The injector is one of the most critical components when it comes to tuning your engine and getting the most performance, reliability, and consistency out of it. Despite this, there are a lot of misunderstandings and half-truths out there when it comes to the subject, so we’re grateful to have ‪@InjectorDynamicsTV‬'s Paul Yaw on for this episode of the HPA Tuned in Podcast to help clear things up.

Use ‘PODCAST75’ for $75 off your first HPA course here: hpcdmy.co/hpa-...
--------------------------
Paul and his company have done a lot to increase that knowledge and understanding over the last decade as his products have lifted the whole industry and become the standard in the high-performance tuner and motorsport world.
There’s a lot more to injectors than you might think, so in this episode, we take a very deep look into the subject, covering how they actually function at a detailed level, what makes a good injector good, duty cycles, how to figure out what size you need for your application, and much more.
Injector characterisation and what that means for tuning is also covered, as is Paul and Injector Dynamics' journey from a small upstart trying to improve what was a very murky part of the industry at the time to the dominating market leader it is today.

This was one of the most informative conversations I’ve ever listened to as an up and coming tuner! Ive been in the automotive industry professionally for ~20 years in service and 30yrs for personal pleasure aftermarket applications. I got into tuning a few years ago and really had to shift my thought process from the standard service/diagnostics mentality of “how things work” to “why things work”. Any information you guys can disseminate on the proverbial “why things work” I know will benefit me and am sure your other viewers/students. Thanks again guys, keep it up.

After quite a bit of school and training then years of real world learning I would never think I knew everything..never but I thought I had a firm grasp on the what's hows and why's of my small niche of the motorsport world until I took a job at the R&D department of a vehicle manufacturer that I wont name here but the large parts of the things they were looking at and adjusting or changing ect was so far past the point of where I would have ever thought of looking at and the information on things just like the subject here just the fuel injectors and the adjustments made on such a small scale that makes a large difference was mindblowing to me... the couple years I spent there was way more informative and valuable to me than the years of school I paid for lol

Had a problem with 13b with 2200cc injectors at around 2krpm i would get a random lean spot i thaught it was the injectors lol now watching this it must have been the pulsation problem this is nuts i literally done what Subaru done hahahahahah😊

Great content as usual! I only wished you guys touched on airflow dynamics of the plenum design and how that changes the ideal injector mounting positions (overhead vs on the side of the runner, etc). It sounds like he has experimental knowledge about what goes on in there and I imagine it is anything but predictable.

We have discussed it but we don't have the bandwidth to do it just yet sorry. Quite a few hours go into each of these behind the scenes, we edit out a lot of ahhs, umms, coughing, background noise that is annoying (where we can) etc. Not sure if you can still hear Paul firing up his 1000 cigars in this one, that might have been harder to deal with 😂 - Taz.

its crazy that KZbin doesnt have features for the viewers to help do that, at least in a safe site-wide way. After people started putting the wrong subtitles in the captions, like deliberately, or just a load of swearing, its easy to see why

That would be awesome if they did Canna! Sometimes people pop them in comments but they don't show as chapters in the video. I do hope sometime next year that we can figure out how to optimise something time-wise so there is room for these too though as I don't expect you guys to have the time to do it either if we're struggling 😅 - Taz.

I taught myself through studying bosch ME7.1 and ME7.5 ecus via FR’s and guides on nefmoto. Every lesson in this interview mirrors what ive learned there from those old bosch documents. Very good stuff. Injector dynamics are the only injectors ill ever run.

Such a good podcast. I'm a year late, but i have a question on the position of the injector. Is there any advantage to pointing the injector against the airflow in the runner instead of pointing at the intake valve? Does Injector Dynamics offer a service to clean, balance, modify, service or improve old and used injectors? Thanks Andre and HPA team 🏆💪

I guess for me, if I were to be asked for an advice to fast track my career on where I am now. I would say, stay in school yes, take a course in college that you think can lead you to a job in motorsports, but also, for the schools itself. Have a course that teaches students about their interest as well since like Andre said, it's always hard to be in school we're you can see the carrot that you are aiming for. Make courses more interesting, invite people who are in the industry who students are aiming to be to let see the end results if they a good job staying in school. Entice students.❤

Another great Podcast from you guys! I save these podcasts up so I can listen to these on long journeys, They are great for learning new theories and applying them to parts of my own build. I have a question about how Injector choice is effected if the engine is running wasted fuel, can there be issues in terms of injector dwell time at high RPM as the injector fires twice?

For sure it is a great platform but it must be said it is only as smart as the person/people setting it up to be used in such ways too. John Reed is just one example of someone who is doing well on that side of things, if you haven't listened to his episode yet you might enjoy it. Like Paul Yaw here, John is a very clever chap: www.hpacademy.com/blog/019-tuning-ryan-tuercks-screaming-v10-podcast/? - Taz.

@@hpa101 you just reminded me on the old motec m2r I didn't know about modes 11,12,13,14 and couldn't find any info onit after blowing several engines I knew it was something to do with timing but couldn't figure out what, my own car, I decided to hire a motec specialist and he explained that it's how the ref and sync are rising or falling i was so pissed, something so simple so every ECU after I go threw every menu lol but now days most ECUs have a nicer user interface ive got a adapteonic on my Evo and a haltech 1500 on rx7 I like the adaptronic how u can tune a cell and lock it that was a really good touch

@@hpa101 well there is a debate wheter you can run the Bosch 1700cc’s in Gasoline cars or not because they’re originally made for CNG Gas but i know a handful of people who drive on them with gasoline or e85 but there’s just discussion that they’re bad and stuff but really there’s no where a test to be found on the web about them
