This video provides a short demo and explanation of "ratcheting" - a sequencing trick used by Tangerine Dream and other Berlin School musicians where individual steps in a sequence are triggered multiple times. A quick overview of the synth voice patch used is also provided.
This is the first in a series of 4 videos showing variations of this patch:

• Ratcheting: Introducti...
• Ratcheting Using a Vol...
• Ratcheting Using a Clo...
And here's the article that ties it all together:

Thank you for this Chris Well explained. As an avid fan of Tangerine Dream, discovered them when they just started out, this is a valuable video. I'm looking forward to the follow-ups.

Been watching these videos over and over and trying to figure out if it would be possible to achive the same result with my modules. I have a Behringer 960, and was thinking if it would be possible to send different clock speeds with Pam's and summing them with an intellijel quad vca or do I have to have dedicated modules as shown in the videos. I also thought of summing the signals via Maths. Is this possible? Kind Regards/Otto

Hi, thanks for the video. You mention you can achieve ratcheting with a clock divider/ switch etc. I have a 155, a doepfer clock divider and an a 151 sequential switch, but still don't really understand how I can achieve this... ( mainly with a clock divider instead of a multiplier)?

You already figured it out, but in case someone reads this comment without seeing your follow-up, here's the link where it all gets tied together: learningmodular.com/patching-a-ratcheting-sequence/

No plans for a Waldorf NW1 video? Thanks

Actually, I _do_ have plans for videos about the nw1. I've been distracted the last several months helping write Patch & Tweak, but look forward to getting back to creating videos this fall.

Why do you keep referring to videos as "movies"?
@cybchris
@cybchris 6 жыл бұрын
Ha! Because I'm old, I guess. When QuickTime came out, they called the files "movies"; the file extension is even ".mov". Although even I cringe when everyone keeps saying they "taped" a video or movie... ;-)

No problem. I split it into individual videos because I didn't want to drone on too long, and I wanted to introduce the variations slowly. There's an online article that ties them all together: learningmodular.com/patching-a-ratcheting-sequence/
