What is rawhide? How is it different than leather? Dying and tying knots with rawhide lace

I have been wanting to put a rawhide wrap on this ax handle for a while, and thought it might be a good idea to make a video about the differences between rawhide and leather.

Thanks for the tutorial makes me think i can do it. 😎 Does this work on natural rawhide without being bleached 1st and does this soften the rawhide after drying. Thanks again for sharing knowledge and experience.

Just bending the rawhide back and forth while tying the knot does soften it some. It should work just fine with natural rawhide, but will have a different appearance than the bleached.

@@bransonsgeneralstore For best results do you recommend the hide bleached 1st even when going for browns, dark reds, or black..or bleach 1st only when going for lighter colors? Thank you for your response.

@@TheAbsoluteLastRevolutionary In my experience the bleached rawhide will be more opaque,. The natural rawhide will often still be kind of translucent when dyed. I have not dyed natural rawhide very much it is possible that some dyes will work differently.
