I am born and raised in West LA ,and I can attest that our Mayor has single handedly destroyed the integrity and character of this city. The sidewalks have been hijacked by criminals and drug addicts. Crime rates are through the roof. The return for our high taxes is poor quality of life. Garcetti needs to go.

Thank you for pointing out drug addiction, it seems it is a front for much of the overall "homelessness". Even trafficking and prostitution. I had to leave the neighborhood I grew up in because all families around me were manufacturing drugs and playing out to be poor immigrants driving tons of luxury cars. Tons of fumes and heavy gross polluters and no help

I grew up in Southern California and it used to be beautiful back then but times change what can I say in my father was literally chased out of his home in a middle-class neighborhood in a town called Bell Gardens just south of Los Angeles and I say chased out because he was burglarized constantly I mean he would go up to the grocery store for a half hour and come back and find his home burglarized yet again people would sit on his front lawn and party and leave all kinds of refuse and they would actually go on the side of his house and go to the bathroom right in front of him and my stepmother so yes they were chased out of Los Angeles by the scum and they wound up in Arizona and I wound up in New Mexico and let me tell you there's a hell of a lot more Elbow Room out here and nobody hassles you

I grew up (until age 10) in nearby Lynwood. It was a wonderful little town where everyone knew everyone. Then criminals moved in from Compton and the city became a sh**hole. That was in the early 70s. Fortunately, after about 10 years, that element mostly moved out and another (more favorable) minority is now the majority. It's so sad that a really nice area (all cities around Lynwood, Huntington Park, etc.) were so nice... but are now slums. Gee... I wonder what happened. Could it be influx of people from certain ethnic groups which caused the demise? We moved to Orange County in 1972 where we still reside. Thank GOD the Orange Curtain is pretty strong... but I don't know for how long.

Yes sir, Your right spot on about that. I see it everywhere and so sorry your parents had to go through that hell man. I'm also packing up and heading to Arizona. I've been there countless times and I see the big difference there and they have a great Governor there and they do care about the Americans which makes it feel like home. Its out of control here and also Venice Beach is getting like skid row too. So sad . Ill move away until they get things better here but until then, I wont wait and dream here wasting my life away on the poor quality of life here. I did sign to get the Governor out of here but it will take a good 4-8 years to get California back to where it was at when it was the Golden State. Great video and detailed info on here bro

I saw the same sad thing happen in the a.v.. it went from a beautiful safe open space to raise a family in the 50s into a dirty gang infested war zone by the early 90s . Unchecked sprawl, corruption and bad planning all played a part in creating the mess that is california. If owens valley and other victims of l. The l.a. water grabs could take back their water so l.a. must exist according to it's own local resources things would be better for the whole state. . A community should grow according to the sustainability and quality of life, given by local production and availability of essential natural resources. We need farms, industry,. and small communities, not open borders, crime , poverty, gridlock and sprawl. We need to get our house in order before we open the doors to unlimited uninvited guests! When our neighborhoods are free from crime, resource scarcity and poverty we will be able to accommodate others wishing to relocate.

I worked in LA for thirty years and left. L A was I repeat a beautiful city with thriving business's, restaurants, hotels, and bars. Tourists came from all over the world to experience LA and the beaches. The government shut down everything and people have to leave. If you lose your job how do you pay for rent and groceries. Yes there were people that were homeless but not the numbers you have now. What is going to bring LA back to its former glory? I do not know because I will be long gone. Thanks for the memories.

L.A. is a 'Tale of Two Cities'. When I grew up there in the 60's-70's, it was 'the best of times', now it's 'the worst of times'! And, reality is, the decay has been happening for decades. The freeway culture of So. Cal. created an 'out of sight, out of mind' attitude as people commuted at 65 MPH, never seeing what was happening on either side ... the decay of suburb after suburb, city neighborhoods falling. No on paid attention to the decaying stucco, the graffiti, bars on windows/store fronts, shopping carts everywhere, trash, deteriorating streets and sidewalks ... all the signs had been there for years. People just chose to ignore it all for their fancy cars, swimming pools, and trying to out-do their neighbors in status, trends, etc.! And, now they wonder why their State, and their cities have become sub-3rd world 'holes'!!!!!

The average home price is 200k but you can find a nice condo in a high rise I've found some 1br condos go for as low as $70k in nice neighborhoods near the lake. The median monthly salary is about the same in both cities. Some rents as low as $700 if you look. I've found a couple nice apartments in nice urban neighborhoods on the North Side for that low

That neighborhood is very diverse, alot of hustle and bustle but some projects in that neighborhood make it less safe than all the neighborhoods i just mentioned. If you want more quiet and suburban life, the far Northwest Side has those. Large homes with drive ways in quiet tree lined streets. Most homes there go from around $140k-300k. The $70k condos are usually found closer to the lake around the Edgewater area (far north side). It's a busy area, street parking is usually hard to find. Some buildings have their own parking garage but that would depend on the building. Areas you should absolutely avoid, in the West Side, Austin, Garfield Park. In the South Side, Englewood, Auburn Gresham, and Grand Crossing. 99 percent of violence you read about in Chicago comes from those 5 neighborhoods

@Phil Agcaoili painting the whole city of Chicago with the brush of shooting numbers is not accurate. It's like me saying that all of California is tent cities, poop on the ground, and bad air quality. Is there truth to it being a problem that needs to be solved? YES.... but is it everywhere in Chicago? No. I'm not trying to downplay the violent crime on the south and west side of the city because it is a crisis and needs to be fixed, but know that the city of Chicago is enormous and that violent crime is often concentrated in a few communities. Chicago is unfortunately an extremely segregated city by race and income, none of the neighborhoods he mentioned have violent crime issues any worse than any other city.

Our state attracts THE most dysfunctional people from all over the world, and there is no infrastructure or containment of it. So those who can still walk off....they will. And the most burdensome people are the only ones who stay. And our state and local gov't, decades in their offices, are privileged people who don't have to deal with it, whatsoever. And clearly, don't want to. While looking for their next promotion to another office, they aren't worth what they get paid NOW! Thanks again. And you had me at dimples!

The question that many people have is why did the local authorities allow homeless people to set up tents all over the city including along the boardwalks and paths next to the beaches. I fully support providing resources to homeless people. However, tourism is a major economic driver. LA and the surrounding regions appear to have thrown in the towel completely. The tourism and business revenue is needed to help address the homeless related challenges. All I can see right now is a death spiral. Comments?
