good old design, only things I'd rather see a little different is getting the elevator "off the floor", and perhaps some vertical runners (ski's) up front to keep a prop from being easily snapped, just vertical foam board maybe 1.5" taped edge to make it slippery. BBQ skewer foam board wheel landing gear could be cool too.

idea for a build. try to make a big EDF fly! like just the edf,... attach wings and a tail to the edf. edf is the fuselage. in theory it should do like mach 3 or something.

Thats what I'm here for! I've been loving your foam plane builds since 2016 when I lived in LA and found out about you.... Back then I was about to go back to Germany and couldnt start building, over here it was way more complicated and expensive to get the right foam board, so I never build a plane until now. In Febuary I built my very first Scratch Build plane, a tiny trainer. I had a lot of trouble cutting out straight and my foam board sheets where only 11.6in x 16.5in. Got it in the Air and broke the wing a couple times while flying :D, that was fun. Right now Im finishing my FT Explorer Speed Build Kit, finnally decided to get one of your Kits and building it is so much easier than scratch building for me, really love it. Thanks Flite Test for all your great videos, teaching and promoting about the RC hobby, you really got me into it and I hope many more will come....

I learned to fly with a Tiny Trainer. Crashed it so many times since 2016 (especially in the beginning ) but the rear fuselage survives to this day. I've used this plane to teach friends to fly too. It's a great design.

I struggled at the field on my own with 3 epic crashes until one day a fellow pilot approached me and asked if he could help. We traded the radio back and forth a dozen times before I was able to fly on my own, didn't have buddy box in the early 80's. I was ready to give up altogether, if that guy hadn't of offered his help. I was done.

I’ve made many flitetest models and this is one of my favorites. It will fly slow, but with some simple modifications it can be very sporty. I use the sport wing without dihedral, 4 rubber bands, a carbon fiber arrow shaft as a spar and an 1800mah 4 S battery. Fun!

For beginners it is all about accessibility into the hobby. I taught myself to fly over 20 years ago but had it not been for relatively cheap and easy electric park flying, the huge wall that was glow fuel planes and joining clubs would have held me back forever. Nothing can beat the freedom of being able to look out your window at perfect weather, grab a simple electric plane and go fly on your own terms.

alex you did a great job building the plane and i appreciate the effort you and the others put into the planes the fight test programs and flight test family also the events you run, i think its really great of you to encourage Jeremy with flying. jeremy does an awesome job with the filming building but I did not know of his anxiety and ptsd , i suffer from anxiety and major depression myself and know how hard it is to break through these barriers and try things that make you anxious, i still have problems with some things but was encouraged to try something new and with a little help by others so i tried karaoke now i love it. public speaking is very hard i dont like it but now its easier because i took up karaoke and its odd but this has made my life easier with talking to people i dont know and in public, your conquering your fear of flying and crashing them with the help of friends and actually building planes and being around them all the time is a way of looking your fear in the face and i want you to know that even though im in Australia i still would like to encourage you to keep going but if you want to stop, stop but dont give up my friend you are winning the battle by facing you fears, regards Nigel in Australia

i have anxiety also from a heart issue about 7 yrs ago and thats when i started RC the only real thing that gets me relaxed is flying , when i'm flying nothing else matters , i fly mostly FPV wings and the feeling of being in the cockpit is like no other for me , i wish you the best you can do it and dont worry about crashing its part of the hobby it can be fixed just like you !!!!

This video is great! I have been posting many less than happy with FT comments over the past few months because it felt like this type of content was lost from the FT video release mix. The simple planes and getting people into the hobby is what brought me to FT years ago and is the reason that I have suggested FT to people that see me out flying and ask about getting started. PLEASE continue to make content based around getting people into the hobby, as well as getting back to the basics for those of us that have moved onto more advanced planes. Alex, I was able to guess what plane you were building because it is one of my original Flite Test planes and it is the plane that I have had flying the longest. Great design, so easy to fly, and very forgiving. I wish all my planes flew this well!

Don't stress about the wind, whilst it makes flying harder, when your learning and have a buddy with you, the wind is your best friend, you learn and advance as a pilot WAY faster in the wind. My local airfield is very windy and very very thermally, the bixler 1.1 can be a real handful in the wind but I think I am a far better pilot then I could have ever been learning only in calm weather. Today I landed on the runway properly for the first time (and did it 6 times over 4 flights) and have gotten past my fear/discomfort of flying over myself which was hurting my ability to shoot approaches. Last week I made my first paddock landing so very happy :) Another thing that I can see for people is how slow it seems when you first start out, hearing 8-10 weeks or longer to learn. I am on week 8, and it doesn't feel that long, it's really important you do not rush yourself, advance when you are comfortable and you'll learn faster because you're not stressing yourself out and not making ""forced"" mistakes by being stressed. One more tip while I got you reading, if you can afford it, invest in telemetry capable gear, in wind, the discharge rates changes a lot and telemetry is really helpful. My shortest flight was very windy, dirty air, 6 minutes. Average flights are 8-9 minutes. My best flight was also windy but the air was smooth and we had a great thermal that was just *parked* so managed to get an 18 minute flight. Telemetry gave me and my instructor the confidence to keep flying way past the timer because we **knew*** the state of the battery and also gave us the warning when the pack crashed out really quick due to high battery load.

Great episode! The Tiny Trainer reminds me of my FT Explorer, which is one of my favorite models ever. Jeremy, here’s wishing you all the best. While my personality issues have been minor (I’m on medication for low moods), I still know what it’s like to feel “not right,” and to feel helpless when dealing with it. Same with migraines... By the way, although I’ve crashed many models - FT and otherwise - I still cringe when I punch one in. :-/

I'm definitely going to buy this when my local vendor gets a new batch in! I was set on getting the Explorer as my first plane (I fly quads), but this is cheaper to break, and just has a nice size. I have an extra FPV pack to put on there too. I'm thinking that I'll place the camera behind the wings, so that I can see the aircraft while flying. This looked like a lot of fun. I'm happy that you were able to fly this, man!

Jeramy, I am sorry to hear about your PSD, I get what you are saying about the anxiety before and during a flight. I felt like that too for the first couple years of flying. The simulator is a huge help, keep doing that when ever you have the chance. Flying RC is not a mind game, it is a muscle memory skill, if you have to take the time to think while you are flying then the anxiety will kill you. When you train you muscle memory to work the sticks based on what your eyes are seeing and take the whole thought process out of the equation, then flying becomes relaxing, stress relieving, and fun. People ask me all the time, "How do you do fly so smooth, or how do you do such and such" My answer is always, I don't know how I do that, but my thumbs do. Keep it up brother, the anxiety will eventually transform into a theropy.

I still fly my trainer all the time just for kicks! Good to try new things on too. I run a larger 1400kv motor with a 9x6 prop on it and a 2200mah battery, it is perfection set up like that. Smooth and quiet and has enough power to do any tricks but also slow to a crawl. I highly recommend it and can provide a special 3d printed power pod file I made to anyone that wants it, it will simplify the motor conversion. I get 20-30 minute runtimes too, It's a dream!

I love the tiny trainer also. I don't use the dollar store foam however. I get the very durable dense foam Elmors foam board from target. Its heavier and much stronger than the dollar store foam. You do need more power because the heavier the plane the more power you need so i use the F power pack motor for the tiny trainer. I also use the target foam for the big mustang and it flies great.

PTSD sucks I have had this for 10 years. It is hard to deal with. I haven't been able to go back to work because of it. I use to work at a hospital and I have seen a lot of horrible stuff. when I go back to any hospital now and hear all the equipment especially when hearing a flat line sound. I start having flash backs of stuff that I have seen at work. I also developed GAD witch is a very saver Anxiety disorder. I ended up with the fear of dying. I lost my belief system and also have a really bad Low self a steam. I under stand how your friend feels. I just wanted to let him know that he is not alone. and with anxiety problems 90 % of the people do have anxiety problems and most of them think that they are having a heart attack. If you Can get in to CBT for anxiety and Tapping for PTSD a lot of people con over come their Anxiety and PTSD with with this kind of training. I wish you all the best. I tried a ready-to-fly RC airplane and it was a disaster. The Tiny Trainer is the first RC airplane I built and flew successfully. If it wasn't for Flite Test I wouldn't have gotten back into this hobby or stayed as long as I have. I need to build another Tiny Trainer!
