Hi, as a Registered Nurse and an Asthmatic, I have a suggestion. Instead of initially having a goal based on distance- maybe have a goal based on time. For the first few runs set a goal of being able to run for 1 minute non stop- walk for 10-30 seconds- then run again.... Try that for the first few runs- then do a goal of 2 min etc- As you start having better endurance- then set the goal with distance in mind. I find that when people start with distance as a goal first- it can be a little disheartening, and some people (not you), but some then feel like the goal is to out of reach, cause they notice how much endurance is required - and that theirs at that time is too weak- This way the goal isnt length- it is endurance/ strength of lungs building (if that makes sense lol). Then go for length. Also, I just want to say that I love how real you are in these vlogs, and that you are inspiring a lot of people to do better for themselves and that's never a bad thing :o). And I'm sure you'll be running a full mile sooner than you think

Alex please read this!!! I just ran my FIRST 5K two weeks ago at 209lb after a 9 month weight loss journey which started at 274lb in January and I couldn’t run 1000 feet let alone a half mile. YOU WILL DO THIS. Some tips for running as a plus size person: BREATHING. IS. EVERYTHING. In through the nose, out through the mouth. If you can work on your breathing and gain control of it, it will help you TREMENDOUSLY. When I first started running as a plus size girl I was doing all mouth breathing and felt like my lungs were going to explode. It’s vital. It’s not easy to master your breathing while running but it’s a skill you need to learn. Also, couch to 5k is a great app to get started with distance running. And lastly, as a plus size girl, posture is also important while running. Keeping your back straight and upright instead of hunched over improved my stamina and how long I could go before stopping. I hope these help you!! I am proof it is possible.

I cried during this video. Last month my boyfriend as I started our fitness and weight loss journey (I was rock bottom, 291, and just got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes). We’ve both lost 12 lbs, hiking and working out and counting calories. Today, we hiked a mountain that I could only do a mile of a month ago. 6 miles today. I’m so proud of you, and sending you so much love and light. Let’s keep it going!

I feel like all women need this reminder that my trainer told me, which really gave me freedom: you don't have to run to be healthy. Running is hard on your joints at any size, and you can get your lungs, heart, and muscles in shape in other ways. Running is popular, but if it doesn't bring you joy, don't do it.If this is what makes Alex feel happy, that's her choice -- but don't put pressure on yourself to exercise in one certain way. Move in ways that make you happy and are sustainable for YOU, and don't feel guilty if running just ain't your thang. 🥰

Don’t be scared of those people Alex! I have anxiety also. So I know it’s easier said than done, but. Remember that judgement is truly a confession of character. Alex, incorporating 1-2 minute bursts of running into your walk/workout is SO good for your cardiovascular health. And over time the bursts of running will become easier/longer naturally. When I used to go to Orange Theory, they make you do 20 minutes of cardio - and that can be walking, running/jogging, biking, or elliptical. And they specifically teach you to go at your "comfortable pace" for a couple of minutes, then "push pace" for 1-2 minutes, then "all out pace" for 30 sec or so. This kind of interval training is good for your heart & cardiovascular system. So keep it up with the walk/jog/run intervals!! This is awesome!

You were amazing!!! When I started running it was really hard. I use to bump into a couple of guys and at first they didn’t think I was committed. Then one of them said you can run then walk and sprint. He gave me some advice that starting, walking and sprint would help me burn calories faster. He also said that I would build up endurance in the process. Once we ran into each other consistently they gave me a high five and became my cheerleaders. I lost 80 lbs. This pandemic has made me gain weight again but watching you has given me that fire 🔥 I need. I don’t want to be skinny. I want to be healthy. Yar!!! Dude!!! Rock on. When I was obese and started to try to run my low back would kill. Tbh it still can. My issue is I run soooo upright. A forward lean helps me a lot. If you feel some low back tightness tomorrow, consider your posture the next time...cause I totally know you're not gonna stop. Eventually that muscle burn you mentioned (lactic acid) will begin to decipate. The key is when you feel it creep in, just push for a few seconds longer and then begin your walk intervals. You'll build up a tolerance to it. For me, and all runners (yar would agree) lactic acid is always a thing st some point at the start of a run, but there's a point a couple minutes into feeling it, that once your tolerance is built up you'll be able to push through that feeling and then I promise it goes away. And then you can sink into your pace and enjoy the movement

Alex, your approach to fitness as a plus sized babe is awesome. I really liked how you said you wanna be the healthiest version of yourself and that, for me, is self love. I usually have problems with the majority of other plus sized people who attack you as soon as you mention sports and healthy habits. Yeah, i agree that you should love yourself in every size, but you should also be kind to your body, nurture it and strive to be the healthiest you can be. So good luck on your fitness journey! So proud of you!

You rock Alex, keep going. I know you’ll be able to do it soon, you have been working so hard. You have such an amazing support from the hubby. Can’t wait for next video.

So relatable! Plus sized people are criticized for not working out and also criticized and judged when we do try to work out. Thanks for doing this!

I got so emotional watching and listening to you before & during your run 😭! Was legit crying & cheering you on! You are so encouraging & are inspiring SOOOO MANY of us to work on our health as well. It isn’t easy & some of us don’t have much in the way of support. So I thank you for sharing your journey honestly, with love, encouragement & with such positive energy!!! The world needs more of that, especially right now😍❤️...

I'm so sorry you're getting bullied and judged. I hate seeing these hate videos pop up about you. People who are judging you, have something wrong with THEM. I honestly don't know how you do it! You're brave and worthy just as you are. Don't let them get you down. xo

I “run” for 15 minutes every couple days...1 min run fast, 4 mins walk😄 eventually will shake it up when I’m stronger. Running long distance doesn’t work well for my body...

You are such an inspiration. I am very overweight now as a result of a disabling leg fracture and complicated healing. I don't even recognise myself in the mirror anymore. Like you, my other half encourages me and loves me as I am and it makes all the difference. You are doing amazing

You did amazing!!! Congratulations on your journey so far. You’re only going to get better and better :) I used to be really nervous doing active things in public but I’ve honestly never had a bad interaction, I think we tend to get in our heads and But I always think to myself, what other people think of me is none of my business. Even if someone is laughing at me, honestly who cares. I’m never going to see that person again, and how lame are they that they think a chunky girl working out is funny. Do you boo boo!!
