Dan...sony a7iv with sigma 50mm 1.4 ($3500) vs a7iii sigma 35mm 1.4 & 85 mm 1.4 $3551)..which one will be the better option for portrait photographer
@learningcameras8 ай бұрын
@@gaimamalang2688 So I'll tackle the camera and lens options separately. For portraits the main advantage to the A7IV is more intelligent autofocus and some hardware improvements so you can decide if that's worth the upgrade. For lenses, I love a 50mm for portraits personally so regardless of what camera you get, I'd like to include that. Usually I'd recommend starting with 1 zoom (24-70 or 28-70) & 1 prime lens (50mm) just to give you options

i owned the a73 but traded it in for the A7r3. Menu issues are minor. When you own the camera, you learn the settings you need and there are several buttons to store alternative settings for quick implementation. The A7R3 has everything I need and the A74 doesn't offer a compelling reason to upgrade. But I might consider the A7r5 when it's price drops next year.

I really missed my Sony A7R III which I had back in 2018… So I have literally just bought a brand new Sony A7R III (A) in Dec 2023, on sale at Amazon for £600 (GBP) less than an A7IV. I don’t really shoot video and don’t want 61MP, so for my needs it’s still the sweet spot in the Sony range. 42MP is perfect, has a tilting screen (which has been upgraded) and the sensor still ranks higher with DxO Mark than any full frame camera released since - including Sony A7RV & A1, Canon R5, Nikon Z8/Z9 etc etc. The 3.69 EVF is still used in a lot of current cameras, and the AF still performs brilliantly. The revised A7RIII A is also manufactured in Thailand, not China like the original… Which I like, for what it’s worth. The user interface isn’t great compared to newer models but I’ve never had an issue with it. The point is, we all love the insane new tech and features but we have to be honest about what we ‘need’, and most of us who don’t shoot video or hardcore sports and wildlife, just don’t need the latest features. I’d rather spend that extra money on glass… Which I did!

Crazy to think I've had this camera for 5 years now. It was my first serious camera and as I've added lenses and techniques, I still feel like there is a lot to still learn. For less than 1,300 USD now? Pair this with one of the light primes or even a 2nd hand travel zoom like the 24-105 and you'd have a kit that would still easily make publishable photos for the next 5 years.

I don't regret my choice, sure the a74 looks amazing, but my budget only allowed me to buy the a73, and in 2024, if you do photography in general and social media content like reels for real estate, restaurants, hotels, lifestyle or even social events. Is a fantastic camera. If you need 4k60 or you are into bigger productions I'd say condier the a7s3 or fx line. But if you are planning to get the a73 nearly mid 2024, you won't regret your choice.

I bought this camera in June 2020 to replace my then-9 year old camera (Nikon D7000). Ever since I got the A7III my image quality improved massively compared to my old camera and lenses (especially when I had the Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 which was a huge night and day improvement over their 17-50mm 2.8 for Nikon) which led to a couple of magazine inserts and more people reaching out to work with me. I also started doing more events leading to a few gigs and looking now in 2024, the A7III was probably one of the best decisions I’ve made, because it advanced my photography to a whole new level and, even though I don’t do as much video, I have filmed some video with the A7III and it blows away the quality of the D7000 (along with having IBIS for smooth handling). I’m still using the A7III and I’m hoping to get a second camera body so that the A7III becomes a B-cam to the future A-cam I plan on having.

Now i have Canon and Nikon DSLRs, full frame and APSC, and i want a smaller overall kit, with third party AF lenses options and good AF for portraits. I want to keep only one system, in my heart i would go with Canon, but there isn't third party lenses and RF lenses are big (most of them). What do you think is the best thing to do?
@learningcameras8 ай бұрын
If you plan on using this professionally at some point in the future, I'd consider Sony. Not that Fuji doesn't make pro cameras, but you can get full frame options with Sony and higher end cameras as you move up in the future. Fujifilm I like as a fun camera when I don't want to do as much post production. Again, not because it can't be used professionally but because it excels with straight out of camera image quality especially with the film simulations and jpeg files. But I'd personally lean towards the A7III

The A7III is a better camera overall for photos especially. The X-T3 is great but as an APSC camera, it suffers a bit in low light and the autofocus was good, but not quite A7III good. To keep things equal, you would want an equally good lens on the Canon R8. For video, the R8 is a massive improvement but for photos, there are advantages to both cameras so either way you should be good for street photography

I still think it's crazy that the A7IV has cropped 4K... even the S5II has cropped 4K in 2023. The video at the beginning looks really good and I expect that's upscaled 1080p 120? In fact, all your slow mo footage here looks exceptional on a 5K monitor! Are you just doing basic upscaling or using an AI?
@learningcameras11 ай бұрын
I agree! Given the price increase of the A7IV, 4k60 should have been mandatory. The S5II is over 500 less AND has 6k open gate to make up for the lack of FF 4k60. That's just regular 1080p 120 upscaled! No AI or special editing

@@learningcameras sony would have killed the competition with 4k60 .... I think.
@-MrEVIL-11 ай бұрын
@@learningcameras problem is, A7IV probably does not have enough power to downsample 7k60 to 4k60 Nor can it bin or lineskip due to the resolution being lower than 8k (33mp in 16:9 size)

Hello sir thank you so much for this video. I am an indian and at present there is a canon sale in which i am getting canon r 8 for 1lakh rupees and sony 7iii for 1.24 lakh rupees. Which do tou think will be best buy for me? And why ? I am not a professional but a hobbyist. My main concern is image quality and colors. I would really appreciate if you help me in this regard. Thank you so much. All the best.

I would go for the Canon R8 at that price. The R8 is newer and thus has some big advantages. The main reason to get the A7III is the more professional hardware and since this is more about quality, colors, and features, I would get the R8
@responsibleliving60717 ай бұрын
@learningcameras thank so much, sir, for your reply. Is there any additional advantages of a7iii over R8?
@learningcameras6 ай бұрын
@@responsibleliving6071 Only other big one is that Sony has way more lens options available. But if you're mostly using a kit lens and maybe 1-2 others in the near future, Canon still has plenty
@responsibleliving60716 ай бұрын
@learningcameras as far as lenses are concerned, I am thinking of 35mm f1.8 and 85mm f1.8(viltrox). These two lenses are sufficient for me. Even if I select sony a 7iii I will go with 2 lenses maybe tamron 28 75 mm f2.8 and viltrox 85mm f 1.8. So considering this which is best buy for me canon R8 or sony a 7iii? Canon sale ends today, so very limited time for making right decision.

A7RIII or A7IV… mostly photos for dentistry (a lot of macro)
@learningcameras9 ай бұрын
You can go either way. The RIII has more resolution and the A7IV has better features. Most of the better features won't apply to macro work so if you can get a deal on the A7RIII or get one used, I'd take it but I wouldn't pay full price for it

Can a6700 take sharp photos as a7iii?

Yes it will be as sharp but it won't be quite as good with dynamic range and low light

Hi. I used a D600 for photos, has 1.4 35mm sigma art lens, 20mm 1.4 sigma art lens and a 70-200 2.8 sigma lens. I bought a gh5 with kit lens from an friend and a canon m50 mk2 twin kit lens pack. Would you say any of them would be better than an a7 iii for video? Also can I use my nikon lenses with the sony camera without issues.. or should I sell all and buy A7 4 camera?
@learningcameras6 ай бұрын
The GH5 is a better camera in a few ways for video than the A7III. The A7III has better low light and autofocus but the GH5 will beat it in most other ways on the video side. The A7III is a better photo camera though. I would not use your Nikon lenses with Sony because they won't have autofocus and you will need to use adapters so you will want new lenses. The A7IV is a major update for video so definitely if you are going Sony for video, get the A7IV or at least the FX30 is another amazing option for less money: bhpho.to/41Es3tr

a9 and a7r3 seem even more impressive than a7m3.
@learningcameras11 ай бұрын
The R3 is basically the same camera with higher resolution but it was worse for video, it was slow at the time because cards and computers struggled with those file sizes when it was announced, and technically the A7III had more autofocus coverage. The A9III was awesome though...it was just vastly more expensive and the main advantage was speed and silence so not everyone needed that

It's about 5 years newer so that definitely helps haha. Sony doesn't really have a low end full frame camera and instead just lower the price of their old cameras
