I like your description of what's happening in that lick re the half/whole/altered. Could be interesting to look at final centres against maybe modal interchange?

Does anyone know if those lines were improvised while recording, or if they were actually composed or crafted before and then recorded ? The record is so perfect, not a single "dumb" note in any solos, it makes you wonder.
@GregSperoMusic9 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure it was improvised, given the M.O. of miles and cannonball at the time. Also once you transcribe it, it's pretty clear that they weren't pre-written.

It’s a mixture of both. They practice specific patterns. So many of them. They end up intertwining them live without thought. Once they’ve become ingrained

Loved this video, and your fantastic analysis as always ... Can you do a similar one on Hank Jones' solo and in fact his overall comping in this track.. his playing on this track is a masterclass in itself...

Hi-this is a great lick and thanks for transcribing it! I downloaded your exercise though, and all 12 examples are in 2 flats. I'm wondering if there's something to this I'm missing, shouldn't the signature change with each? There are so many outside tones in the lick it's a bit of a brain melter trying to work out which notes are the accidentals without a key signature to go along with it. Thanks-

hey what if that phrase is actually "out" in G# dorian as a chromatic way to get to Gm ?

how accurate is the Transcribe software you mentioned? I am looking to find something to help speed the process of transcribing.

Outstanding not sure it speeds up the process that is up to the transcriber
