Hello, can please explain why 'souvenir' and 'yesterday' pronunciation of the kanjis were different than their on-yomi and kun-yomi versions?

Words like "お土産" (souvenir) and "昨日" (yesterday) are unique Japanese words that existed before kanji was introduced. Later, kanji characters were applied to these words, which is why their pronunciation differs from standard on-yomi or kun-yomi readings. In the video, I mark these words with an asterisk (*) to indicate they have special readings.😊
