That's pretty clever... thank you for sharing. I've had some luck stacking cloth medical tape, but it melts if it gets too hot outside. This is really good information, certainly a new perspective for myself.

Jan, are you just using the tape to set your spaces between the buttons and then to keep the glue off the exposed space between the knots?

Yes, the different widths of tape just make it easy to get the spacing right

The buttons I use most on reins is a 5 bight bomba zurda with a gaucho weave or a 6 bight turkshead with a cowboy interweave.
