"Forget Her" has an interesting story. It was initially planned to be on "Grace", and the record label loved it and even saw it as a possible first single. Jeff started to hate the song after that, since he felt it was too conventional in a sense and he didn't want to be seen as a "crooner". He even said "If I hear that song again I'll be sick". Ultimately he "convinced" the label to replace "Forget Her" with "So Real", which was written very late, after Michael Tighe joined the band and came up with the intro of that song. (this is from the "Dream Brothers" book)

Aerosmith very nearly did a cover too, apparently.

Maybe a year late to this video, but I do have another element to add to the story behind why it wasn't included. Rebecca Moore, the ex lover the song is about, Jeff had forgiven her, and didn't want to release a song in which he basically called her a who.. you know the rest of the letters!

Awesome. Definitely my favourite Jeff song too :) Yep it was released in 2004 with the "Legacy Edition" of the album :) Jeff never wanted it on Grace, in fact, he said that 'if I hear it again, I will throw up"

i gotta give it to you firstly before i watch anymore of this video, your vocals are outstanding. not attempting to be rude in any way to female artists, but I find a lot of modern day singers, even rock artists all sound so similar and can't break the mould with new and interesting vocal performances. as soon as you started it sounded so amazing, truly paying homage to your inspiration from buckley but also giving it your own flavour. keep this shit up, its fucking awesome.

See some folks writing that Jeff hated the song, which I respectfully don't believe was the case. He had written the song, as Mary has rightly intuited, in the midst of intense heartache, following a breakup. It was just too painful for him to sing and he didn't want people hearing it, loving it, and then calling out for it in his live shows. Easy to forget that he was only 23 or 24 when he wrote and recorded this.
@farewellnico70805 жыл бұрын
He was 29 actually

Farewell Nico It seems we are both mistaken (though I, more so)... Jeff was born November of 1967, and he passed in May of 1997, so he was 30. Far too young, any which way, to be sure.

Great video Mary, your beautiful voice is well suited to this song. You wondered aloud if you should keep a beat through the solo... my thought is only on the 2 and 4, not heavily either (or 4 and 10 if this song is written in 12/8), or perhaps only once per measure (2nd "beat" of each bar). I also love the extra bluesy chord you throw in up the neck, so tasty. Cant wait to hear your finished version 👍

Have you ever thought about using a Thumbpick? I use one 95% when I'm playing acoustic guitar since it gives me kind of the best of both worlds.
@watermelontreeofknowledge86825 жыл бұрын
A lot of the new Nashville guitarists are doing hybrid picking with a flat pick instead of the thumb pick. I personally prefer this approach so I can change the voicing mid-song. Just catch the pick between your fingers when you change back to soft strumming or thumb fingerpicking. You can also be more aggressive with your picking angle
