Wonderful boat, and for the first time I'm the one who know more about her: she comes from the desk of Carlo Sciarelli, father of some of the most beautiful italian boats - and of some of the fastest, go and see ChicaBoba II, Ostar 1980, and Chica Boba III, Ostar 1984. He was not interested in IOR boats, he hated ratings, simply loved fast boats, the ones that run more miles per day with timeless class. His book is in my library aside the ones of designers as Olin Stephens, John Alden, Joel White, Sam Crocker and others. This model was designed both as a staysail schooner and as a cutter, as Constellation probably is: the two poles shouldn't be for spinnakers - too much people to manage, he loved boats with no more than three guys at work, better if only two - but for twin staysails running down the wind, this was one of his trademarks. The cabins disposition seems awkward, but Constellation, comparing his interior with other ones from the same desk, was surely designed for charter: crew cabin aft, saloon midship, two triple forward of saloon for guests, a huge forecastle for sails with two more berths where transferring crew if more than 6 guests were onboard, NO owner cabin. Construction was fiberglass from Cantiere Ambrosini in La Spezia, this one was probably only internally finished from Cantieri Navali Scia in Genova, a couple were constructed in wood.

You asked for an opinion, so here is my opinion: It is no coincidence that this relatively large sailing schooner is in storage and does not travel the seas. This design was designed according to the racing/sports boat ideas of the early 60s with its now smiling design... Compared to its length, it has a very narrow body (4 meters) and a maximum depth of over two meters. Hand laminated fiberglass polyester resin body. (Made in Italy.) In today's eyes, this is quite difficult for a racing boat. The main concept of interior design is to accommodate many people in a short time and without comfort. It has a cave-like narrow interior living space, with small windows and a dark interior. This boat would only be suitable for retro racing without conversion. Such boats sail in a sporty manner. They have serious inclinations and their advantage is that they can cut through the waves and sail sharply, so the deck is almost constantly wet. The small cockpit is an unprotected water tank. The deck is not even worthy of a sports boat; full of obstacles and wooden decorations and scattered not self-collecting oldy winches. The traffic surfaces are extremely narrow. It would take a lot of serious upgrades and a complete interior makeover to convert this sailboat into an ocean cruising boat. However, its possible transformation, re-equipment and development would cost a very large amount. I just ask quietly: where are the really useful, practical equipment? I am thinking here of a dinghy, generator, AIS transceiver, water maker, radar, individual electronic indicators, collective rescue device etc. All together, the realistic price of this watercraft would be between 10 and 15 thousand dollars. (85K WTFCK!?) I don't even know if there is any serious interest in her as a result of this KZbin report. Not to mention a dream yacht - well... she can be a nightmare.

First off she's STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL! From what I've been seeing on other channels this is a boat set up for racing. As a matter of fact I just watched a channel and a gentleman from Italy just refitted a boat and the interior is almost a copy of this one. Would of like to seen if the old oil looking light's on her were also able to gimbal. Would LOVE TO HAVE HER TO LIVE ON AND SAIL THE LAKES !!! Thanks for the great videos!

Very unique. It seems like a boat built for ocean racing circa 1960. Lots of accommodations for lots of hands to handle lots of sails. If it rates well it might still be an interesting racer (I have no idea how a staysail schooner rates, but she can put up allot of canvas). It might be a very interesting charter racer. For $10k you could take 5 of your friends on a famous ocean race in a beautiful classic schooner.

@mauriziobellelli1229

the boat was designed for charter, the aft cabin is the crew's one, the two triples in the middle for guests, the forecastle for sails and for crew, leaving the aft cabin to guests, when more people than six were onboard, that's the reason you don't find a proper owner cabin

WOW galley. Love that simple stove, cold storage. Sink/faucet is functional, but would ultimately replace w/ deeper and spray faucet. Split forward cabins? 6 is a stretch for those mirrored cabins. Shared head!!! Curtain/noren for that head. Nice... wow AND a v-berth? Not huge on split master cabin and would prefer engine access outside of cabins, but v-berth as master cabin would fix that. Two spinnaker poles and a reaching strut (to keep the Spinnaker after guy from pressing against the windward stays). A stays'l schooner would have astays'l between the masts instead of a boomed foresail. The downside of the offset companionway is that if you get knocked down to starboard, water gets below much easier than if it is on the centerline.

Et je pourrais continuer…..l’intérieur en bois est chaleureux et c’est une copie conforme d’un quarante pieds qui reçoit un couple avec deux invités. It looks like it is "ready" but set up for a larger crew. A blue water cruiser today is set up to be sailed single hand on a watch with nearly all lines lead to the cockpit. This boat is a handful for even two, likely 3 capable sailors out exposed on deck. Even a full boat of six would be exhausting in rough weather lasting many days.

With a schooner rig she's not a boat for someone without good sailing experience, and a crew. Difficult as a short handed sailor. If someone wants to potter around and do her up in spare time, it would be a great project, but boats that have been out of the water for a long time have a lot of work to be done. 85 k is not a price at which this boat would sell I think, but at that price it could never be replaced. The problem though is you will easily need to spend another 100-150 k and then have a boat work 120-150 k. It's over 40 years old now.

I am sorry but your comment about the cockpit traveler sounded like a direct quote from Ferenc Mate without any thought as to the actual situation. On a tiller boat and many wheel boats, the cross-cockpit traveler is indeed a problem as far as movement in the cockpit. On this boat, that comment is completely nonapplicable. It crosses the cockpit just in front of the wheel where the cockpit opens up to a T. In this location you have already stepped up onto the seats to get around the wheel and you are above the traveler. Another Mate quote is the forward facing nav table. This is only applicable if you can see outside from the nav. If you cannot see the water, it does not matter which way it faces.

Thank you for all the tours. There have been several boats I've seen that I'm very interested in. I'd like to mention a few things about your tours that might be an improvement, in my opinion. Firstly, you should keep your hand out of view. People who watch this type of program already know something about boats and don't need to have a winch or a portal or a block pointed out to them. It is sort of insulting to the viewers. Also, we may be trying to take screenshots of the video for our own folders on the boats we are researching, and your body parts are in the way. Your dialog is mostly unnecessary. All you are doing is naming everything we are looking at. We can identify those items in a second and your dialog may be interfering with our thought processes, and therefore a hindrance. What is helpful is to point out details that we may not be able to see very well, in which case you could also move the camera in for a closer look. It isn't at all necessary to point out things that are important to you, like the lifeline height. Instead, you could stand next to it and say this lifeline comes up to mid-thigh on me standing 5'9", or whatever would be helpful to all of us, if you thought it was a significant factor. Personally, I would never base the purchase of a boat on the height of the lifelines. They can be raised. By all means, let us know the things the owner or broker let you know that would be of interest to us. Since there is no owner to question for this boat, I did visit the Yachtworld website of the listing by the yard owner. It shows a pic of the boat under sail and saw that the mizzen sail is a rectangular one and I was very interested in how the lines might be run from the top of the main mast forward to the aft head of the mizzen sail. I have been looking for a schooner with this configuration. If you follow Mads on Sail Life, you know he is looking for another project boat to begin work on. He is looking for a 50'-60' center cockpit boat that is in need of renovation. I will send him this one even though it isn't a c/c and it is likely out of reach of his budget. But like you said, this price may be negotiable. He preferred one on the east coast, where a great abundance of neglected boats might be found. If you see something he might be interested in, note it in the comments of his latest vlog post.

I'm put off by the lack of portholes leading toward a dark interior with no views outside combined with a miniscule cockpit and a very small salon for a 50' boat. No, there is nothing that invites me to comfort either above or below deck. Not a "happy-to-be-on" boat.

What material is it built of!!!? The one most important spec is nowhere to be found!!! Second most important: who's design???

I don't even look at fiberglass Sailboats anymore.... Aluminum is the way to go .... Fiberglass your always rebidding things, too many pesky leaks to track down..... Aluminum is becoming more popular

As you get wiser you'll realize its not the material but the design and construction.

The very first thing to consider.......can I afford "to own and maintain" a yacht of this size?

This yacht is very affordable, but who has a crew of six excellent sailors available 24/7 every time you want to make a crossing? That would be a tough roster to fill for anything that isn't a major race.
