’t mean this as mean or harsh but constructive advice. I have cut my own hair because I had my hair ruined once so I learned to cut and texturize my own hair. First off you cut a lob/bob. When you cut it you did not add texture or take weight off the bottom. You also did not angle your lob which takes a lot of skill. My advice to you is watch copious vids on how to DIY or if you have a person you can trust that is a stylist have them recut your hair taking an inch to an inch and half off, texturing it and eliminating weight off the bottom. Your hair will continue to look unattractive the way it is now - I am referring to the straight style- the curly is cute but I still would see a stylist to correct your cut so it grows in a way you can deal with it and also feel good about. 🤗

@ElizabethNK24

Oh my gosh. I wish I could fix it for you. Watch some diy vids on lobs and make sure they include texturizing and taking weight off the bottom. Have your mirrors surround you so you can see your hair in back or have your husband help. You are capable of fixing it yourself. The problem sometimes is stylists just do whatever they want and do not care about your concerns. Why I cut my own hair and btw I wear a lob! Good luck! 💙💙
