I have two large soft boxes for continuous lighting, but I feel I could benefit also by adding a speedlight for off camera flash. What is the name of the flash you have? I want to attach one on my Nikon d50 and canon SL3.

I have a bunch of them but I think the main one I use is the SB-24. I just got an SB-18 (it’s in the thumbnail) and I think that will get a lot of use too as it’s a bit smaller.

@@LucyLumen I have a Nikon d50. Wanna try to get those retro like portraits using flash. Might look into the one you mentioned for research sake. Ever used any newer, godox, or other speedlight or more throwback classic kind?
@LucyLumen8 ай бұрын
We have a wireless godox one but for digital only. The TTL metering system is different for film and digital flashso you can’t really use one with the other and still get TTL.

@@LucyLumen considering the Nikon d50 has a ccd sensor and my canon has a cmos, would you recommend I get one speedlight universal for both? My d50 gives more nostalgic film like shots vs my digital. I really only wanna learn the basics and use flash speedlight for self portraits indoors or outdoors to just play and learn. Any feedback is appreciated

A suggestion on a product photography and lighting overall: Use a big octabox to have less hard shadows and have less blown out highlights, If you want to make a good shadow on purpose - than make two photographs where one you take with big octabox where light is soft and there is no blown out highlights on the product and second one where you get good long shadow - than you bend everything togeather in post and get perfect product and good hard shadow. Than your photographs will not look like from 90s taken with point and shoot.

So cool to hear the process, Lucy! Really insightful stuff. Love how your shots look 🤩👏

Glad you looked into flash more. It looks daunting at the onset (when I bought my first speedlight, almost 10 years ago, I was so scared to start learning flash that I put it in a draw and didn't start learning it till a year after LOL) but when you learn a little at a time and practise, you see that it's not that hard to get started and build on the knowledge and skill with it. Just found your channel. It's cool to see your photography journey. Very relatable on multiple levels :)

It’s pretty impressive how you can get that feel of magazines with those cameras. I remember having issues of spin magazine from 99 or so and mostly all brands resemble you’re style and how people still want that look Compare to high end brands. I saw Dino 06 with Priestess and Dead Meadow their 1st reunion in Houston! Nothing but classics loud and amazing

Great to see, that you are expanding. You might already know, but Tin House Studio here on KZbin is almost all about product photography. There is a lot there, but I have definitely learned a few things about studio lighting for product photography as well as his process watching some of his videos. Very nice guitar btw. I'm more of a Gibson Les Paul Gold Top P90 fan myself. If I had mastered playing the guitar, that would be my white whale guitar... I haven't, so I stick to the cheap clone, I got 15 years ago (and the Danelectro 59 DC, I got a year later).

Haha I actually interviewed tin house studios here on my channel last year have a look back and you’ll find the video! Lux actually has a Gibson Les Paul he bought when he was much younger but he says he has softened in old age and prefers the way fenders feel and sound.

Lucy! Long time fan etc love your channel and hope to see you succeed with whatever direction you take things as you follow your passion and interests. I wanted to recommend a channel for you - 'tin house studios' as he is a commercial and product photographer who really loves to share his experiences in an honest way, just thought you might find some value in it. Thanks!

Thanks for much for your kind comment. It’s funny you’re the second person to comment on this video about tin house studio and guess what?? I actually interviewed him last year if you go back through my vids you’ll find it he’s a great source of knowledge!
