Ollie's hour record is fast approaching, but with limited time on the track, he's going to need to learn some skills fast. Fortunately, a world-class track rider has just joined our team at GCN in the form of Manon Lloyd. With Manon's guidance and expert coaching from The Sufferfest, what could possibly get in the way of Ollie riding past Eddie Merckx's historic record?

Somehow she makes Ollie look gaunt and sickly even now that he has fully recovered. Definitely she was much more at ease and in her element than at a desk only being given awkwardly few lines. Let her drive more segments like this, or at least give her proper speaking time when stuck behind the desk with the hazbin boys club.

I love the obvious respect Ollie shows Manon for the skills she possess on the track. That is something I noticed about all the guys on GCN when Emma was there- a real respect for these women athletes. Chris and Emma climbing The Maratona was one of my favorites. Chris is a great sprinter but Emma is a climbing machine. Anyways, I watch GCN not only because I can learn something and have a laugh but because the guys are truly good guys; ego and cockiness were left at the door.

I don't know what it says about the community that we are talking about people treating each other with respect as if it a surprising thing, or that it is a rare thing worthy of comment. I don't think I've ever seen a post where someone praises the male riders for speaking with each other respectfully.

Well, cycling is quite a big sport for women (though she clearly couldn't beat the male track racers as the data proves women are slower/less power, and she did doing the more male-centric area of the sport, haha), but, yeah, Manon is better at sprinting than most of the GCN guys, as most of those guys are more long-distance/power (so she's not at hills, but no idea about extremely long-distance, but clearly she has trained her whole life mostly for sprints, so it's very different training/body for that). She's a pro track sprinter, so no idea why you are shocked that they are respecting her within her own sport? Everybody respects everybody within their own field. I mean, they clearly hired her for the job, so yeah, they knew she was a woman athlete and clearly respect her. You are speaking as if good guys don't exist, and like Ollie is some kind of magical being. Have you only met evil men or something? Real men exist in the Western world, it's very common, haha. P.S. Biking has always been pretty open and liberal, at least since the 1970s, and has had women since then, as well, so it's almost certainly baked into the sport and culture that women are pretty accepted when it comes to cycling, with its roots in the kind of rebel culture of Cali, US.

Hey. Just wanna say, I know your really fit and everything but working so hard at something very difficult is very inspirational. I started biking only a few years ago because I lost my mom to MS and I knew about a ride to raise money to help people effected with MS. I started training in a February at 290lbs my goal was to be able to bike 100 miles over 2 days. I trained so hard not really knowing what it would take to bike even 50 miles in 1 day at the time. That by August 4th when the ride came I was able to do 2 century rides on back to back day 200 miles and lost over 70 lbs. raised a ton of money for MS and began to heel from the heartbreak of losing my mother to multiple sclerosis. But really I want to say thanks because this makes me want to keep reaching for my next goal. Not fully sure what that is but it’s kinda now just getting faster 😃 thanks!

I used to enjoy track riding as a kid and have always loved the 1k time trial (& the 4000m individual pursuit) (and being an Aussie, we have a history in these events). Ever since it was dropped from the Olympics in 2004 (as well as the women's 500mTT) for BMX, it is sadly not as widely visible or popular anymore. Very much a small niche event now. 🙁 Would love to see a resurgence in this event and more track riding/racing in general. Track riding is amazing for your pedalling technique & cadence, and would be perfect for winter workouts to mix up your winter training if you're near an indoor velodrome (or if you are lucky to live in a mild winter climate for outdoor, usually concrete, velodromes!).

You should check out some of the live feeds on Facebook from Detroit Lexus Velodrome. Before quarantine there were races every other week and a whole lot of Madison. They sometimes explain the events and the announcer is awesome. facebook.com/LexusVelodrome/ Here's one specific race so you get an idea. They are really trying to make track cycling audience friendly and grow the sport. They are also focused on giving back to the Detroit community. In this video Zak breaks down some Madison exchange technique - like I said they are really trying to educate the audience. facebook.com/LexusVelodrome/videos/252634126139675/

But, I do agree that any kind of forced diversity is completely horrible and pointless, and hurts women (or whatever the grouping is) just as much as anything. There is one question that they can never answer: 'Why?' 'We need more female boxers and firefighters!' - 'Why?' It tends to be baked with evil socialist narrative of 'equality of outcome' and such. They aren't doing it for any real or good reason, nor for women or anything else. Just a big of their crazy political agenda. You need diversity of ability and thought, nothing else. Marvel is a good example because it had lots of diversity, even though it was all Jewish men. Fine by me.

Yes! More track content! Welcome Manon! I started riding an outdoor track in New Hampshire 2 years ago.. I've ridden fix in Boston since the 1980s because track standing at lights seemed safer than trying to clip in on city streets. I finally got a proper track bike 2 years ago and have been watching the World Cup for inspiration. More Track Please!

I've only ever ridden a 333m track which has lower banking and larger radius corners so much easier to hold the black line and that was still really hard. It's so impressive to see Manon ride under the black so effortlessly.

Keep at it Oliver. Success is 90% mental. THINK I can therefore I will do. So when your out finishing a hard set at training or in the hour attempt. Use the pain to remind yourself to focus on the thought. :I WILL SUCCEED AND NOTHING CAN STOP ME SO I WILL NOT STOP. I've been so inspired by this. You can do this.

Couldn't have been timed better! I have a trip through my work coming up and we will be learning how to ride on the track. Kind of nervous because our cities velodrome is only 138 meters, with 50 degree bankings, and 17 degree straights. Went to watch a race the other day and it looks absolutely mental. Thanks Ollie!
