These videos in the Learning Netrunner series are some of the most entertaining videos featuring a tabletop game I have ever seen. The editing is incredibly useful, specifically the pictures of cards in the corners of the screen when they are referenced by one of the players. More so, I appreciate the fact that we are not shown or told the cards in the hands of the players, therefore capturing the feeling of the small mysteries of the game (can the runner break whatever that ice is?!). Additionally, the focus on showcasing the game with decks that are easy to obtain and affordable to make for a newcomer is fantastic. All in all, I'm very impressed by the quality of these videos. Finally, I appreciate that there is little or no mention of the pack subscription system or token sets in these videos. I understand and respect the fact that the channel exists to make the Team Covenant brand money, but for a viewer considering dropping the cash to enter into this game, the added pressure of purchasing into those extras could feel excessive and off-putting. I personally have considered token purchases in the past (specifically the Arkham set) but have never pulled the trigger as I couldn't justify the cost to myself versus other things in this hobby. However, the benefit of supporting the creation of these and other high quality videos from Team Covenant will get at least one purchase out of me this holiday season. Thanks guys!

At around 36:00, he only used three clicks on his turn instead of four. I assume it’s because he drew from his console ability and maybe confused that with a click? Team Covenant you do a great service to Netrunner with these videos. Just bought old core set to try casually and these videos are gold. The FFG tutorial is well made, but these videos of talking through the nuances is essential. I LOVED the captioned scripts outlining the timing structures (great font and graphic design). Subscribed. Love the quality of video and audio. Thoughtful production. What is the camera/audio setup? Noticed the portable recorder in the podcasts. I assume these are lavaliers plugged direct in to a portable recorder?

Just getting started with Netrunner and your videos are a big help to understanding how things work, thanks. Having difficulty with "Bad Publicity". According to the rules each point of Badpub gives the runner 1 credit over and above their credit pool to use during a run. Unspent Badpub credits return to the bank at the end of the run. Does this mean that really Steve should place a credit token on each Badpub token at the start of the run then optionally paying from these to increase icebreaker strength, break ICE subroutines, defend against traces during a run. If at the end of the run there are still Badpub credits unused they return to the bank. Can the Corp player remove Badpub tokens and how?
@teamcovenant7 жыл бұрын
That is technically how it works, John. Most players find it much easier to just treat the Bad Publicity token as the credit that would be gained/returned in order to make it less confusing. When Steven is flipping over the Bad Publicity tokens, it is signifying a Bad Publicity credit being spent. The Corp player has no standard way to remove Bad Publicity, but there are Corp cards that do so, such as: netrunnerdb.com/en/card/20082 and netrunnerdb.com/en/card/08075
@johnmc7037 жыл бұрын
Thanks for clarifying how Bad Pub works. Eagerly awaiting the next episodes in this series as your ingame explanations and commentary are a great help understanding the mechanics and flow of the game.

Hey guys wanted to ask something since I've been re-watching these vids! Around 14th minute mark when Steven is taking that net damage from "Snare" and Zach uses his ID effect on his "I've had worse card!" is he still supposed to take the three cards? The phrasing on Weyland ID is something like "instead of sending it to the heap remove it from the game" and the "I've had worse card" says whenever it's trashed. When is the card "trashed"? Is the card trashed when it's being sent to the heap? And if something reroutes it to becoming removed from the game or somewhere else you can still use the cards effect, since it "was" being trashed or did Weyland ID effect reroute it to "not trashed"? Or when you call the card trashed it means it must be in the heap? Just wondering how do those effect trigger and interact. Didn't catch this the first time when I watched it. Loved these vids by the way, I love how simple/complex these games can be, can't wait to get my hands on the Revised Core Set...when it's reprinted. :D
@vincentj.90575 жыл бұрын
Maxinator X I know this is a year out from when you asked this, but here it is anyway! Skorpios says “instead of adding it to the heap” not “instead of trashing.” So it’s still trashed and everything triggered due to it being trashed still happens.
@pierpaologiacomoni68467 жыл бұрын
At min 25 you approach an resolve subroutine without having any icebreaker installed. How is it possible? Probably is just a stupid noob question!Thanks, great vid.
@pierpaologiacomoni68467 жыл бұрын
Thanks.
@lorcannagle7 жыл бұрын
Both subroutines on the ice ran. The first one gave the corp player 2 credits, the second triggered a trace. When a trace is triggered, the corp player first spends credits, then the runner does. if the value of the trace+the credits the corp spends is greater than the Runner's link+the credits they spend, the Trace is successful, and the effect in the routine completes. In the case of this ice, the trace would have put a tag on the runner, allowing the corp player to spend a click and IIRC 2 credits to trash an installed piece of hardware, and various cards have abilities that can only be used if the runner is tagged. In this case the Trace value was 3 and Valencia's link was 0. Zack spent no credits to increase the trace value, and Stephen spent 3 - 1 credit from his balance and 2 from Bad Publicity. As Valencia's modified link value was equal to the trace value, the Trace attempt failed.

You guys continue to do a great job with these instructional videos. Bad Publicity was one element of the game I was a little confused by (simply because I hadn't dealt with it much), and you have cleared it up completely! One question: I notice in your videos you don't use click trackers at all. Is that just because you're both familiar with the game and its flow and don't feel the need for the help in tracking clicks?
@teamcovenant7 жыл бұрын
That is correct - we always try to play with click trackers but they usually just sit on the table. A vast number of people use them though, and they are certainly worth using. We really should be using them.

A question regarding Net damage. Does the damage happen simultaneously or is it 1 damage a time? The way I see it, if it is simultaneous, Weyland can choose which of the 3 cards sent to the heap to remove from the game (or none). Otherwise, Weyland has to make a decision whether to remove from the game or not in every instance of the damage and CANNOT go back on the decision even if only worst cards are sent to heap afterwards. Personally, I think it makes more sense to be simultaneous since its stemming from only 1 effect. So all 3 options are there for the Corp to remove. Because otherwise, an effect of 3 net damage would be equal to 3 effects (i.e. subroutines) dealing 1 each, which makes no sense.

Very nice instructional game. I liked seeing Corp win and Zack's approach was classic Weyland and especially a classic use of Skorpios and Hunter-Seekers to knock Steven's AIs out of the game. Anarch without its AIs loses a good deal of its punch because they then need Icebreakers for every type of Corp ICE (AIs can interact with any type of ICE while other Icebreaking programs have to match the ICE type to work). As a Jinteki player, our card for this is an ICE called Swordsman which specifically not only blocks AIs but trashes them too. Zach did you consider splashing Swordsman into your deck?

We were trying to keep it pretty simple in the video, but Swordsman would be a great include!

I've never played this game so when the runner discards they go face up into trash, while for the corp they go face down into archives? Have I got that right? Fun to watch BTW.
@KojiroGanryuSasaki7 жыл бұрын
It depends on how they were trashed. Typically if the runner somehow gets a chance to see the card before it is trashed, the card is put in archives (the discard pile) face up, but if the card is trashed without the runner knowing exactly which card it is, the card goes to archives face down. The first can happen if the corporation has an asset installed and the runner accesses it and pays the trashing cost. The second typically happens when the corporation is forced to discard cards from his hand.
@vincentj.90577 жыл бұрын
Yep! If the corp willingly trashes anything (overwriting installed cards or discarding for hand size) the cards go facedown. It can sometimes be a great bluffing opportunity to hide Agendas there until you can shuffle them back in with other effects!

Your correct! Steven did have the option to trash it for zero but chose not too.
@marbman19906 жыл бұрын
Team Covenant but why would he not? I mean he's taking 3 net damage and tag. Which is bad lol. Is it because he had that one card that allowed him to draw back up effectively on taking a tag out of the trade off and forcing Zach to pay 4?
@PiecesMissing6 жыл бұрын
He will still take the 3 net damage and the tag. He THEN has the option to trash, but the trashing will not avoid the effect. If he trashes he removes the threat from the opposing players HQ, as it can linger there run after run, if he doesn't he can gain a virus counter on his Aumakua, but I think that his opponent assumes he will trash it (he seems to put it in archives) as it's generally worth more gone than the single counter.
@marbman19906 жыл бұрын

Hi Max! Since 2017, there is an annual rotation of cards for Android Netrunner, meaning that cards that are 5 years old are not "tournament legal" anymore. When they say that Corroder is out of the game, it means that the rotation removed it. Fun fact, now that NISEI manages the game, they have brought Corroder back with their "2019 core set" list. Other cards like Scorched Earth are however gone for now (thank god). Hope this helps!

Question- at 15:02 Zach plays Hunter Seeker to trash the turtle. Could he not have just used the tag from Snare to do the same thing for the same cost, but save the extra click that Hunter Seeker uses? I’m guessing it was just to show how Hunter Seeker works, but it’s played again later too. Just curious, love the vids, thanks!

In min 38, when solving the subroutines of shadow, steven had to lose 2 cards because of armored server. Am I right?

No. The text "Hosted Agenda Counter" on Armored Servers indicates the cost of the ability. To activate that ability, Zach would have to spend the agenda counter on that card in a paid ability window (he does this on the last runner turn).

I'm confused by the "runner cannot Jack out approaching first piece of ice" I initiate a run. I approach ice. My opponent rezzes the ice. Now, I have to pump up my icebreakers to interact with it, and resolve the subroutines one way or the other before jackng out? Also, what if it's a type that my breakers don't work on? Am I effected by the subroutines?
@teamcovenant6 жыл бұрын
Great questions, you are correct on all counts. You cannot jack out on the first piece of ice during a run, and if the ice is a type that your breakers do not work on, you are definitely affected by its subroutines. Here is a great discussion about the rule, on reddit: goo.gl/XrZVrh

at 13:20 Snare is accessed from HQ and the net damage should not have been triggered since that piece only triggers if accessed from R&D, like the text says. This is actually the ideal way of finding Snare since there is no penalty and you can trash it for free.

My only real issue - and this is minor - is that since all your videos utilize the Revised Core, new players (such as myself) can't recreate the decks you've made in your demos until the Revised Core set releases - unless of course we want to go the get data packs containing those cards (which will contain a bunch of cards that are rotated out). Hopefully it's not more than a month or so to wait, but even at that, it diminishes slightly the effect of the videos, since I can't throw together the decks and play on my own using them for practice. :-/
