I believe you have the head of the constellation Hydra in the picture, and what you point out as Acubens is a part of Hydra's head, oh yes a good and helpful video.

Thanks Janine for another very detailed video. A small correction though. the star that you have marked and described here as Acubens is actually Minzal V (16 Hya), part of the neighboring constellation of Hydra that lies a little to the south. Acubens (Alpha Cancri) is a little to the north of Acubens and is dimmer and fairly inconspicuous much like the rest of Cancer. To locate it in your picture, look exactly at the midpoint of the line joining Minzal and Asselus Australis and then slightly to the left .

Thank you for your comment. If you have any links or resources about the vedic civilization, please message me. I am working on all the zodiacal constellations as well. Stay tuned!

When I was a kid I would find myself reading through pages and pages of children’s encyclopedia about zodiac constellations. Haha! I remember being so ecstatic when I found out that my zodiac was shaped like the letter Y in the night sky and would go out there at night and would pretend that I’m an expert at finding it even though there was a bunch of the “Y” alignments in the sky. Lol this video brought me back to those good all days when the skies were still clear and starry (Philippines).

Did you know that Hercules killed ♋ after it bit him on his foot? He did that by crushing him which only occurred in Greek mythology. My uncle and Harry Potter (character who appeared in J.K. Rowling's novels vs. my novels about Hope Feelgood) are born under this zodiac sign that seems to be a clawful of imagination.

Great video, as always Janine! Please check on the diagram. I think you may have inadvertently identified zeta hydrae as being Acubens. A simple mistake. Love your content!

To make a crab shape draw a line between Asellus Borealis and Eta Cancri, another line between Asellus Australis and Theta Cancri, then a line from Theta Cancri to Beta Cancri (Tarf), and at the end a line between Tea Cancri to Phi1 Cancri, and together with the lines already drawn from Iota Cancri to Asellus Borealis and from Asellus Australis to Acubens you have a perfect shape of a crab!

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy them. I haven't been to Cherry Springs yet. My sister and I were planning a trip there this summer, but it is on hold because of COVID-19. You must have a really amazing sky to see there!

I found it the same way to find it as you. I used low magnification, 24x and I found Cancer not far from Gemini. I saw the Beehive cluster, but I thought it was kind of small and I double checked and it was the Beehive. I guess I was thinking of the Pleaides, but the Beehive wasn't that bright.

Question: M67 is that the same as M66? Or are they two different locations? This is very insightful for the Bible thanks for your hard work
@learnthesky2 жыл бұрын
M67 is definitely different than M66. M67 is located in Cancer and is a star cluster, while M66 is located in Leo and is a spiral galaxy. I hope this helps.

The origin of the name Cancer is quite straightforward and not really debated at all - the first depiction of the crab form was in ancient Greece, and the word cancer was just their word for crab. Maybe later on this became more generally translated to crustacean of some sort, including lobster/crayfish, but theres not really anything ambigous about it

It is a stock photo I bought years ago for a few different constellations. I have since bought others. It might be good to change it at this point so it doesn't confuse others. Thanks for the comment.
