In today's call the Hero takes a slightly unorthodox flop line and ends up with the near nuts on the river. Bart and he walk through the proper raise size at the end for value.

im the first guy to say to throw away the solver ranges in soft live games vs bad opponents, but this flop is always just bet 1/3 pot with full range imo. opponent expects you to cbet, so give them the chance to fold. charge their 2-outers, protect the times you have KJ or 44 or 87s or whatever garbage you raised it with pf. plus i just feel like it makes the entire hand easier to play postflop. itll remove all the awkward turn spots like the one you faced. even more so if you think your opponent is the least bit tricky or tough relative to the normal opponents youd face in that pool.

@@aheroictaxidriver3180 what dont you understand? if youre range betting 1/3 pot 100% like i said to do then a VAST majority of the time youre going to be rooting for folds on this board. this doesnt seem that complicated to me. also, please engage respectfully like an adult so we can have productive conversations. i get it, youre a shark, im a fish. youre a mensa-level genius and im stoooopid. thats fine. you can still be kind even when dealing with bottom-of-the-gene-pool mouthbreathers like me. thanks!

@@DKFX1 no i wholeheartedly disagree with this. certainly you dont have to get stacked here every time your trips bad kicker arent good. the problem i have with pot controlling/underrepping here is that it never gains you that much. but it does allow your opponent to get extemely lucky against you. this is a way ahead/way behind situation. its not like youre checking back the flop and villain will be all like 'he checked so definitely doesnt have an ace here im blasting off with my pocket sixes!!'

@@aheroictaxidriver3180 mostly because you have a huge range advantage, so betting will be the most profitable long term. but also youre going to want folds on this board a lot, so you want to protect all the times you miss. also for simplification. like its probably ever-so-slightly more profitable to bet 93% and check beck when you have an ace and a diamond or whatever. but its too tedious to commit all those spots to memory. youre not giving up much ev to just turn the spot into bet 100. also, to avoid all the awkward turn spots that come about when you check this type of flop back. i prefer to put my opponents into spots where theyre playing predictably whenever possible. take this exact hand for example. if we dont boat up on the river we are in a horrific spot if opponent bombs it with our weak trips. did he outflop us? is he bluffing because we showed weakness? youre going to be guessing a lot. as far as checking back quads, i mean obviously thats fine. and if im being completely honest, id probably do that a lot too. but ofc theres a HUGE difference between checking back AA and A5 here. i just dont want to get into a spot where im checking back when i flop trips or better and betting when i have basically zero equity and i want them to fold. so i just combine it to betting 100% (or almost 100%) of the time.

I think that’s a good case of never getting called by worse, always getting called by better. Specifically you’re driving out combo draws and getting called by 10s and 3s and A 10 and better trips. And those bluffs you drove out probably would have fired river when they miss (giving you the chance to pick them off).

depending on what you want. If you want to take the money and finish the hand, then , yes, 3!bet. If you want to keep him in, then just flatting is the optimum play. Now, we can argue what's the best option: a) call turn raise and give him free river card, or b) kick him out of hand, prevent him from improving and beat us on river? I'd say a personal opinion. All depends on who you are as a player and your goals. . Maximizing the hand revenue? Not sure if that's an option in this hand context. The board is very connected...so, the revenue is uncertain. So: how can you maximize the Uncertain thing? This is my argument for hammering the turn (3!bet).

Stopped at 13:00. I'd bet $600. Any Ax and any flush will call, so you want to raise larger, anyone calling a $400 bet here will almost always call $600. If foe check shoves, the only real hand you lose to is AhTh, and 33, TT and KdXd may shove overplaying their hand.
@qazzaqstan
@qazzaqstan Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure Ax is necessarily calling, but yeah I'm not convinced the ones that fold to $600 are really calling $430 either. Plus you really need to get value from AhQd AhKd which are calling pretty much anything reasonable due to blockers as well as flushes which again can't really fold to a reasonablish raise (though it is an interesting thought on if you prefer to call with AhQd or like 67dd)
@jacobgoldman5780

3s not superlikely to call utg raise, and only some KdXd should be in range (namely KT, KJ, KQd) but yeah would be interesting choice there.
@qazzaqstan
@qazzaqstan Жыл бұрын
Hoping they are overplaying a flush feels ambitious, that said I would have trouble folding to a shove purely off TT (Ah3h feels very unlikely to but it probably helps to a bit). I don't think most players over-play tens full here but there are 3x as many combos of it as AhTh and you only need to be right 35% of the time (assuming the raise was to $600) it just feels like it would have to be a sigh call and go broke spot. That said if I knew this player well enough that I am certain they are not overplaying here, I'm not convinced they have a bluff (what would it even be AJs that realizes it is no good and feels it can't bluff catch without a diamond?) so folding becomes an option again. Of course at some point it becomes a clear call again because they are capable and you lose to exactly 1 hand.
