This was a nice match and Caba did great showing his mastery of Guile. I've seen Caba and Nuckledu play Guile and the way they go in with a more aggressive playstyle knowing when to switch between throwing booms and anti-air really brings them to another level. Also the production during the match with the instant replays of Caba drinking water is hilarious.

I always love when pros can play zoners at close range. Guile definitely has tools that make it easier for him than most zoners. But, it's still nice to see more than just a wall. I remember watching Floe watching a SFV tournament back when Menat was zoning EVERYBODY out. During a match with Justin (I think he was actually playing against Nuckledu maybe), the other person switched to Juri (who wasn't good in that patch). Floe explained that Juri's V-Skill could actually punish Menat's zoning game and get her in on her. So all of a sudden, Justin starts playing aggressive and jumping in on Juri and still wins.

Something I have learned playing Guile for a month is his level 2 activation freezes the current game state. This means you can use it to read what the opponent is doing when you do the activation and be charging the entire time the animation plays. It’s good stuff

On the super you can actually do diagonal up and it count: for a flash kick motion and a level 3 motion so you can cancel the flash kick into the super much easier

That feeling of "not today" reminds me of each time I'd boot up bbtag after the first few weeks lmao. The thing I try to do vs guile is DI'ing the booms. Like yeah it's way riskier than jumping, but it at least keeps them on their toes as an extra thing to actually keep track of, which may actually open up jumps more. Fighting guiles turn me into a savage, but I think I'm okay at dealing with them more or less. He's hella annoying though win or lose, which also sums up my feeling on half the cast.

From my understanding, a drive rush does not create a true block string. During blocking, when see the opponent's drive rush, do the OD to reversal. But the window is very small, need to react very quickly

It IS a true block string, but depends on the starter and what you cancel into.

I tested Guile and just because my perfect rate on booms is like 90% naturally I stick with him. I don't want to brag or anything but I swear that was the reason. It's simply too satisfying to make perfect booms 😅

This is very likely me being bad, but I don't really get why so many players, Mena included, remain hella aggressive when they have the life lead versus Guile. From my experience against Guile in the other games, if you have the life lead, you should nearly always just sit back make Guile approach you instead. Guile does have much better approach in this game thanks to the system mechanics, maybe that's why?

The only time I ever came up with something original in a fighting game is using Lex Luthor in Injustice for mad set ups and unblockables. Shame the game isnt played as much anymore.

Caba's combo seem weird, like 6MP into 6mp into DR, into something else. I will rewatch this for sure. I know I am not converting some medium into a DR. Caba did some of those here. Always thought it was for other more aggro characters to have those DR chains.

@@Amaling Honda, Blanka, and to a slightly lesser extent Sim, JP, Cammy, Ken, Luke all can carry with just a few basic specials or simple corner carry combo. Gief is one of the easiest characters at low level but one of the hardest once people have a basic understanding of the game.

I have to agree on Japan being slightly behind in the meta. Daigo especially is downplaying Guile pretty hard, from what I've seen with Japanese Guile players they simply aren't on the level of Caba and Nuckledu, and he's not a very popular pick with them in the first place... I think there's going to be some Guile-led blow-ups at Evo

Going to Luke from Marisa is probably an easier transition than most. I tried using juri as a secondary and her rush down style neutered my rhythm with Dhalsim after eventually switching back. Decided to transition to Gief as my secondary for the obvious reasons.

​​​@@georgegao1408Charge partitioning is present in SF3 but not in SF6 , it consists in charging a portion of a special ( let's say you're trying to charge a move that needs 60 frames but you only charge for 30 ) and then either moving forward ( you're not forced to move but it's oftenly used that way ) or attacking , and then recharging again ( the 30 frames that you're missing ) in order to use a charge special in a context that wouldn't normally allow it , such as dashing and performing a Chariot Tackle or Knee Drop with Urien. It's important note that you must NOT charge the full move at the start of your sequence , or else you will not be able to benefit from this technique.

He’s a charge character so he has weakness off the back ..People just don’t pay attention to guile’s movements,what he can do when he walks forward and what he can’t ..grab loops work well on him because a blocked flash kick may be death for him ..So corner guile and put him in the mix ..Parry his booms and move closer to him ,you can di his start up of the boom if he doesn’t space his self correctly..You can di so many of his best buttons “pokes” in neutral..

Slightly weak to DI, that's pretty much it and you can play around that weakness without too much of a problem. I don't think there's any other character the game that has the complete tool set like Guile other than Luke, the two are interchangeable for top spot for basically the same reasons.

pierce on a serious note tho, jp doesn't need to aproach and has better zoning than guile, which is guiles strong point, he wants you to come in so he can do damage, but jp doesn't need to get in so by default, jp is a bad matchup for guile and characters of this arcetype
