I am a fourth generation cattle rancher and you are doing all the good!! Don’t let anybody tell you otherwise. This is not cruel- it is a kindness to the calf and to yourself to be able to move with it -not injuring yourself or the animal.♥️ Codicil: We don’t halter train anything but our dogie calves. But it is absolutely necessary with those

I raised Thoroughbred horses for about 10 years. As soon as the foal hit the ground and was nursing and obviously doing ok, on went the foal halter. The earlier the better I've found. Then you can attach a lead rope after they've gotten used to wearing the halter and teach them to lead. Horses just can't be tied to something especially with the cost of the animal involved. With our horses, how what we did was to attach a lead to the foal, lead out the Momma, and the foal will just naturally follow behind. We'd deliberately stop the Mom and the foal would normally stop also. If/when there was an even mild "tug of war" against the lead, as soon as the foal would stop, we'd ease the tension on the lead as a reward. A couple of weeks of doing this and they were lead trained very well. Takes some patience but seemed to work for us. You are doing a great job!
@sueb-t21832 жыл бұрын
yes we did the same with our quarter horses, using momma to help our training

This was so amazing. Your oldest daughter Grace is beautiful,intuitive,gifted, creative. She has had the best parenting. You give her room to grow and thrive. You are doing the same with the other children you were blessed with. We all appreciate the way you are sharing your precious gifts with us. Thank you.

It warms my heart to see children running barefoot thru dew kissed grass in the morning. I did that growing up. I still do but now I live on a beach. No grass for dew. Grace is so motivated and patient. I bet it is rewarding and even fun to lead a calf. I am glad to her more in front of the camera. I know it's hard. She had a great story telling mentor with Arthur. Best of Everything this holiday season and into the new year

I wish more did this with their animals. There will come a day when they need to treat that large 1500lb animal for an injury, or load it, and because they don't take the time when they are young, they can't get them to do what they need. It can cause serious injury for the person or the animal. Grace is a natural!

Love the dad-daughter interaction. I was the eldest daughter in our family of 4 kids and I adored the time I was able to spend with my dad teaching and helping me with all the things I loved (in my case rabbit raising and other various 4-H projects). Loving all you share from North Idaho zone 6a 💚🐄🌲

It it so good to see your family and the interaction with the farm animals. I was raised a farm girl and I know the values that are instilled in children that live on farms(homesteads). I would really enjoy winning one of the birdhouses or the placemats. I jumped on her and don’t know exactly how to enter. I have watched all of your videos and enjoy your family so much.

I love seeing Grace starting early with the calf. She is doing such a good job reading him. The patience pole is a great way to start a calf. Something else you could ad to that time is brushing and picking up hooves maybe more for the heifer calves but always great to have an animal that is use to all parts of its body handled in case of injury or illness.

Reminds me of putting a collar on a kitten. Leave it too late and you have no chance. Boy do they not want that either. For would-be kitten owners, put it on when they’re asleep, they totally think it’s normal when they wake up 🙊🐈⬛🐾🖤

My Dad got 5 Angus cross heifers from a neighbor dairy who had made his special cross cow. They were 3/4 Angus 1/8 Holstein and 1/8 Jersey.They looked like Angus but were a lot better milkers but not such heavy milkers that the calf couldn't keep up with the milk.He broke them to lead and to milk. Even though we didn't really milk them because they were beef cows it was useful several times in emergency situations.

I'd say within another week of doing what she's doing with baby Texas, he will follow her anywhere she takes him! Oh, us humans and our.interventions! Today I was going thru our Christmas box and came across our dogs Xmas jammies - yes, I said that and we put a pair on each pup. Oh my, the humiliation! They both sat as if they'd been beaten and would barely walk. 😂 We thought it was funny - they didn't. We have a cute little hook the jammies are now hanging from/nm, Sophie and Milo. 😍 The calf.is so adorable. It will be fun to watch him progress..
