I've been playing guitar for 14 years and have always struggled a LOT with even simple concepts like this. This is the first video I've seen that actually made it easy to understand. It helps that I'm a huge Hendrix fan and am very familiar with Little Wing, so learning triads in this context is actually fun, and equally importantly, makes sense. Great video, and thanks for sharing this. Huge help. You're a very good teacher.

There is a great John Petrucci video too where talks about combining major/minor triad shapes with their relative minor/major. When you combine an E minor triad with an G major triad (relative major) you get an Em7.

Yes! We need more chordal improvisers. I'm so jaded by pentatonic noodlers and scale shredders! Excellent lesson, something I've been implementing in my playing for years. One of the best steps towards becoming equally conscious and free over what ever music you are playing!

Funny thing is I learnt triad thanks to Hendrix's music, more thant twenty years ago. Then I applied them to all sorts of songs, replaciing the original chords by their triads in different positions on the neck, it helped me a lot to memorize them. Good video, man.

I'd also like to point out The Zephyr Song by RHCP - the main riff is based on triads and also incorporates licks around them. Improvisation is not a skill I train a lot, but having these triads as a base makes me feel much more comfortable.

I thought the point of learning to play triads and CAGED shapes was to keep the chord changes close together on the fretboard. In this video, you start out in Em on the 12th fret 3:00 but instead of playing an A shape G chord on the 10th fret you play the E shape G chord all the way down on the 3rd fret at 3:04. Just curious, why jump all over the fretboard instead of using a close grouping of triads around the 12th fret?

Does anyone else just feel overwhelmed? There is so much to learn and everything is so hard to do. 3 years of lessons, books, courses.....and I still can't play an entire song. I love these videos and I know the information is great, but it seems it's all beyond me. Starting at 60 may be too tall a mountain to climb.

Appreciate your phases practice session . And i honestly say to you that you are a very fine musician ..... However I think, i may be wrong , there is a big difference between your generation and mine which was late baby boomers on backwards . As kids, teens and into our twenties , because we had no smartphones, no mp3 players , no personal stereos, and had only a small portion of the day to listen to records , that music we could play back in our own minds because we had to remember it for the reasons previously mentioned . Not talking about auditory hallucinations , but really remembering a song, all the instrumentation and layers of rhythm, harmony, and melody . When Hendrix started out he practiced alone and had no backing tracks or drummer or bassist on hand . And even when he hit it big time , he could play his guitar alone and in his head simultaneously hearing the beats, rhythms and melodies in his head . And from there you go to the ultimate which is composing and making your own rhythms, beats, harmonies, words, melodies , accompanying instruments, arranging, etc . There are musical composers who don't even need an instrument while composing, but write down in formal or thier own unique musical notation system on blank paper from the music they are creating in their minds . They can be anywhere and here some rhythm , harmony or melody in their heads and jot it down . I haven't come close with the writing part but can create music in my head .

Tyler..........When you’re playing an A minor blues with chords A7, D9 & E9 and you wanted to incorporate some triads, would you use Am, Dm, and Em triads, OR A major, D major, E major triads, or a variation of both?
@vaclavm4647
@vaclavm4647 5 жыл бұрын
If it a minor blues just use a minor blues pentatonic scale, or on some scale generator you can generate apergio for every of that chord and stick with it until you more get whats going on. Important thing in this case is that you definitely should play the characteristic note fore this chords... For example in A7 note are (A major) A,E,C# and the Seven characteristic is note G... So generate apergio amajor7 and try it... In blues is same imporant thing as note is rhytm... Its not like country when you just throw notes or two from major scale per beat whole song... You rly need to tah blues rhytm also.... Great thing for this is thing call backing track... Find some Blues backing track A major here on youtube and just practice thouse things and you should get it...... (all these scales are derived from Major scale you should learn to recover by intervals not from some note but you can start everywhere and it will work. Learn the space frets between notes and it will work whole neck... Major is 2,2,1,2,2,2, and 1 (its starting or ending point for scale and there it will start over with same pattern...)
