the belt I provide is a 360XL037 This means 36" loop circumference, XL pitch, .37" width. So if you want a 25" belt, your number would be 250XL037. Rather than going with a smaller belt, I recommend using the idler pulley to pull a tighter loop around the pinion gear.

Hi John, nice job! I recently bought a "Colored Peas" brand CLSP with the grooved wheel. I think that your kit won't fit that model, because I assume the groove is sub-diameter compared to a standard, un-grooved, wheel. Do you have a kit for the grooved wheel? Maybe just an idler pulley and drive pulley for the servo motor that uses a flat belt?

With the grooved wheel, I think you will be able to get it going on your own without my parts. The servos come with a grooved pulley, so you would just find a belt that fits both. The only problem I see is if you want ultra-slow rotation, my kit is better because it makes the servo gear MUCH smaller in relation to the larger crank wheel, so turns ratio makes mine run much slower for fine work. I had one customer use my kit on a grooved wheel, but I don't know how they did it.

Did have question in regards to the white ring you place on wheel....since there a number of CSP producers in China....are the wheels varied in sizes...so do we need to send the diameter measurements?...How does that work?

You are correct. There are a couple of variations of wheel size. We have found that if a customer has a larger wheel, he cuts the larger gear in a "valley" and slips it over the larger wheel, then test fits it with the valley under the belt so the belt will set the proper 0.200" tooth pitch. The gear is then glued in place holding this pitch. The reports back from my customers say this works quite well. Since there are so many teeth engaged, the belt doesn't care about a missing tooth.

I purchased the kit and I am very happy with the quality of the parts. But I have a question my toothed gear is slightly larger than the drive wheel will the silicone take up the space? Or should I cut and fit it?

RTV should be fine. Ensure it is evenly gapped by using slices of paper or card stock or toothpicks. Alternative is to add a layer of tape to the wheel to build up diameter. Shear forces are pretty low on the gear, so you'll be fine.

John, I am trying to repurpose an old Foredom motor for my sewing machine. It has a 5/16 shaft with a flat spot (no keyway). Would you consider printing me a drive pulley to fit that, and if so the cost? I have your kit and am anxious to "git-er done". Also, because of the high speed of the Foredom, I may need to use a speed reducer between the motor and the drive pulley. The speed reducer is shop built and has a 3/8 inch shaft. It would be nice to also have a drive pulley with a 3/8 inch bore. OK, so it looks like I'm trying to cut corners. I am. Thanks in advance...

You should be able to find commercial aluminum pulleys to fit your motor shaft. It might have a slightly larger diameter, so it will run the unit faster, but if you are going to make a reducer anyway, this shouldn't be a problem. Search the web for XL timing pulley. XL is the pitch and the other number normally indicates number of teeth.

Hi John - quick question (I also left you a similar comment on the CLSP FB Page) - can you please help give some guidance / tips on setting / programming the Servo Motor's Parameter ? It looks like on the CS1000 servo motor there are 30 parameters and that some aren't really applicable to the CLSP. If there are certain parameters that are critical and values that you programmed them on yours, it would be greatly appreciated if you could share them / some guidance. If I need to be clearer with what I'm asking, please let me know - sorry if this appears to be a pedantic, newbie question.,

You at least have the manual don't you? I only accessed three settings. P-01 set to 200, but you can go as low as 100. P-02 set to 1000 (seemed right for me). and P-05 was turned on or off to get the rotation right. Can't remember whether it was on or off. Didn't touch any other parameters.

Btw - did you set the Needle Up and Needle Down Stop Position too (I realize you did say you didn't touch the other parameters - I just thought I would ask anyhow)? This is quite the little 3D printing project - I can tell you are an engineer - quite nice work! Now, just how many people do you think have lead bricks laying around in their workshops? I will hunt around for the best way to deal with the foot control - I don't have a lead brick here! :)

@@jonathancabelly5128 The needle positions only work if you have an encoder installed. I did not want this feature because sometimes I want to stop with needle down and foot up to rotate the piece, and at other times I want to stop with needle up to remove the piece.

@@JohnHansknecht - Hi John - Any possibility of me being able to order a new 16tooth drive pulley that goes on the Servo Motor - just the little driver pulley. I did something silly and took a chunk out of the edge of part of the pulley wheel when I put it on the motor (I did something stupid). I've got it fixed up with a little J-B Weld, so it still works, but would be nice to get one that isn't broken. I can venmo or paypal you (I can DM you in Facebook with my address, etc.).

@@JohnHansknecht hey John, VERY interested in this. If you are always having to wait on more idler pulley bearings, can't you just adjust the design so that the motor is inline with the main wheel? Granted it would extend out a bit and not be as compact, but in a pinch you could supply the solution to more and offer the bearing idler pulley setup as a future purchase. Just a thought. Any way, great idea and use of 3D printer. If you could give me an ETA on this, I would greatly appreciate it.
