One of the many things I noticed about when I first started listening to them in 2019 is I was shocked to learn that all 7 members had solo songs on BTS albums and they all get to perform solo during their concerts too. And that every member gets a part on songs with all 7 members on them. I later discovered the rap line all had solo mixtapes too. The reason why this stood out to me is because with so many groups there is 1 maybe 2 members that are the "stars" of the group who do most of the vocals and the other members seem more like backup vocals or dancers. The 7 members of BTS all have the opportunity to show their own style and sound separate from BTS and aren't obligated to do everything as a group. And there is not 1 hint of ego or jealousy, they truly are happy for each other's successes. With so many groups I feel part of the reason why they don't last is because they want to do music on their own that's more personal and it would be difficult to balance a group with solo releases so they just end up going solo. I think that's why "boy bands" often don't get looked at serious music artists because maybe they feel the music isn't as deep or personal. I'm really hoping their solos before military enlistment expose more people to BTS who are hesitant to like them or check out their music because they are a "boy band" because I think people are much more open to listen to soloists than a group. Also keep in mind up until recently they all lived together too and maybe there was only a few days a year where they wouldn't see each other. It's only these past few months where there are really getting to live alone and do things without the other members, but it's also good for them to discover who they are separate from BTS.

I’m sure each member has their own strengths and weaknesses that can be supported by another member and their individual strengths can really shine through giving everyone their own space. Combining all those strengths into one unit (BTS) will raise everyone to new levels. They gained strength and unity from hardships and with the proper guidance they were given they are exactly where they deserve to be.

When BTS had debuted a year ago, they took a trip to Los Angeles, where they filmed a reality show called American Hustle Life, where they interacted with hip hop personalities such as Coolio and Waren G, as well as other instructors. In one of the episodes they were put into teams to do cleaning jobs on a yacht, a small airport, and a hotel; They received a payment for these tasks. Then they asked them to collect all the money to buy hamburgers and they took them to distribute them among the people who live on the street. This with the intention of teaching them to give back. While handing them out, the hosts explained to the people that they were a boy band from South Korea and asked them to give them some advice; among those tips was to stay humble. I am convinced that the teachings of that reality show left a lot of mark on the way of being of the boys. P.S. Sorry for my English, I'm not very good in that language and I help myself a little with the translator.

They look exhausted because they give their everything on stage. Their concerts are literally almost 3 hours of them singing, dancing, and running around the entire stage. In other vids you'll see them backstage with oxygen, just utterly spent. But they come right back out and you would never know. I'm older ARMY and I've been to a lot of concerts over the years. The BTS fan made videos by folks like XCeleste, Taylor, and Anessa (who has a 21 episode Rise of Bangtan series everyone will bombard you to watch) are honestly of or better quality than Netflix series. Thank you for watching this! Bang Si Hyuk is a genius but more importantly so kind and changed how idols and such bands are presented. The depth and authenticity is crazy, the depth of their music is also unusual for “pop”. As much as we love their music we live tenor personalities and their relationship to each other. FYI the fights they’ve shared with us are both authentic and hilarious sometimes (you’ll hear over time that the two closest Jimin and V had an epic fight over dumplings, yes the food, got so emotional they didn’t talk for a week or two got drunk and wrote not one but two songs inspired by the incident). They showed in one documentary that V and Jin had an argument about choreography before getting on stage how it caused tension and the discussion as a team afterwards it was very mature. They really role model amazing behavior we don’t see enough in this world of toxic celebrities. Enjoy your journey! Take your time don’t feel overwhelmed ask us as much as you like for help looking foreword to following along.

I know you have A LOT of content to get through (that is kinda why we call it a rabbit hole) but as others have said we don't mind when you pause to give your insights on a vid or even go back a bit for something you may have missed. I am 39 YO and have been blessed to be ARMY since 2015 so I have seen a lot of stuff leading up to their debut in the US and have gone back through their content numerous times. I am always happy to find new reactors that are just getting into BTS but it can def be overwhelming. I echo the sentiments to go at your own pace. BTS found me at a point in my life when I needed them (and a lot of ARMY who have been touched by their messages will say the same) and I love to see people start out on the journey. There will be times you find a song you just vibe with and there will even be times you find a song that touches you deep in your soul due to the message, the relevance to something you are going through at the time, or just the genuine sentimentality from the lyrics. We love to see those moments too so don't be afraid to share those. I love your genuine respect and love to find out about our boys! They are definitely amazing human beings who love us as a fandom as much if not more than we love them. I also can't wait to see if you have a bias (a particular member you just connect with due to personality or whatever) or if you are what we call OT7 which means you support all the boys equally! I used to have a bias but have recently become OT7 myself! As others have said as well we are def here if you need some clarification but feel free to give your own specific take. Bang Shi Hyuk is not married, has no children, but he raised BTS like they were his own kids. I mean, when he signed them, Jungkook was 13 years old. Jin was 20. And everyone else was In between. He was the one at first (now they do it on their own) who made sure that they gave back to the community. He had them take food to elderly people who were living alone. When there was a national tragedy in South Korea that was partly caused by government corruption, he took BTS personally around to visit all the families of the victims to offer comfort and condolences to those who had lost their children. Later they released the song, Spring Day, the music video for which contains a lot of symbolism having to do with the tragedy as well as subtle criticisms of the government. (When you eventually get to Spring Day make sure to watch the explanation video so that you catch all of those.) The point is that Bang Shi Hyuk molded BTS into who they are today, although I believe they would have become good people no matter what, but there are a lot of things that it doesn’t occur to teenage boys to do, that Bang Shi Hyuk made sure that they did.

Thank you for being so sincere in your reactions, it’s so refreshing to see. You mentioned not knowing whether to watch in chronological order or not and while I don’t mind what you choose to do, I thought I’d put together a bit of a simplified guide to their albums so it wouldn’t feel as overwhelming. You are under no obligation to read this. Feel free to skip this. *SCHOOL TRILOGY:* 2 Cool 4 Skool (2013), O!Rul8,2? (2013), Skool Luv Affair (2014), Dark & Wild (2014) Genre: 90’s Hip Hop type vibe Theme: Very directed at young people, encouraging them to find their own dream and not conform to the expectations of the adults around them. There’s criticism on Korea’s education system but also a couple schoolboy crush songs. There’s a lot of dark clothes and overdone masculinity, but it’s endearing because it reflects how young they were and shows how much they’ve matured over the years. Songs to react to (in order): No More Dream -> We Are Bulletproof Pt.2 -> N.O. -> Danger -> War of Hormone *YOUTH TRILOGY:* The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt.1 (2015), The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt.2 (2015), The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever (2016) Genre: R&B pop electro ballad type.. thing. I’m not sure but the best word is ‘refreshing’. Theme: Oh boy. Where do I start. The youth trilogy completely gets rid of the dark clothes and eyeliner and strips everything back to such a raw and gritty degree it’ll make you cry. It’s coming of age and brotherhood but also the struggle to survive, loneliness, depression. It’s about being so aware of the passage of time that even a good moment is tainted because you’re so terrified of losing it. Sorry, I’m very attached to this era. Warning: A LOT of trigger warnings in the first three videos, including references to suicide, depression, murder, child abuse, substance abuse, etc. MV’s to watch (in order): I NEED U -> RUN -> Butterfly + Save Me -> Dope -> Fire Note: This trilogy is the start of the fictional storyline mentioned called the Bangtan Universe. They all act as characters with their own backstories and roles. You were right about the avengers thing because this storyline is loaded, with content coming from songs, music videos, webtoons, notebooks included in albums, extended short films.. there’s a lot. However, as a new ARMY, I don’t recommend you get into it just yet, and a lot of old ARMY still haven’t gotten into it and enjoy the content without that layer of the BU. I’ll update the rest if you think it might be useful. Once again, thank you for your sincere and open approach in approaching the band, I’m looking forward to your future reactions.

If you are interested (it is okay if you don’t) but here are some other introduction videos that are wonderful too. I personally like watching all sorts of different ones because I always learn something new not matter what: -The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Goes On by Rise Sqaud 2022 update (to shows the rise of BTS but focuses more on their successful story. It does help clarify about how they all came together. Granted it does have a few errors and things that aren’t my favorites but overall a really good video.) -The Rise of Bangtan series (it does up to like 26 episodes or something but starts off BTS pre-debut and works it’s way up. It talks about the Korean kpop scene and help explain some things and shows a little of why BTS are/were so different.) -BTS CRASH COURSE 2020 by Suga and Spice (it is a little out date but I think it shows some amazing and important things BTS have said about their album and their idea of what kpop is. It does summarize what their albums are about up to 2020. It does miss like 3 BTS album but they can be explained by ARMY if you would like…) -BTS Hardships 2013-2021 by xceleste (she explain some of their hardships. It is sad but the ones she talks about are just a sliver of what they have gone though) -BTS vs Kpop a video essay by bby gang -boracity magazine also has some really good videos of you want to check them out sometime. I know you are going to react to Taylor Nakamoto’s guide. I wanted to point out that she goes in order of who came into BTS. Also if you pay attention she also explain how each member was recruited by Bighit…(pls feel free to pause and discuss…honestly I personally, I would prefer it if you just paused and discuss whatever comes to mind right then and their so you don’t miss anything but so you can also you get out everything you want to say…HOWEVER YOU do You) Anyways sorry for this very long comment and thank you for reacting and being open minded .

21:04 Yes every ARMY 100% agree with you about BangPD. We love him by the way…we often say he is the 8th member of BTS…him and the people that of been with them from the beginning too are were people who had strong influence on them…They created an atmosphere that was about being true to yourself, your music, and to work hard…Now that Bighit is now Hybe I won’t deny that it doesn’t have it flaws but I agree that the company has always strived to be about the music and being true to themselves (the artist(s)). You don’t need a huge production of a MV or have the best looks or best dance moves. The focus is the music/art first then the rest comes later. BTS also have talked about how they use to fight all the time and didn’t get along at first but now they don’t really fight that much. If they do fight they know how to work it out with one another and work through it so I doesn’t come a problem for them in the future. BangPD is inspiring to teach them this. Jimin once said something along the lines once that he doesn’t think they will ever break up due to drama/fights because anytime their is one that night they discuss it and get over it together so it doesn’t become a problem for them in the future. Also they have amazing team work and know how to make decisions with one another for the best outcome. I recently read that for one of BTS’s cartoon things or game(they were apart of the whole creating process of it from beginning to end) but the company that was in charge of helping them was worried that they wouldn’t be able to make any decisions and take forever because their are seven different people but it wasn’t like that. They were able to discuss and come together to make the product they all wanted and the people were very surprised…I will also add that a lot of this has to do with RM’s leadership skills as well and not just BangPD though he had a huge influence. Sorry for long comment lol Edit: I also wanted to add that even with 1D (this isn’t any hate to them) but they never said they fought and made it look like everything was good between everyone when they were together (granted I think some of it has to do with the company m)…unlike BTS who have told us that yes they do fight but they have learned to resolve the fights so it doesn’t become an issue…

Thank you so so much for this video! Army is and always will be very happy with this videos. I just wanted to tell you that right now there are many fandoms that are trying to affect BTS by causing fights in comments, just to give a bad impression of the group to new reactors so please don't mind them, they are not armys. They just come to bts reactions to tell bad stuff or to ask for you to react to their favorite groups as well.
@ystrw
@ystrw Жыл бұрын
Yep; and this is (another reason) why genuine ARMYs flock to new reactors, to try and head off that unpleasantness. The K-pop arena is extremely competitive and one of the most common tactics people use is to try and drive away potential new fans from a rival. (I know you know that, Ally, I just want to toss it out there for Nick to be aware of. 💜)

Happy to stumble across your channel. Glad you watched this one as xCeleste is an amazing ARMY creator. Her BTS hardships and her This is BTS ARMY videos are also very good. This doesn't take away from other introduction videos like Taylor's who also has a good introduction video. There is no ONE video that holds everything, and even Taylor's video has some misinformation. It's hard to get everything into one video that isn't over 2 hours long. So, it's good to watch multiple introduction videos even though some fans seem to have an issue with it, but no worries, ARMY understands this and we'll watch all of the ones you choose to watch. I'd also like to say that if while watching a video, a thought or question comes to your mind- it's okay to pause the video and speak your mind or ask your question. ARMY prefers it this way, and we're willing to help you on your trip down the rabbit hole. You praised Bang PD/Bang Si-Hyuk for the upbringing in BTS and you are correct. Bang PD did a great job, one thing though that many people over-look or don't know about is that because his company at that time didn't have the money to implement basic things that companies usually provide- I.E. The typical K-pop Trainee program. It costs a lot of money to put idols through the trainee program. Money that Bang PD didn't have. He talked about it in multiple public talks- He didn't set a schedule for the members, he also didn't force them to do anything. He simply sat them and their managers down and gave them the run down of what needed to be done- It was up to the members to put in the effort and decide together what they needed to do, it was then up to them to execute those things. The only mandatory thing was attending school since most of them were still in school when they joined the company. I look forward to watching your Journey with BTS. There's a lot of content out there, so please, take your time and do not overwhelm yourself. It can be very overwhelming for newer ARMY and those just dipping their toes into the world of Bangtan X ARMY. Thank you for this though- Borahae (I purple you)💜

Oh, don't misunderstand, the 500,000 copies of Map of the Soul 7 (Feb 2020) physical album were just the US numbers. Remember they're not a US based artist and weren't getting proper promo and airplay in the US to help sales either. But the actual (global) preorder number for MotS7 was 4,2 million copies. And then we haven't even mentioned the BE album that came out in Nov 2020 which was only available in a 50+ dollar deluxe version with a 3+ million preorder. Loved your reaction btw! And please don't worry about pausing. It's so much info, I can understand you could use the breather once in a while too haha. I'm so curious what you're gonna think of songs like Black Swan, Fake Love, No More Dream (debut song from 2013), Spring Day, Blood Sweat and Tears, Baepsae, etc... Or maybe something like their Tiny Desk from 2020 or their Festa Room Live from 2021 would be a fun introduction to more of their music. Both have subtitles and give you a look at their personalities too!💜

Thanks for your thoughts on the video - some of my own reaction to your thoughts :) "Real boys, not groomed by the system": Ohlord you are correct sir! BSH is something of a saint in my view. He came up through one of the Big Three, JYP as a producer and left them to start his own company. I'm not hugely knowledgeable, but, while JYP as a company has received some criticism, BSH and JY Park himself seem to have had a good relationship and when BH was facing bankruptcy they received help from JYP. So, JYP has a right to some respect from ARMY too. BSH seems to have survived the big three system with some quite different ideas for how he wants to run a company. The big three seem to have modelled their business on a Japanese model which exerts high levels of control on artists, select them young and raw, train them hard, and manage them very closely, with a wide range of rules affecting every aspect of their behaviour. BSH wanted to "break" that system - or at least stretch it into a different shape and his vision was to choose the right individuals and support them, mentor them and give them artistic freedom. That is why BTS are here now. I read that he looked for talent and potential, yes, but at least AS important was their personality. He wanted people who were open to growing. In addition to that, his company was the first to even think about artist's mental health and to offer psychological counselling to trainees and artists. Most trainees live in fear of injury taking them out of the system, and are scared to disclose it even though they WILL receive treatment. BSH was the first to offer support for mental health issues - and that's one reason for BTS' openness on these matters, too. Suga went for counselling with his family - and I don't imagine that came naturally to his very traditional working class dad and mum - all the more wonderful that they engaged with it and him. Within the last year we heard about Jin, who was struggling with life, getting help from a counsellor at BSH's suggestion. This authentic transparency runs through everything BSH and BTS do His advice on conflict is also just simple and wise, and I could learn a lot from that too! Individualism is essential for people to work together and grow together. Korea is a very conformist society: there is enormous inhibition against speaking up, and yet BSH fostered it. Somehow he recognised that if someone is not able to be themselves, you will never have their whole commitment - and he needed that. So, just as you say - conflict was going to be inevitable - and he actually wanted it, so that they could learn to become themselves. His method for resolving it is wise too. There's no right way to resolve fights, but all those different personalities need to be active and involved. Non-ARMYs assume that BTS are all sweetness and light and are sceptical (rightly so) but ARMYs know they are not! We love them for the individuals they are, but we know their flaws (if not all of them) and we have seen the fights, and heard them talk about them afterwards too. The stories are often funny, but we can imagine the stress in those moments too. And there is no doubt that the fights have been and remain essential. They are what leads them to trust and rely on each other so deeply. They know all the warts and all the cracks and flaws, and know who they each are at their heart. Exhaustion: there are so many shots of BTS at their ebb, after strenuous performances, some with physios and some with oxygen being given. They are athletes, but not recognised as such. For em, none of it surprises me now. I only want them to push themselves enough for their own satisfaction and enjoyment and not get hurt. They have all the experience and now have the authority to decide with assurance what they can or cannot do. Despite all of the positives of BTS and the way their way of working has changed the Kpop industry for the better, they are still criticised and hated on. Some of that is definitely organised by the big management companies and is based on jealousy and their own inadequacy. It's a shame - for them, not for BTS, who are now so used to it either they don't care, or for them it's a good sign. The big companies are now using many of BTS' strategies to try to emulate their success, and that is working, but they will never get the scale. Xceleste points out that BTS "grew organically".That is very hard for big companies to allow They would need to stop controlling their artists and find individuals with the depth of talent and potential of RM and Suga, and that's hard. And they would need to give them time - BTS training was relatively short (Jimin was in training for less than a year I think) and they only really started to make it in Korea after about three years or so. Until then, they were doing just enough to avoid disbanding, and growing slowly. Big Three invest a lot of money which helps their acts get notice and sales, but they want a fast return, understandably. Mind you, their trainee contracts usually require the artist to repay the training costs (either out of earnings or after leaving) - BH contracts did not do that, which is perhaps even more remarkable. OK maybe you are still Baby ARMY, but we don;t have Generals, of any kind. We are all rank and file, bumbling along, learning from each other and grateful for what each of us bring to the party, and feeling good about BTS and ATMYs around us. Some of us can get defensive for BTS (I used to do that too) and people can find that hard to take. I get upset when "reactors" appear lazy and unwilling to research a subject at ALL before reacting to it because that results in what are often ill-informed, prejudiced reactions which have an agenda (to make themselves look a certain way) and I am not here for that - and most ARMYs feel the same. But if someone is honest (it's abs FINE to dislike BTS, once you've explored them openly - but it's highly unlikely!), willing to learn and prepared to be flooded with views without skewing their perspective, ARMY will support you, and will enjoy following your journey, with love.

I’ve been following them for a long long time (I’m talking around 2015) so I’m very aware with the hardships they were facing cause I was watching through it all, and with the plagiarism accusations too. I was there with the other veteran armys on an online war with this one other fandom that kept accusing bts of plagiarism cause they were having a school concept and that other group also had the school concept a year prior (as if no one else in history had ever use a school concept). I watched the award show online as soon as the video got uploaded on youtube and when I saw that Suga cried when they won their first grand prize I couldn’t help but cry with them. You can tell they took NOTHING for granted

It was the best-selling album of the year, both digitally and physically (fun fact; researching this album outsold Taylor Swift, who won Billboard's "Album of the Year" in 2020. And this make me sooo mad in that year haha)

25:58 I wanted to mention that the albums in the albums it does comes with their photocards, picture book, poster, etc. so it isn’t just the CD but it a very kpop thing to do (which only a few artist in the USA have done which is wild to be because you think they would do it more). It isn’t bundling because it isn’t like a fee add on. These things come with every album… (ARMY if you know how to explain better feel free)

About the individualism, BTS makes sure that their music and contents they put out is a group effort but EACH member has their own individual ideals and believes or what they put out in their music. Even before their hiatus ( a break from group activities to focus on their solo work- currently also for miltary enlistment as per the South Korean Government Norms ) they did have solo Albums and mix tapes. So if ur interested in reacting to their solo work I'll suggest u as a BABY ARMY react to their group songs first.
